Okay, so I just quit smoking (again).... smoked since I was 18, quit when I was 31... stayed off them until I was 34 and picked it up again.... been smoking for over a year now again. Just quit again with the help of the gum, been going for almost two weeks.

My problem usually comes when extreme stress finds me within the first month of quitting... I'll lose my mind, throw out my progress and go out and buy a pack... then its over and I'm hooked again.

So to combat this... I bought a Yeti kit from Altsmoke. My plan : not to use the e-cig every day, but to turn to it ONLY in times of extreme stress, when I get that uncontrollable urge to buy a pack.

Here's my problem... kit came today, I charged both batteries and decided to try it out, just to see what the hype is all about.

Can you say YUCK !?! First time I tried it, I literally gagged. Disgusting taste. Ever get drunk and light the wrong end of a cigarette ? That's how it tasted to me... BURNT PLASTIC. Like I rolled up a supermarket shopping bag in an ez-wider, lit that sucker up.

The kit comes with 5 filled cartridges for the Yeti... 2 that say 'High', 1 'medium', 1 'low', and 1 that says 'ON', or 'NO', not sure which.

I tried the 'high' cartridge, and that caused me to gag.

So I popped in a piece of gum, left it alone and said maybe that's the 'new e-cig' taste, and maybe it'd wear off on the second hit.

An hour or so later, I tried it again... this time, even worse. I gagged so badly that I coughed up a bunch of dormant phlem and felt like I was going to puke... AWFUL plastic taste once again.

So I decided to try the 'low' cartridge... slightly less harsh, but still a burnt plastic taste. AWFUL.

I was going to try the 'ON' or 'NO' cartridge, but I opened it up out of its baggie and it smelled exactly like the other cartridges... this time the smell brought on a gag reflex. I wasn't even going to bother trying to hit it.

PLEASE TELL ME ITS JUST THE e-liquid THEY SEND OUT, AND THAT ALL E-CIG HITS DON'T TASTE LIKE THIS !!!!

I mean, I see all these comments on boards and sites from former smokers on how these e-cigs have saved people, how they'll never go back to smoking again, and how satisfying it is to hit them. You can't all like the taste of burnt plastic... so what am I doing wrong?

Is there an e-liquid/cartridge combination out there that isn't awful tasting/gag-inducing ?

I thought I did my research... alt smoke seems like a consensus favorite, and the Yeti seems to be recommended as a great starter kit... but good lord did it taste awful.

Please help... please suggest some liquid that doesn't taste like I'm smoking the filtered end of a ..... If this is how they all taste, I think the Yeti is going into a box in the basement, never to be used again.

I'm not looking for something that tastes exactly like a marlboro, just something, ANYTHING, be it banana, or amaretto or what-not, ANYTHING that won't bring on a gag reflex like these god-awful cartridges that were included with my Yeti.

Suggestions please.... please help save e-cigs for me !

Just curious, dont know if you did it or not but did you blow out all the primer fluid in the atomizer when you first received the e-cig?

Honestly i never vaped the prefilled carts that came with mine. I ordered a bottle of eliquid menthol from them and used that to start off with. since i was a menthol smoker and what they normally give you is a tobacco red flavor to start off.

Oh yes, that stuff is nasty chemical plastic taste to it. You probably associated the smell from the carts to the taste of the primer fluid to protect the atty durring shipment.

Blow out the atty from the wide open end into a paper towel and keep wiping it off. then flip it around and blow out the threaded end until it is practically all out. Then pop the cart that you kinda feel comfortable with and let it sit on it vertically so the new juice soaks up into the atomizer for some time a min or two. Might try tapping it vertically to help the juice, do it lightly on a soft surface like a cushion on the couch or something to help the flow of liquid. vape slowly and light hits at first until you get used to it.

Vaping takes a learning curve, sometimes 2-3 days sometimes a week to get it the way you like it.

Also remember that vaping nicotine doesn't hit your system as quick as smoking. Smoking takes less than a min to hit your system where vaping takes longer.. so you want to cut off the craving before the craving might hit. so you aren't destroying lifes trying to get your nic fix :)

Yes, when the atty is too dry it can taste super nasty. Yet, I wonder how wet the carts were. Sometimes you have to wait a min or two for the cart to soak up.

Best addice is to buy liquid, and a drip tip. Just drop in 2 or 3 drops of liquid ino the e-cig(which they say is about a cig), and vape till the taste changes.

