I posted this somewhere else but I like to get it out to as many people as possible when the weather warms up...

This was written for my husband and myself after our accident on August 27, 2004. A recent thread on dripping while you drive made me think of this, especially since the weather is warming up and more bikers are out on the road. Please, just take an extra second, and one more look before you do something in your car. It just might be my life you save.

I saw you; hug your purse closer in the grocery store line
But you didn’t see me, put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate on Sunday.

I saw you; pull your child closer when we passed each other in the sidewalk
But you didn’t see me, Playing Santa at the local mall

I saw you; change your mind about going into the restaurant
But you didn’t see me, attending meetings to raise money for the
hurricane relief.

I saw you, roll up your window and shake your head as I rode by
But you didn’t see me, driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette
.... out of the car window.

I saw you, frown at me when I smiled at your children
But you didn’t’ see me, when I took time off work to take toys to the
homeless.

I saw you, stare at my long hair
But you didn’t see me, and my friends cut 10” off for Locks of Love.

I saw you; roll your eyes at our leather and gloves
But you didn’t see me, and my brothers donate our old ones to those that
had none.

I saw you; look in fright at my tattoos
But you didn’t see me, cry when my children were born and had their names written over and in my heart.

I saw you, change lanes when rushing off to go somewhere
But you didn’t see me, going home to be with my family.

I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be
But you didn’t see me, when you were changing your CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you, yelling at your kids in the car
But you didn’t’ see me, pat my child’s hand knowing he was safe behind me

I saw you, reading a newspaper or a map as you drove down the road
But you didn’t see me, squeeze my wife’s leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you, race down the road in the rain
But you didn’t see, getting soaked to the skin so my son could have the car for a date.

I saw you; run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time
But you didn’t see me, as I was trying to turn right.

I saw you, cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in
But you didn’t see me, leave the road.

I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to go pass
But you didn’t’ see me, I wasn’t there.

I saw you go home to your family
But you didn’t see me the day you cut me off

I was just a biker…….with friends and family
But you didn’t see me.

Now you went and made me cry. I lost my cousin Tracy four years ago to someone who didn't see her. She was the sweetest person you could ever meet. She was a volunteer aid for her school and church. She left behind a husband and two little boys, a brother and a mom and dad as well as many many others who loved her for the great person she was. They say only the good die young and sometimes it sure seems to be true.

People just don't pay attention to anything while driving nowadays. It pisses me off. August 27th will be 6 years since out wreck. An SUV hit us in the side while were on our Harley. The estimated his speed to be in excess of 70mph in a 30mph zone. Dude was on his phone and not paying attention. I'm still fighting to keep my leg and to walk again. I refuse to give up on it!

My heart goes out to all you that have been hurt or lost someone due to the stupidity of others.

I saw this in your blog and it actually brought a tear to my eye. I'm not a biker. At least not yet. I really want to get an early to mid 2000s Suzuki "naked" SV650 to learn on. Naked, so that when, not if I drop it I won't have body panels to worry about. Then once I'm comfortable get a Honda 600RR or a GSR-X 750.

And I plan on full gear. Or at least jacket, gloves, shoes and helmet.

Jules, do you know who made the video? I am asking becuase at 30 seconds into the video the guy speaking sure looks like a guy that rides with my Uncle. I don't want to post his full name but I don't think that a partial name would hurt, his name is Tom K----.

If you don't know that's cool, I will just have to ask him at the next Posen Potato Festival. The whole bunch comes up and camps out for the weekend.

I agree that most people don't pay attention. It pisses me off when I see texting while driving. To the point that if they stop next to me at a red light, I'll motion to roll the window down and give 'em an earful! Doesn't matter if it's a young person, old lady or a wanna-be 'Gangsta'. I'll probably be shot one day.

And Jules, keep fighting the fight. I've heard so many stories about Dr.s saying people will never walk again, only to see the patient walkin some time later. Keep going. You have our support!

I strongly suggest that you take a defensive riding course also. My hubby has been riding for 40 years and he takes the class every five years.

I have no idea who made the video. There were a couple of people that we think we know that ride in the toy runs and poker runs but we haven't done a group ride in awhile now.

I haven't given up and neither has my doctor. He is rated 5th in the nation and 9th in the world. He works on most of the college football players and lots of the NFL players. He is even hired by the military to go to Germany periodically to teach the orthos there new procedures. I lucked out that day, he was the one on call.

Damn, you did luck out. Wow.

And I plan on taking a MFS. Really, the only thing holding me back from buying a bike is the fact that I need a licensed rider to go to the DPS with me so that I can get my license. Because if you ride it there without a license, they'll give you a ticket. But I have no licensed friends. Or really any friends I'd be comfortable riding with. The only one I know that rides is a bro-dawg squid riding a ridiculously over modified '07 GSX-R750 with nearly 250hp. :unamuse:

I guess I'll be renting a trailer :sneaky:

Jules, you're my hero and you have given me the courage to open up here and not hold everything inside. What a blessing you are to us all! Thank you. :)

Naw, you guys are the blessing. You have no idea how much this group has cheered me up. I feel like I have something to do no instead of just waking up and playing games.

Here they will let you ride the bike to and from the test. It's stupid not to allow it. Not everyone knows someone that can take them for it.

One minute this place has me laughing out loud and the next it has me crying. I never expected to love ECF and the people here, but I do and I'm so glad to be here and to read these posts and feel like I'm getting to know all of you. There are some truly remarkable people here!
