Well, with all due respect, the huge ECF supporting member badge and the mood indicator take up more real estate than a few small lines indicating post count, location and/or ECF Veteran status.

I agree, if it were up to me those wouldn't be there either.

The way I reply to a post will be very different when I know, right away, that a person asking a question is a new member from Singapore, my neighbor from California who's been a member for years, or the ECF founder. ;)

What do you do if their location just says BFE, or In my moms basement, or if it's blank?

And as I'm sure you've noticed, most new members (and their title designates them as such) haven't gotten around to putting anything in the location field yet.

I certainly understand the convenience factor, but I just don't think it's a big deal to have to click on the avatar once and awhile to get additional information. I think you'll find that the majority of your posts are directed at folks that you are already familiar with and don't need it anyway.

Stupid answer: Have you tried clicking on Inbox? Next to Alerts...
Then click on the word Conversations. That will show all your conversations. I know, it is probably a stupid answer....

You might have your alerts for new conversations off?

Another thought, is it a conversation or a message? If a message, click on your Name then click on Profile Page, above the box that has all the options but below your name/avatar. You will see any profile messages there.

It's a conversation and it's not in my inbox! It's as if someone sent a pm and then deleted it before opened it. It's nowhere to be found. I sent a new conversation to the member so no big deal but hadn't I got the email notice, I would have never knew there was a message sent to me.

This is none of my business but I believe it's a technical reason. Like already was stated before, post counts, locations, etc are all database queries that load up the traffic. That data is probably scattered across multiple tables and each time one refreshes a page, the server would need to fetch hundreds of pieces of data without need.

It's only a click away anyway :)

Tony

Like I said, probably a stupid answer but had to ask the question. LOL :)

That is bizarre though  Don't know why this might have happened.

I'm no expert, but the ECF Veteran status and location (if provided) shouldn't need to be updated constantly once added to a poster's handle. Post count is a different matter--and I agree it's not necessary and can even be misleading. But knowing that a poster has been a member for at least a year (and where s/he is form) is helpful. And making that ECF supporting member badge a bit smaller or displaying it as a 'stripe' (like the verified member stripe) would help save space.

Just my :2c:

@tchavei do me a favor, can you check if you have that message from an actual computer? I'm wondering if this is a glitch in Tapatalk or not.
Checked on tapatalk and chrome mobile. Both say that conversation doesn't exist.

Going to check on the laptop but I'm pretty sure it won't be there.

I'm not sure either of you meant it all that "seriously/sternly"...

Anyway...the reduced queries makes sense now that you've explained it. So it should be easier on the servers.
I agree with having the vet badge...for whatever that's worth. But I know it may take quite a bit of time to get higher priority stuffis sorted out.

Streamlining and reduced server load and what-not is all well and good to a point.
However, at some point you may begin eliminating the things that make something special.
The sense of community, which is a of priority importance imo, has been diminished.
Seems to be the case to me on the point of location, join and post count info shown.

Just as an FYI....

We think we have discovered a peculiarity of the upgrade.

If you "reply" to a "pre-upgrade" PM, the other party will not get the message.

Classy and I just figured it out the hard way. Dont reply to pre-upgrade PMs, start a NEW "conversation".

Basically the new system will not recognize the old system, in regards to PM's and Conversations. Thanks for the information!!

I miss the convenience of seeing stats at a glance without having to click something, but I DO understand the need to reduce db queries on a huge busy forum like this one.

How about a compromise? The join date should be easily cached (I think?), and would help give an idea how new vs experienced someone is.

Oh, and is there a way to only get Alerts at the top, and not get that popup/overlay thing at the bottom? It seems to always pop up right in my way.

Oh, one more thing... which button do I click to get this new software to say "Hey Beautiful!" when I log in? :)

(I know we're driving you guys crazy... I'd PM you a nice strong drink if I could figure out how)

Thank you for that, Mike!

Kwick kwery... how does one save conversations? Space is getting madly used up here, and I would like to retain some of them. I apologize, but I don't see the option.

Anyone?

TIA, sweeties~

Join date and location would be nice. :) Couldn't it be tied into the username somehow, like the avi is? Dunno...
Some get silly and cute with location, but a lot of the time, I just had to look over there to figure out why they were having such a hard time understanding some of the replies. But I could just as easily get used to clicking on the avi too, so either way...

What is nice, all the conversations that have to do with each other are no longer scattered throughout your inbox. They are all contained in that one 'thread'. To prioritize, you need to create 'indexes'. You can then assign a prefix, that you have named and assigned a color to, attach it to the conversation.

I have mine set up so I have a color associated with all correspondences with other moderators and the prefix states: Moderators. So at a glance, I can tell which are those conversations.

I have assigned a color and the title Keepers for very important stuff. Like phone numbers and addresses of friends. I have also made a file of those offline, but sometimes it is more convenient looking through the few that are 'Keepers'.

Hope this helps!
