After the 3 from last year, GeekVape skips the number considered extremely unlucky in Asia and goes directly to the Aegis Legend 5 Kit. The Kit is composed of the almost homonymous Aegis Legend 5 Box Mod, a dual 18650 battery device with triple protection against shocks, water, and dust. Included is the always-eternal Z Sub-Ohm Tank, which returns to ensure that Geekvape has no intention of discontinuing its Z Series Coils, much loved by vapers. Aegis Legend 5 Kit gifted by Sourcemore without receiving money or having business relationships with them.
Orange plastic sleeve that hides a heavy black cardboard box, branded Geekvape. Inside are the Aegis Legend 5, the Z(eus) Sub Ohm Tank, two Z Coils, a spare pyrex tank, and a USB Type-C cable. The instruction manual is in the orange bag.
Zeus Sub Ohm, despite its approaching fifth birthday, is re-proposed by Geekvape for the launch of the new Aegis 5 series. It can be paired with various boxes, both double battery like the Legend 5 but also single 21700 given the initial base diameter of 23 mm then rising to 26 mm. 42.5 mm in height and 67 grams in weight make it one of the most successful atomizers of this decade, with many manufacturers taking inspiration from its design.
Black plastic 810 drip tip which, having it already, I find myself using on some RTAs too, given its length of 8.5 mm (excluding the base) which makes it suitable even for an RDL draw thanks to the (only) 10 mm hole. The large top cap has the advantage of being screw-on with a bayonet fitting, so it "unscrews" with about half a turn. Generous refill slots.
Zeus Sub Ohm with a dual airflow hole adjustable by an airflow ring positioned under the top cap. There is an end stop to help unscrew the Zeus from the box, and it can be pulled out from the top (be careful to reinsert it by aligning the small tooth of its housing) for a thorough cleaning. Double tank, one installed and one as a spare part, 5.5 ml bubble with an "external" diameter of 28.5 mm, replaceable by unscrewing the base and pulling downwards.
By flipping the Zeus with the base unscrewed, you can see the now historic top airflow system with the two slots that carry air to the coil. The coil housing has two notches to align with the wings on the metal part of the Z Coils to ensure zero leaks. The inside of the base is gold-plated and, in addition to ensuring a seal, allows contact.
For coil extraction, Geekvape re-proposes the key to assist. It's difficult to insert a Z Coil incorrectly, thanks to Geekvape's attention to detail, but this is how much it should protrude and be flush for correct insertion. On the base, engraved in white, are the various Geekvape logos, CE mark, and disposal symbol.
Z Series Coils in mesh do not receive new additions but remain oriented more towards pure DL, with some choices also for RDL (me):
- Z 0.4, 50-60 watts (included)
- Z 0.25, 45-57 watts
- Z 0.2, 70-80 watts
- Z 0.4 XM Coil, 50-60 watts
- Z 0.15 XM Coil, 70-85 watts (included)
- Z 0.15 Coil, 80-90 watts
Geekvape tried to please both worlds by including the softer Z Coil, the 0.4, and one of the more powerful ones, the 0.15 ohm XM. Thanks to the structure of the Zeus. As an RDL vaper stabilized for years on MTL vaping of organic tobaccos, I often return to RDL to alternate liquids; although 50 minimum watts is a lot for me, this time I found good peace using the 0.4 at 45 watts with excellent aromatic results. For the 0.15, let's say I'm no longer young enough, although of the many atomizers I've tried, the vapor still seemed defined despite the heat that inevitably develops at these wattages.
Aegis Legend 5 Geekvape with unchanged specifications on the 3 protections: IP68 for water (up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes), if it falls, the floor gets hurt more, and design to prevent dust infiltration. Dual battery that only supports the 18650 format. Weight increases compared to the 3, at 176 grams without batteries, while dimensions are 91 x 54.5 x 29 - measured personally, so there might be some half-mm error.