I would look around for bulk e-liquid. I seen ttotally wicked was selling 500Ml for 130usd. Which could last someone a year in liquid if they cut it in half.

Greetings Wave!

Couple of things: First, prefilled carts that come in kits are notorious for...well, they're just notorious and many don't even use them. I drip so I haven't touched mine.

Secondly, even if you drip, you should blow out the primer. Here's a note Cignot put in my kit. It's a bit lengthy, but a lot better than not knowing about this, and a reason why Cignot is Top-tier with members:

A Tip to Begin:

The atomizers need breaking in. They are shipped with a primer on them from the manufacturer that has a nasty taste. A good way to get through the break in period is to drop a drop of liquid directly on the metal brdidge that you see when you look down in the atomizer. This not only helps with that nasty initial tast, it gets the wicking material that is located under the bridge wet. It is this wicking material in contact with the metal brdige that creates the vapor. So it needs to be saturated. So screw your atomizer on to the battery, remove the empty protective cartridge and discard. Drip a drop or two directly on the metal bridge then put one of the prefilled cartridges on and vape vape vape, drip another drop and vape vape vape. You will also need to top off the cartridge with a drop or two pretty quickly.

When you drop liquid into the cartridge you will notice it pools at the top. If you take a straightened paper clip and slide it down the side of the cartridge it allows the liquid to flow down. You want the cartridge to look like a slushy. Too much fluid on the bridge will flood the atomizer, so do not drop too much. This method will get your atty up to speed quickly. Good Luck!

I hope this helps!

Hello, In my limited time (Feb 2010), I enjoy Karmel juice from MyVaporStore...It works for me for the tobacco taste in the mornings with my coffee...and is not bad with the price...I was a Marboro Ultra Light person before. Of course, I fill my cart in the morning and also put one-two drops in the atty before using...I use an Ego and it works great for me...Good luck and hopefully you will be enjoying this journey with everyone else on this forum...Take care...

Hit the 510 forum and read. The Yeti is a rebranded 510. If you have some pure grain alchohol (PGA) such as Everclear, use that to clean the primer fluid out of / off off your atomizers and cartridges. I say cartridges too, because when I got my first 510 order, the outside of the cartridges was coated with something -- I don't know if it was the same stuff, but it felt the same, so I wiped them down.

If you don't have any PGA, vodka will do. Soak the atomizers and then blow them out. Some alcohol will remain in the atomizer, but if you drip 3-4 drops of juice right on the wick, you won't notice it much.

As you read here, you'll find lots of recommendations for e-juice. Don't buy large quantities to start with. Even though it costs more in shipping, buy small bottles from a few different places so you get a feel for what you like/dislike, and then buy in 30ml or larger when you find a flavor you want to stick with.

My fave place for juice is FreedomsmokeUSA.

No, primer fluid ? I don't believe the instructions that came inside the yeti box mentioned that at all. So I should remove the cartridge and just blow through the atomizer for awhile?

Thanks for the input, I will give it a shot.

sh_ck,

I had exactly the same experience as you because I didn't know I had to blow the primer out of the atomizer before using it. If you didn't blow the primer out of your atomizer before you tried it, its probably not going to be as simple because the primer is no longer a liquid. What I did to solve the problem is put the atomizer in a small glass with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), bring it to a boil several times in the microwave, let cool in the microwave to avoid flammable vapors, rinse with water and let it dry overnight. The next day one atomizer was perfect and the other was much better. After a little use, they're both fine.

If it tasted like you lit the wrong end of a cigarette, it's not the juice or the cart, it's primer in the atty.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the input everyone, I will keep at it... I tried a few things and managed to make the taste significantly better with one of the atomizers. But the pre-packaged liquid that came with the Yeti is still pretty awful in and of itself.

I may just get a fresh atomizer or two when I go ahead and order some liquid...

What do people suggest as some of their favorites ? I'm open to all flavors/brands except melted plastic !

Strictlyejuice.com supplies their e-juice in 3ml, 10ml, & 30ml bottles. You can get the 3ml bottles for $2.10 each with free shipping on $10 or more (5 bottles).

I created my own sample pack of eight 3ml bottles and threw in a couple packs of their Blue Foam filler. Since the cost was over $10 shipping was free.

This is an easy way to create your own sample pack with the selections of your choice and with as many 3ml bottles as you want.
