Just found out about a new RDA that's very recently been released. It's called the Turnstone RDA by Early Bird Vapes.


This is a 30mm RDA and to me it overall looks exactly like a more modern, or hopefully more refined, 30mm Valhalla V2. Honeycomb topcap airflow holes that diffuse into a pretty precise looking polycarbonate airflow insert that feeds the bottom-angled airflow channels that directly hit the coils.

I may wait to hear a review or two before grabbing one, but it this turns out to be a more refined 30mm Valhalla V2-style RDA then I'd be very highly interested because lord knows I cant find any Valhalla Mini V2s ANYWHERE in 2026 lol

These tests below only note my personal opinion for the ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not genuine and in the original plastic wrap from a known and trusted manufacturer can change at any time! This can be one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” batteries or ones from smaller manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. Never use them outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C to help lower the risks and extend cell life, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.




Test Results
This cell is a fantastic performer. It’s equal to the top-performing Reliance RS50 (CCC) for energy delivered to 2.8V and performs SLIGHTLY better than the Tenpower 50XG and EVE 50PL (CCC). The difference is small, probably unnoticeable, but test all three in your application if the last tiny bit of performance is critical. All those cells are practically identical at 40A though, so test!

I CANNOT CONFIRM THAT THIS CELL IS THE 5000Q! Convoy Light says it is but I have no information to confirm that with. The datasheet for the 5000Q never mentions the INR21700/50Q that is on the wrap of the cells I tested. I am assuming for now though that these cells are the “INR21700-5000Q” and that we can use that cell’s datasheet.

CAREFULLY TEST THE PERFORMANCE AND TEMPERATURE OF THESE CELLS BEFORE USING THEM AT ANYWHERE NEAR THE CURRENT RATINGS FOR THE 5000Q!

More info and thoughts…

• No CCC*** logo or CE mark on the cells I bought from Convoy Light. Are these pre-production samples?
• These cells do not appear to be full-tab (“tabless”) as there’s no weld mark on the bottom. If true, that is incredible performance for a tabbed cell! I’ll definitely be doing a teardown for my Patreon supporters to check what is going on internally.
• The cells I had reached over their 80°C limit at 50A down to 2.5V by a few degrees-C so I’m rating them at 40A true continuous.
• The datasheet lists a 125A “max discharge current” rating, temperature-limited to 75°C. But there was already a lot of voltage sag at 100A so I am giving it a temp-limited (to 75°C) rating of 100A.
• The datasheet lists a 180A (2sec) “pulse” rating, which will cause the cell to sag very low.
• Like all cells, operating near ratings like these will shorten the life of the cell.
• The two cells I tested had a low DC IR (not AC IR!) of 6.92mOhms and 6.64mOhms, pretty consistent.
• The capacities were 5134mAh and 5153mAh, decent consistency and typical for China-manufactured cells. They both easily exceeded their 5000mAh nominal/typical rating.
• Standard charge is 5A, max is 10A. I recommend staying under 5A to help extend cell life.

• Datasheet weight = 70.0g, +/-2.0g. My heaviest cell was 69.74g.
• Cycle life is listed as >=300 cycles at +5A/-50A to 2.50V or 75°C for a drop to 70% of original capacity.

***China Compulsory Certification, additional testing now required for all cells made or sold in China after August 1, 2024. The logo and certain information must be put on all cells once they are certified. This typically won’t be done by a manufacturer until the cell is ready to go into full production. A manufacturer can apply for an export-only exemption from CCC testing though if the cells will only be sold outside of China (or for engineering/evaluation samples) so lack of a CCC logo cannot guarantee that the cells are pre-production.