Geekvape battery doors are always original, this time with a pattern called Aeroflow Texture and anchored to the Legend 5's body with 4 screws. 510 threading and plated pin to install atomizers different from its Zeus. On the side, the design is unchanged from the 3 series with a rubber cap that prevents water infiltration into the USB Type-C port. The first part of the battery door allows installing atomizers up to 24.5 mm without protruding, while flush with the body, it's possible to install atomizers up to 27 mm. I tried a 30 mm atomizer, and it doesn't look too bad, even if it protrudes.
After the touch sensor lock on the Aegis 3 series, which for many, including myself, did not inspire confidence, Geekvape returns to the switch/lever seen on the 2 series, positioned laterally on the Aegis Legend 5's body. It's much safer, difficult to press accidentally due to friction. Another novelty is the LEDs installed near the front, with various animations available and, fortunately, also the option to turn them off.
In my color, this is how the plate (which feels too heavy to be aluminum to the touch and very similar to the battery door) and the base with the Legend 5 engraving appear. On the sides, the fabric texture is rough to increase grip. Despite the removal of the touch sensor, a vibration motor has been included this time. The historical frame of the Aegis line also remains unchanged.
Geekvape-style base, with a wide surface and, in the center, the button that releases the mechanism holding everything closed. Impossible openings after falls or impacts, given that the profile is rubberized to maintain IP68 protection and thanks to the thickness of the pin used by Geekvape. To access the battery compartment, you must press the button in the indicated direction.
In the compartment, there is a gold-plated pin, similar to that of pods, which allows the door to lift via the spring.
Battery insertion remains unchanged from the Legend series, with exclusive compatibility for the 18650 format. One should be inserted with the positive up, the other down, with the direction indicated on the gold plating inside the battery door that allows contact.
On the front side, the fire button with the upper and lower parts almost flush with the mask. The screen is a color TFT slightly larger than average at 1.08 inches, with the possibility, through settings, to adjust brightness. Plus and minus buttons are also almost flush with the body, and to prevent dust infiltration, they have a slightly wider "clickable" area compared to the Legend 3.
The circuit used on the Legend 5 remains the same as the 3 series, namely the AS Chip 4.0, even though there are more than a few changes in both graphics and how wattage selection works. Power delivery from 5 to 200 watts with 1 watt increment per click.

- Smart: power delivery based on coil reading

- Eco: wattage delivery, but the boost is lower to preserve battery
- Custom: true variable wattage
- Temperature Control: TC with TCR adjustment option
It's possible to lock the resistance in TC when the atomizer is re-screwed, with the Legend 5 asking for confirmation if you want to opt for a new reading. There are no preset profiles for materials but exclusively TCR. Vaping modes are a bit strange, if you select a mode between Eco, Normal, and Smart, they automatically cycle between Eco - Normal - Smart when you increase or decrease watts, where you have a range based on the resistance read. So, 3 modes designed almost exclusively for Zeus coils.
In Custom mode, the instruction booklet explicitly states that it is designed for RTAs, RBAs, RDTAs and you are free to set the watts you want without cycling modes. Fire animation impossible to remove, as is vibration feedback. Finally, Smart Battery Management is not explained in the booklet what it actually serves for.
Protections are the usual ones; the only note, like the Legend 3, it reads coils down to 0.08 without triggering the atom check/short, a useful precaution for pure cloud coils since many boxes only allow using a maximum of 0.10 ohm. Cutoff delivery after 10 seconds of puff, low voltage/low battery kicks in if in standby it's at 3.2V or if during use it reaches 2.8V.
Feeling unchanged for this Legend 5; if you are a fan of the Aegis Geekvape series, it doesn't disappoint with a box that, with a few extra grams, offers protection from shocks, water, and dust, although as a circuit it is slightly more designed for its Zeus, and those who want to use RTAs or other types of atomizers must settle for Custom Mode. The Zeus Sub Ohm, on the other hand, is increasingly becoming a classic, appreciated even in Italy, despite it being well-known that we are a people dedicated to MTL vaping.
