do the 2 plastic end caps that comes on the cartomizer serve a purpose? should i be capping my ecig when not in use so it doesn't dry out?

Dont really understand. Sorry but for my cartos, when I carry em I put the condems back on and pack em in a little box. Keeps things niced and tidy. Mostly I use carto/tanks, which provide fantastic flavor.
We call them rubber end caps "condoms". They can be used to fill carto, the condom method. The can be replace when carrying filled cartos so they don't leak. And I throw them on top of my clearos so they don't spill in my purse if they should tip over.
Personal preference. I only use the caps when not using them for a good while. Capped will still dry out but slower.

Do you mean those silicone end plugs with a hole in the middle? They're squishy - not like a hard plastic. They do serve a purpose or two. First, if you overfill and flood a carto they help to keep you from sucking in a mouth full of liquid. And to a lesser degree they impact how the air flow feels coming off the carto. But preventing drying out a carto? lol No, I don't think any of us ever put a pv down long enough for that to be a problem in need of a solution. (Seriously, e-liquid doesn't evaporate fast enough that even overnight parking without that cap would be a problem.)
Most of us just replace that silicone cap with a drip tip. Lot's of options there to fancy things up. And they come in all manner of shapes and materials from plastics to steel & aluminum to glass - with all manner of preferences for what feels best on the lips. And they look so much better than that silicone plug thingee.
Edit: Oh, you meant the top and bottom silicone covers that cartos usually come packed with? For storing and carrying exrta filled cartos around. Some people use the larger bottom cover to "condom fill" their cartos. But using one to cap your working carto when not in use? Really not necessary.

As stated above a lot of people use the condoms to fill the cartos and to store them cleanly.

If you go long periods of time between vapping then yes you can do that to help it keep from dissipating however if you are buying bottles of juice you're not losing enough to worry about it imho.

Whew... I'm so glad to find out that the plastic caps are called condoms. I had heard of the condom method for filling but was envisioning something else entirely. Almost did a youtube search to see a demonstration. But there were kids around...
If it's a pre-filled carto I don't worry about capping them (pretty much weened myself off these now), if it's a blank I filled myself I will put the condoms back on before I toss em in my case, I have a tendency to overfill and don't want juice all over. Playing it safe never hurts, so I recommend capping any you plan on putting in your pocket/purse or just in general taking on the go.
When I was using cigalikes, I would use them to cover the end of the spare batteries I carried in my pocket. Protects the threads and keeps out pocket lint.
Yeah, I usually fill 5-6 cartos each evening for the next day. I have a small case especially made for regular cartos that holds 5. I replace the condoms for 2 reasons...1. to keep them fresh...2. so I can tell if they are filled or empty (I leave the condoms off after I have vaped them dry). I never worry about the one in use.
BTW, there was a thread a week or so ago about what to do with all the extra condoms we all had laying around. One of the suggestions had something to do with small rabbits...it went downhill from there.
