These tests below only note my personal opinion for the ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, EVE, Ampace, Sinowatt, Lishen, BAK, or Sanyo can change at any time! This can be one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. Never use them outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C to help lower the risks and extend cell life, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.




Test Results
For up to about 10A/30W this is the best performing, by a little bit, 18650/21700 cell I’ve tested so far. The difference over the Samsung 55E (the second best performer) is small though and may not be noticeable in actual use.

At much above 10A the Samsung 50S2 starts running for noticeably longer along with Molicel P45B/P50B and others.

It has only one current rating in the datasheet, “Maximum Discharge = 16.8A (not for cycle life)”. EVE seems to be saying you can run this cell as high as 16.8A (3C) but that will shorten the life of the cell. I recommend staying below 13A continuous but you can go up to 16.8A if the cell never reaches the 70°C limit and you’re willing to accept a shorter cycle life.

To keep operating very efficiently (less heat and voltage sag) and help extend cycle life my recommendation is to run at an even lower level…10A or lower (pulsed or continuous). Don’t try to turn the EVE 58E into a power cell by running it hard. The current ratings are not a point to aim for, they are absolute maximums to avoid.

Some specs and observations…

• This is not a 5800mAh rated cell, even though it’s called the “58E”.
• It has 5600mAh min/5700mAh typical capacity datasheet ratings.
• The two cells I tested delivered 5699mAh and 5710mAh, great consistency.
• DC internal resistance was 17.2mOhms for both cells. This is extraordinary consistency.
• Standard charge rate is 1.12A and the max is 5.6A. But the datsheet notes that charging at 5.6A will shorten cycle life.
• For charging I recommend 3A max, but only 1A if extending cycle life is a priority.
