Random DIY mixing and More

Good morning random folks. I'm spending my morning on the deck, with coffee and vape, of course. Today is overcast but no rain in the guess. I have a hummingbird bird that has been checking out the feeder, but afraid to try it, probably because I'm sitting out here. The nectar level is getting low, so I'm sure the hummers are feeding. I have a lot to do these next couple of days because I have a group of 20 missionaries in training coming for dinner tomorrow night. I was going to set up one of the tables on the deck, but since there's a 50% chance of rain tomorrow, it looks like I'll have to squeeze two tables into the dining room. At least I have a dining room, which is more than I can say for my last place.
Good afternoon, Terri.:)

HEADS UP - NEWS - UPDATES! (When we know, you'll know!)

Dear Members,

Last July, CASAA reached out to our members and allies with an urgent plea for funding. We spent the summer and into the fall approaching potential donors, but fell short of our goal. In turn, CASAA continued cutting costs to the point that we were no longer able to support our small staff of two paid employees. Since August of 2024, CASAA is completely run by volunteers. We have secured funding to enable us to continue our legislative advocacy efforts until August of this year. But beyond that, we do not expect enough future support to continue in any meaningful way.

It is with mixed emotions that we are taking this opportunity to announce that 2025 will be CASAA’s last year of active engagements. While we will be ceasing our legislative advocacy at the end of August, our website, CASAA.org, remains a valuable educational resource documenting the history of vaping, explaining tobacco harm reduction, and celebrating the consumer-led revolution in adoption of safer nicotine products. CASAA will use some of our remaining funds to keep the website active, although we anticipate transforming it into a legacy site. This means that information contained on the site will be pared down so that the site will require little maintenance.

Although we have gratefully received feedback from fellow advocates and industry leaders praising our efforts and noting the significance of our role in the consumer-led tobacco harm reduction movement, those accolades are rarely accompanied by financial support. For the better part of a decade, CASAA has articulated this dissonance by saying that it is absolutely appropriate for businesses to devote most or all of their advocacy budget to state and national trade groups.

While industry support has made up a significant portion of our funding, it was never expected that shops and manufacturers would pay for everything. Being supported by our consumer membership has allowed us to remain independent in our policy positions and advocacy messages that support affordable and legal access to safer alternatives to smoking. But that independence is fragile, and we experienced the consequences from bucking the narrative of the largest tobacco companies when we opposed policies that ban sales of unauthorized products -- products that still make up more than 90% of the safer nicotine market.

Since 2009, CASAA has been a tireless voice of and for consumers who switched away from combustion to safer, smoke-free nicotine products. We have done this work on a shoestring, which is a testament to the power of our stories. CASAA has represented our members in city halls, state legislatures, and federal regulatory bodies, as well as shared the consumer view at professional conferences and in the media. We have brought to our work the heart and soul that only comes from genuine grassroots advocacy. Consmers are being recognized as a vital part of the debate over the responsible regulation of less risky tobacco and nicotine products, which is a pillar of CASAA’s mission.

We are not making this announcement from a place of desperation or futility. This is not the end, but merely a step in the evolution of consumers’ awareness, acceptance, and access to safer nicotine products and a healthier future.

Thank you for standing up for tobacco harm reduction!

Sincerely,

Alex Clark, Executive Director, CASAA

Design

The Vaporesso ECO Nano 2 sticks to the compact and minimalist design that made the original Eco Nano such a solid choice. However, there are some nice quality-of-life upgrades here. The most noticeable change is the new battery level indicator on the front, making it much easier to check how much charge you have left at a glance. It still keeps its sleek and pocket-friendly build, which is great for vapers who want something discreet yet reliable.

Pods

One of the standout features of the Eco Nano 2 is its impressive e-liquid capacity. The pod holds a generous 6ml which is significantly more than the standard 2ml most refillable pods offer. That extra capacity means a lot less refilling, making it perfect if you’re used to disposables and want something more convenient.

The device comes pre-installed with a 0.6 ohm mesh pod that delivers a bit more vapor and flavor compared to the original Eco Nano’s 0.8 ohm pod. If you’re after a tighter mouth-to-lung draw, Vaporesso now also offers a 1.2 ohm pod option giving you three resistance levels to choose from to suit your style.

Performance

If flavor is what you're after, this device delivers in a big way. The mesh coil technology inside these pods really brings out the best in your e-liquids, providing rich and accurate flavors with every puff. Whether you're using the 0.6ohm pod for a slightly airier draw or the 1.2ohm for a tight MTL hit, the consistency is outstanding. The draw is smooth and satisfying, making it feel like an effortless transition for people moving away from disposables.

