I had a negative experience while on a buisness trip in Las Cruces,NM last month.
there was an applebees close to the hotel, so i frequented it regulary to avoid the hassle of worring about drinking and driving.
on my first visit, i asked the bartender if e cigs were allowed in the bar area ( i always ask when visiting a new establishment) and she informed me it was okay.

so i visited there off and on through out a two week period and they got used to seeing me in there with my evic / AGA/t2 mod got lots of questions from fellow patrons and the overall mood was positive.

on my last visit, i had been there a couple of hours enjoying a glass of piniot noir after dinner, when the bartender informed me i was not allowed to use my mod as it was illegal. I asker her if someone had complianed and that the prior week i had asked before and was told it was ok.
she told me yes, the manager had complained.

so i complied without arguement, finished my wine and walked out. yes i was irritated.

so i guess the moral to this story is, always ask, even if you have been given permission before, as different managers, different staff, and facility policies can change overnight.

I think Asking Every Time is a Good thing to Do.

And I think Not Drinking and Driving is an Excellent Thing to Do !

dittozoiDman. Back before the ban on smoking took place all over, I could smoke at one Walmart but not another. It all depends on the Mgr or Asst Mgr on duty. In your case, I imagine that particular bar tender was an ANTZ and put a bug in the Mgr's ear. I saw that happen also at a Denny's in California (smoking though) because one waitress on duty hated smoking and had pull with the Asst Mgr on duty.

Don't be too Quick to Blame the Bartender or Label someone an ANTZ.

Most of the time Employees are just doing what they are Told to do by their Boss. Like it or Not.

oh i don't blame the bartender or the mangr. It was totally on me for assuming (as we all know what assuming stands for LOL) that it would be accepted always from the first okay.

my point was to always ask to avoid this type of situation.

also i would like to apologize for seemingly zeroing in on applebees, i should have said "there was a restaurant/bar close to the hotel" and left it at that.
what can i say, i am a technical person and tend to be too detail oriented at times :)

I personally didn't get the Impression that you had any Ill Will towards the Bartender. It didn't even appear you had any directed towards Anyone.

Just want to post more of an FYI than an Big Rant.

And that is what I found so Refreshing about your Post.

Its just the way it is....at the casino where I play poker they use to allow it at the poker table....no more as people complained... No big deal as I just have to walk a few steps out the poker room to vape....

Asking is always good. I'm actually surprised a big chain said yes in the first place. Most "owned by big corporations" like that have their rules decided by people who never even would consider eating at the establishments they own reacting to what a survey or what they think people would find offensive. In other words clueless spineless suits. There is a good chance that the manager was reacting to that when the okay was revoked. Not saying I agree with it, but I can see the manager's line of thought.

Good on you for asking, it's still the best policy.

What did she mean it is illegal?

Sounds to me like the manager on duty though you were using something illegal and was ignorant enough not to ask you about it. Sadly, if you would have had a slim ecig, I doubt anything would have been said to you. Not many people are familiar with bigger apv's yet. Don't let it discourage you.

Good to see you hairball.

I think your analogy about the Cigarette Look-a-Like is many times true.

Some people suck and like to ruin all the good things. Vaping is harmless and most juices smell great. I personally only vape in public if I am open to educating the many people who want to know what it is I am doing. If I am feeling antisocial or want to be left alone, I dont vape because people are always curious. It depends on my mood.

There's no need to apologize for that. I think most people who read the OP got the impression that you weren't bashing Applebee's, either that specific one or the franchise in general, but rather relaying to us an experience.

And for what it's worth, it's good that you related which specific place it was, because someone here might end up there -- and be forewarned about your experience at that place and know to ask before vaping in that establishment. So thank you for letting us know not just the what but the where.

That's something I've run into, as well -- at least, a variation of that. I think 3 or 4 20somethings now have asked me if my iTaste+Protank combo is a (not going to say specifically what but you get the idea) pipe. They know that Blu/808/510 cig-a-likes are "e-cigs", but they don't connect any given APV with the concept of an "e-cigarette" yet.

Personally: If I want to get my "vape" on in a public area, I keep my big PVs in the trunk away with batts taken out (away from the heat) and bring in a smaller PV like an ego-style. If you want to stealth it, do just that. No reason for other people to actually see the plumes coming out. The important thing for me is to get my nic-fix whenever I want without drawing attention.
