You know you're unimportant when,

8 months after, you find out that your first love passed away. Anybody else had anything like this happen that made you realize that you were unimportant to somebody who was important to you (even if it was from your past)?

Nothing like this has happened to me, but I am so sorry that it happened to you.

I don't think it necessarily indicates how he or she felt about you, only that his or her family was inconsiderate (and perhaps unintentionally so). I'm sorry for your loss.

Well, I wouldn't say they were inconsiderate. There's probably only so many people you can think of, especially at a time like that. Her sister and I are still friends, just not as close as I thought, but I seriously doubt her mother and father would remember me. This was several years ago that we last dated. I tried to reconnect with her when I moved back a year ago, but she didn't seem interested. Was a couple of months before she passed, she may have already been going down that dark road and was protecting me, not sure. Things changed from one moment to the next when we talked. When she wasn't interested, I moved on, had a lot of other stuff going on. Just kinda makes me wonder how things would have been if I'd pursued her a little harder....

Sorry this happened to you but since the relationship was several years ago I do not think it was intentional. Nor do I think it meant you are unimportant.
It just meant you were not in the immediate circle. Which considering the time past and the families grief is understandable.

I do not think your pursuing her harder would have changed things.
