Not a fan of the Mini-14, it tends to get loose with age. Plus, I never forgot how the A-Team never seemed to be able to hit anyone with theirs

As far as the .223 goes vs the 7.62x39, .223 is lighter, hits harder and farther than the 7.62x39. There's also the fact that steel core .223 is THE reason there is class IV body armor. Class III will stop lead core but not the SS109, and M885 or the 7.62x39 specifically labeled AP which are near impossible to find stateside unlike the SS109. Also something to look for is the new M885A1 which uses steel, tungsten, and copper for bullet construction (no lead at all) which is showing improved fragmentation at distance than traditional M855. Which, if the SHTF, should be found readily available on slow moving targets...
