I remember my childhood real good and I don't think I had an Aunt Sybil ... but I had an Aunt Myrtle, Aunt Agnes ... all kinds of names you don't hear any more.

TT

Funny, but too true T, I had an Aunt Loraine, Aunt Juanita, and even and Aunt Maude.... times change...and name trends seem to go with them....

At least you used their names! My sister & I are referred to as "the aunts" by the whole family...as if we are 1 person...
I heard my cousins refer to us as "the sisters" and suddenly felt like we were 90 year old maids wearing flowered dresses and orthopedic shoes...(no offense to anyone who IS 90 or who DOES wear orthopedic shoes).

My mom's family is from Kentucky; two of her sisters have very unusual names (Olive and Ora). Those are the two oldest. Fortunately, they started the naming the daughters after that with normal names (Susan, Louise and Annette). My mom (Annette) is the youngest of the siblings. There are also two brothers (Quentin and Randall). Quentin married a woman named Arvona! Isn't that a strange name? Hubby always used to forget her name (no wonder; he was born and raised in Chicago).

My dad had three brothers (all are deceased and died way too young). :( Names are normal; Theodore Russell (my dad), Kenneth, and Rodney.

I would have felt the same way! My niece and nephews call me Aunty Sandy. I'm glad they aren't yet referring to me as one of 'the sisters' ! But, on our last trip to Chicago, my niece (Tatianna) asked me if I needed glasses because I had some lines around my eyes. Yep - started immediately using more eye cream!

Its strange, we laugh at beautiful old names like Olive and Ora and consider names like Tatianna to be perfectly normal.

Times sure do change.
