Had our yearly inventory yesterday. Most everyone had left except for those of us doing final reconciling. Our Controller (Brenda) walked in the large office area where we were all hard at it working on this and that... She said, "wow, something smells really good" Somebody, not sure who, I think my pal Melanie said "Oh that's Deb's E-Cig thingy" I'm not the only one vaping, but I'll take the credit lol. Brenda looked at me and asked what it was, It's Raspberry Licorice, I tell her. Another lady chimed in with "It smells just like the Raspberry tea I drink" I'm digging the way this conversation is going, talking with the couple of the other vapers about how long we've been tobacco free. When one guy chimes in with the dreaded "I read those things contain Formaldehyde" UGH !!! I at first said as a joke, "yea, that's the best part" !! All 3 of us vapers that were in the room told him that that article had been completely de-bunked. But unfortunately the NEJM has not printed a follow up to that article admitting how wrong it was to announce such nonsense, of even how if came up with those findings. So now you still have non-vapers believing in that crap. I hope I explained it well to those guys and gals that I work with to alleviate any worrisome thoughts on e-cig and vaping in general.

Thanks for reading, vape safe, stay warm !

Educating others is a great benefit to our needs. I read that NEJM opinion piece and was disappointed. Just as the other side promotes their cause, we have to also.

The vaping advocates don't have the funds like BT and BP. I did see that someone posted on a full size billboard and am grateful.

When talking to another, I try not to be offensive. If planting a seed only in someone's mind, well, it is a step forward.

Good job. It is irritating how often you have to have that conversation...
"Pretty sure mine won't just explode"
"I know exactly what's in my liquid - it's pretty harmless"

Here's a good source - scientific study, with these key findings:

• The e-cigarettes contained and delivered mostly glycerin and/or PG and water.
• Aerosol nicotine content was 85% lower than the cigarette smoke nicotine.
• The levels of HPHCs in aerosol were consistent with the air blanks (<2 μg/puff).
• Mainstream cigarette smoke HPHCs (∼3000 μg/puff) were 1500 times higher than e-cigarette HPHCs.
• No significant contribution of tested HPHC classes was found for the e-cigarettes.

Note - the study was done by researchers employed by a cigarette company.
Yes, the cigarette company owns "Blu" e-cigs, but still...
:)

The main ingredients for the e-cigarettes tested were consistent with disclosed ingredients: glycerin and/or propylene glycol (⩾75%), water (⩽18%), and nicotine (∼2%). Machine-puffing of these products under a standardized intense regime indicated a direct transfer of these ingredients to the aerosol while maintaining an aerosol composition similar to the e-liquid

As expected - what's in the liquid directly becomes what's in the vapor - because we're not BURNING IT.
This is what was wrong with that study a few weeks ago where it appeared they tested "what happens if we totally roast a cheap clearomizer at ridiculous voltage?" and got some bad stuff. Duh - didn't need a test to find out "burnt hits are bad". LOL

I hope you pointed out that formaldehyde is in fact a natural by-product of all human respiration!

Having had the same argument once (and only once) at my work - i made it quite clear that a smoker returning from a cigarette break, hot coffee, the photocopier and the glue used on the carpet all launch more toxins into the air than does the second hand vape i use.

Even i cannot bring myself to drink the coffee at work!

Along side mentioning the debunking of that study I make sure to mention that it's been proven by numerous studies that e-cigs are a safer alternative, that all the necessary testing has already been done, then I mention the fact that they will never hear about those studies in the media, ever. When asked why that is I tell them that I would like to know that answer as well. I like to leave them with that loose end to mull over.