Battery life is solid with the 1000mAh capacity, easily lasting a full day or more depending on usage. The Type-C charging ensures that when you do need to recharge, it’s quick and convenient.

Pros

✔ Large 6ml pod capacity – less frequent refilling
✔ Excellent flavor from the new 0.6ohm mesh pod
✔ Battery indicator on the front – a much-needed improvement
✔ Three pod resistance options (0.6ohm, 0.8ohm, and 1.2ohm)
✔ Compact and lightweight design
✔ Great MTL draw that feels natural and satisfying

Cons

❌ No airflow adjustment – would be nice for more customization
❌ No spare pod in the box – having an extra pod included would’ve been great

Verdict

The Vaporesso ECO Nano 2 is easily one of my favorite pod devices right now. It takes everything that worked in the original and refines it with better visibility on battery life, a new 0.6ohm pod, and a much larger e-liquid capacity. If you’re someone still using disposables and looking for an easy, hassle-free transition to a refillable device, this is a fantastic option. Great flavor, great battery life, and minimal maintenance. Highly recommended!

Another big thanks to Healthcabin for sending me this device to review. I had an absolute blast trying this! Don’t forget to check out their website to see what else they have to offer!

Thanks! Now all I need to know is what you consider room temperature (it's chilly in my neck of the woods).
You're most welcome, Zazie!

We were probably around 70°, give or take a couple.
If you're below 60°, an extra hour or two should do it.
I was getting visible activity (bubbles!) before the bake, so if you see the dough starting to wake up and get happy - it's ready.

Also, my mix time was 6 1/2 minutes using a Bosch Universal mixer (standard bowl).
If using a KitchenAid, probably 4-5 minutes and not too big of a batch - especially if you do use high-gluten flour.
It is rough on machines.

Random DIY mixing and More

This batch was (baker's %),

100% High-Gluten flour (Bova)
61% water
1.5% salt
1% oil
0.58% active dry yeast

72 hour cold ferment
3+ hours room temp before bake

I usually use instant yeast but didn't have any so used a packet of the active, so that's why the percentage there might seem odd.
I typically used to use from 0.25 - 0.5 of the instant.

Bread flour or highest protein content you can find would be okay.
(NOT Vital Wheat Gluten.)

My understanding is using the high-gluten flour helps achieve the crackly/crisp outside and chewy inside result.
Many pizzerias use it for New York style dough.

If you aren't familiar with baker's percentage I could figure out numbers if you need them.
Thanks! Now all I need to know is what you consider room temperature (it's chilly in my neck of the woods).

Geek bar pulse x

I’ll pull it apart tomorrow.
It might be fine. Worth checking though. Some flavors don't have buildup. Most custards and fruits do though. For some reason FW mango is pretty decent that way. Not the best for flavors, but the best I’ve found for fruits. The pomogranites I’ve tried all had heavy buildup. Nicotine itself has some though. Not a lot. Low or no nic unflavored lasts the longest in my experience. I’ve heard of low nic unflavored at low wattage lasting a month or more.

Six days since his post and no replies, I think OP has flown the coop, a flyby.
That or they saw that a lot of people here didn’t vape disposables and had a low opinion of them. I see a lot of vapers who because disposables are “newer” (they’re actually not) they must be “better” because what technology actually moves backwards? THIS ONE. disposables and “salts” didn’t become popular because they were good or safe. THEYRE neither. They were heavily pushed because they're vastly higher profit, and They became popular because they were a better way to play “smokin in the boys room”. To be fair, they still are. If your vape could get confiscated at any time disposables win.
Rebuildables are only better if you’re not going to high school any more.

Ultrasonic vape technology. Why did it disappear?

Hello all. I am really interested in ultrasonic technology in vape systems. Do you know why this technology is no longer available or developed?
Do anybody have a contact for a company that still produces such things? I'd be really grateful for any information! Thanks!
My memory is there were size and power use issues. I didn’t know about the noise one, though it makes some sense. That might all be fixable with advancing technology though. Does solve the heat problem, which is big. For one it changes the base requirements. You can use water as a base for example. With no heat the dry hit and metals things go away. It’s real questionable if they were even ever a real problem and it wasn’t just tobacco companies putting their finger on the science scale, but this shoots the metal shards thing in the face. There may be other stuff. It Also changes the flavoring requirements massively. You could potentially use *any* flavor safely. Possibly not oils. That would have to be tested. There are lots of flavorings that are unstable at vape temperatures. Things would open up.
Vape tech has always had rich enemies though. It may just have been bought and killed. The whole heat thing more or less drives every limitation vaping has.
