Here's a test.. take a tiny bit and burn it an ashtray ( glass) Then see if it burned like paper..ashy, didn't burn at all..ok But if it melts like plastic or has a strong plasticy smell forget it!

If it melted that would mean it would melt to your atty and then you have burning plastic in your lungs and a dead atty.
If it burned like paper or didn't burn at all, wash it in clean water and pat it dry. Cut to fit and try it out.

You are looking for something that holds the liquid, wicks to the atomizer and holds up to a few rinses and refills.
Do a search for refill material, or filling. people here like, teabas, paper towels, hemp and fuval (fishtank filter material).

not sure if this has been gone over but i was wondering if anyone has tryed to use the stuffing that is in a zippo to refill empty carts...obviously it would have to be fresh and clean stuffing plus im not really sure what it is made out of but im guessing cotton and maybe some other materials thrown in

Unless I am mistaken, zippo stuffing has been tried and was found to be too possessive of the liquid i.e., it didn't wick.

The filling that is being used most widely and has been found to be nearly identical, in every way, to the original stuffing is polyester batting which can be purchased at most tailoring / sewing shops.

Shucks. Although very interesting and useful, I thought this thread would be about someone who did something I made a mistake and did.

My first day with vaping I was busy at the computer. I picked up my eCig, stuck it in my mouth, picked up my lighter, a Zippo, and lit the end of the eCig. Or tried to. Durn near ruined the poor thing.

I'm sure many others have done the same thing and if I read far enough back, I'll find a story or two. Maybe then I won't feel so bad.
