First off wanted to say thanks for this awesome site/forum. I am currently smoking apparently what is called "analog cigs" I think is what they are called. About a pack and a half a day. Normal Marlboro light 100s. It looks like this is the site to be on and learn from as it relates to doing my research on switching to e-cigs and or vaping.

my wife just told me the other day she bought me some type of ecig thing from a website ecigignite or something like that for dirt ... cheap. like $5 buck or something. then freaked me out by saying she got scammed into auto payments for refills or something.

Now im looking at the joy 510 starter kit. Price is decent and gets really good reviews overall from what iv been reading.

I kinda like the idea (as do all noobs im sure) of a standard cig kinda like the joy 510 rather than holding some type of huge device in my mouth while out in public or wherever. After reading, different styles/designs work better for some rather than others.

I liked the idea about the automatic battery then read more bad stuff than good stuff about them. So I think il probably go with a manual battery im thinking.

Anyways, now I find this website and am learning a lot of information and reviews ect..

I am going to try my best to read before I post but am new to vaping so please bare with me as I am sure I will ask the typical noob question from time to time.

In the meantime, Thanks for all the info on vaping..And sorry for rambling on and on. Im kinda excited to enter the world of vaping and glad to have found this community.

welcome and congrats on choosing to vape instead of smoke.. sorry your wife got scammed with the autopay.. the basic 510 is a great choice for a beginner.. you are right to want a manual batt , as most autos have a really stiff draw, and can be set off by sound vibrations and movements... ask your heart away.. I have found no matter how silly my questions were, people on ecf are willing to answer with open arms and a smile...:)

Greetings and welcome! The 510 is definitely a decent E-cig, very popular and essentially one of the standards in the industry. But I would suggest looking at the Smokeless Image Volt. It has a similar profile to the 510 but apparently produces far better results with their cartomizers, and the price is very similar, especially when you factor in the big starter kit that comes with the personal charging case. It also has better battery life with either the 65mm or 78mm batteries, and you can get them in kits with either both manual, both automatic, or one manual and one automatic battery.

I'm actually considering getting one myself. I already have a 510 and an eGo, and have a Provari on the way, but with all the positive reviews I'm hearing about the Volt, I'm really curious now.

Sorry to hear about the scam though -- it's a real shame those are still around, but it just goes to show that you still can't be too careful with some of these E-cig companies. Hopefully you're able to get that solved and move on to some proper hardware and juices whose spending you can control. :)

Funny, the Volt is what I was just looking/reading about. Im sure I will go threw a few different styles ect..before I find the one that just works for me. Are ejuices interchangeable between manufactures? If I was to by a Volt as an example would I always have to by the ejuice from volt?

When im out of regular cigs I tend to want one even more. So if im out of refills or juice the last thing I want is to wait a week or so go get more. But then again I guess I would just have to make sure I have a good supply on hand.

You can use any juices you want, you don't have to use Smokeless Images' prefilled cartos. Just pop the endcap off and drip any juice down the inside wall, rotating the cartomizer as you go to ensure even distribution. Just make sure the juice you use has more PG than VG, as VG is thicker and won't wick as well.

As for the device itself, the Volt is basically a version of the KR808D-1 type E-cig, so just make sure that any replacement cartomizers you get are compatible with them.

You can use any ejuice on your pv whatever it is. A volt is a great starter kit to begin with. And you can refill them yourself, instead of buying prefilled cartos.

Great that is what I was hoping for. I don't mind having a 10-20ml bottle or 2 with me in my backpack or something just in case im running low or something.

I smoked my last Marlboro Light 100 sitting on my stoop waiting for the postman with my PV. You are in the right place to educate yourself on vaping. There is no right or wrong here, and no question is silly. Welcome to ECF and keep us updated on your progress, I love hearing success stories, it tends to help me in my journey.

I started on a generic (not rebranded like the Volt) KR808D-1 and it worked well for me. It was easy enough to use, I learned to refill the carts in short order, and the battery lasted long enough to not be frustrating. For an e-cig that is similar in size to an analog it's hard to beat. I also thought an automatic would be cool, but found I liked the manual better after time. Once I got my flavor picked out I really started saving money over analogs.

The Volt looks like it has an automatic battery? I like the idea but read that automatic battery's tend to leak, drip, ect.. Is there a Volt with a manual battery? or is the automatic battery on the Volt a well made one?

~SOL

Leakage/drippage is a function of the cartomizer, and it is a possibility if you overfill it. That's why it's suggested you do a "condom fill" from either the bottom or top -- that is, leave the outer silicone cap/cover that they ship with on one end while you fill from the other until liquid starts to drip out the other side. (Note: This is the translucent silicone over cap, not the one that plugs up the fill end of the carto.) When that happens let it drip out until it doesn't drip anymore, rescue the lost juice if desired, and wipe off the end that dripped. Then attach and vape.

The problem with automatic batteries is that they work by a pressure switch that activates the battery when it detects a drop in pressure -- you sucking on the end. in order for the switch to work it needs access to that air flow, and it gets that by a small hole in the end of the battery you attach the cartomizer to. That hole can allow liquid to leak inside and on to the battery, which can cause a short and kill it.

Generally this isn't much of a problem if you're careful about filling your cartos. Just make sure that when you fill you give ample time for the liquid to stop leaking (or just don't overfill -- though that's hard when you can't see how much it's got inside of it to begin with) and then let the carto sit for 10-20 minutes to give the liquid time to wick around to all of the filler over the coil.

If you read through "The Wonderful World of Vaping" in the ECF Library, it'll explain the differences between e-cigs and e-liquids. It'll also help you decide on what type of e-cig you want to use.

Just checked it out. Still reading. From the looks of it il be reading for a while. :) It has already answered some of my questions. and I still have more to read.

Thanks,

~SOL
