Hi All. I'm having issues for the last week with my Smok Zmax. It's a Ver. 2 I think, has the blue screen and the grooves on the battery tube.

I Am getting low ohm readings when the tank is screwed all the way on. I have used coils of 1.5, 2.0, 2.4 and 2.8 ohms, 28 to 32 gauge wire. I have checked all the atty's with a multimeter and all the coils are good. Using cotton for wicks. Smok Trophy tank, Smok pbc V2 Tank and several Vivi Novas all have the same issues. All tanks work fine on my wife's Smok eGo style vv batteries.

If I start to unscrew the tank, I get readings of 0.1, 0.4, 0.2, LoR,1.1, 0.8, basically all over the place. Once I get the tank to the point where it wobbles, it will start to fire again, but I worry that it's so loose that the tank may fall off. Same issue with fresh battery and drained batteries.

I Have heard that it is possible to take the top "beauty ring"off and adjust the center pin up, but I cannot get it off no matter how hard I try (pliers, vice grips, nothing seems to work)

I Have read a LOT of threads and cannot find any info on this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as this is my favorite mod by far!

Thanks In advance!

Everything was working fine and normal up until maybe last Sunday. That was when I noticed that I had to loosen the tank to get it to fire. And all my tanks will work, they are just so loose that I don't want to chance something happening to them. I never have tightened a tank all the way down tight tight (in 4 months), always just finger tight then back off just a hair. Its only been dropped once from the couch to the carpeted floor, and that was over a month ago with no ill effects.

MAkes me worry that the Mrs. will never let me buy a really nice mod if something goes wrong with this one!

take the battery out to avoid shorting and use a pin to prize the center pin up. the center pin is right in the middle.

The problem is because of the 510 interface. It's not a problem unique to the zmax.

If I screw down too hard on my sigelei zmax or my vamo, I would get the low ohms indication also.
In practice it does not happen to me because I use adaptors on top and my interface to my tanks is eGo threaded, not 510 threaded; so I am not repeatedly screwing and unscrewing on the 510 threads, but instead on the eGo thread interface.

Well tied it and got the pin raised maybe 1/32 of an inch. Now it wont even show the ohms. Really at my wits end on this one. I'm going to try and take it to the local B&M where I got it and see if there is anything they can do. I doubt it because the glass covering the screen is cracked, which they have known about for 2 months, but still. Guess I'm just SOL on this one! :(

You mean now it shows "9.9" ohms when you put the tank on?
Or do you mean the screen is blank?

The screen reads LoA (Low ohm Resistance?) with all my toppers and even with no topper at all, where I used to get the voltage left in the batteries, my prefered display setting when firing (menu setting 5 I believe).

You mean LoV ?
Sounds like battery voltage is below 3.2 volts .....; means your battery needs recharging ....

Nope its definitely low resistance. I have been testing the battery with a multimeter to double check my charger.
As of last night all I get is low resistance. Can't even get a reading no matter what I try. Guess it's time to take it back to the B&M and see if they can do anything.

I posted this reply in another forum where you asked the same question but did not see you asked here as well and it might help out. I had the same issue with a Vamo and this fix helped me out!

The Vamo has the same issue. As it's used the o-ring under the pin gets worn down and eventually that center pin either doesn't make a good contact with the bottom of your tanks or it seems to short out by touching the sides of the vaporizer.

I do not know if the following steps will help you with your Zmax, so follow then AT YOUR OWN RISK!! I have no clue if its even the same size o-ring.

Good Luck!

It sounds like what's happening is the center pin is high on the zmax and it's no floating. Your attys have silicone bushings with a long post. When you screw them on the center post stops on the pin and Starts to twist enough to push it side ways and short in the atty ground threads. That's why loosening brings it back. I've seen this on my zmax with one carto tank I was using. Get some better/different tanks and you won't have this problem.

Cool, sounds like you're on the right track! If you go to Home Depot or Lowes, they sell various o-rings. The size that works for the vamos is the #60 size washers. I believe I found them in the plumbing section. They also sell packs of them in various sizes. However, I'd think that since the 510 is a universal connector it would be the same size for the Zmax, but dont quote me on that, heh.

What I would do is take the old o-ring with me to the store and compare it, starting with #60 size o-rings. Or get one of the packs that includes the #60 and I'd imagine the other sizes would be in the same size range going a bit smaller & a bit larger.

Hope this helps!

Nope its the one under the firing pin. Just happy I found the issue and got vape mail yesterday! Can take a break from it for a couple days while I build coils and play with the nemesis!

Yes thats the one I am referring to. The rubber gasket, or o-ring, or washer that is under the pin that makes contact with the bottom of your atty, clearo or carto. Here is a pic of the top of a zmax v3 with an arrow pointing to the center pin or the firing pin:

Zmax-CenterPin.JPG

The o-ring I replaced is the one under that pin, and once I did it worked like new, better than new actually since the new o-ring was stronger and prevented my 510 devices from continuing to gradually push the pin in, which they tend to do over time, especially with the Vamo and from I've read here a lot of other APV's as well.

Hope that helps!
