Manvap - Gent 80w kit

Ok today I'm going to do a mod kit which I was sent for the purposes of a review.
we have the 'manvap' Gent 80w mod kit,
*my views are mine alone*
inside the kit itself we had the built-in 2200 mah mod itself
1 tank which comes pre-installed with a 0.3 ohm coil (rating 30w-80w)
two additional coils
1 spare glass tube
user manual
warranty card (which also has a benefit for registering with a 1-year warranty and a box of 5 coils as a reward which is a pretty nice touch.. Least thats what the Warrenty card suggest)
6 x 10 ml 70/30 VG PG e-liquids no nicotine

PACKAGING :
it is a very well presented box it has all your warning labels for example, obviously your made in China, your packaging recycling labels, your CE markings all things like that obviously all the contact information you may require from each representative; European authorised representative; United Kingdom authorised representative, manufacturer information and all this kind of thing, as well as all your social media QR codes.
Inside the box everything is laid out really nicely you have all 6 bottles of liquid as well as the MOD and the tank all fitted in him nice foam cut out
packaging,
the packaging on the actual e-liquid the first thing that comes on is a film wilh tear tape stripped attached to all the bottles, on the bottles is also a production date as well as an expiry you have your clear manufacturing label run the front of it as well as your flavour, however any relevant information on the bottle is in German language .

The tank
The one of the first things I did when I opened up and the tank was I had a little look obviously the coil and the base section of the tank. One of the first things that I come to think about it was as soon as I saw that coil was the Aspire nautilus, at the top of my head I know the Nautilus range doesn't have such a high wattage coil so I decided to ask a friend of mine see what he thought, he seemed to think it was rather similar to the Aspire Atlantis which makes sense because bvc style aswel as wider chamber. And as well as the fact it looks like the Aspire Atlantis tank itself with couple differences. One of these differences being Top Cap with built in 510 drip tip, instead of old style bottomfill tanks this is has its own independent fill port at the top of the tank under the drip tip section which you cannot put your own on. The airflow is really nice to use it's really it's not too loose but it's not overly tight, and it moves freely you don't need to get a big grab on it to force it round.

Ok the Mod...
the mod is different is Tiny it's really compact it kinda reminds me of an old kangertech K Box 40 but obviously this has a 2200 mah built-in battery wire the Old kangers were built in 18650, there may have even been a built in lipo version in subox range, even the chip inside has that classic kangertech texting on it nothing too extravagant no voltage settings just your basic wattage adjustment , ohms reader and your voltage when you're firing as well as a screen flip which makes absolutely no sense when you considered the only way the text is horizontal is when you've got them on its side.
One of the things I find strange with this it's got a perfect cut out for a tank to be sat on it however the tank has provided is so much bigger than the actual cut out it's almost like this mod originally was built for mouth to lung tank because I can imagine an eleaf GS tank sat up of this can't say this Certain because I haven't used GS tank in quite a long while but it looks like it'll be a pretty good fit.

Power.
One of the things have noticed about this mods it doesn't perform the same as a 60 w on this other device I've used various devices at 60 was using the same tank and the same coil being tested on a geekvape AEGiS X, geekvape obelisk 200w, eleaf ikuu i200 & even a Kangertech kBox 200... The Gent seems lot more gentle then the rest.

Battery.
I don't find this battery holding out very long especially at the higher wattage is it desires, especially when you have that power drop aswel

Coil Compatibility.
Even though this looks like an Aspire Atlantis coil I'm not 100% sure I would be using the aspire atlantis coils straight away. However i would probably double check with Manvap to see if the Atlantis coils can truly be used with this tank if you are looking to it and use different variations because perhaps the 0.3 is to of a low coil for you. Or at least find another alternative to run at lower wattage

The juice.
I think having 60ml of juice to try is really good touch it's really thoughtful, it's a really good little marketing technique I mean technically you've got everything you need all the one box.
To be fair but not too bad little juices I'm not going to review each from one by one, but from what you get all-in-one package is fantastic

General thought.
How would I rate this that is a good question... I wouldn't see this device suitable for someone that already into DirectLine vaping the first thing they're going to find this mod is not very powerful even at the wattages it's supposed to be. However if someone is literally just started to get into Direct lung vaping or this might be the first sub-ohm device this is a perfect you have everything you require all-in-one kit you have three coils, you have 6x 10ml 70/30 VG PG 0 nicotine juices. Nicely presented and its not very expensive for what you get..

Thank you Manvap

OXVA VATIV SUPER MOD KIT review by hittman

Hello again and welcome back for my second review ever for OXVA. I hadn’t had much experience with Oxva before doing my first review for them on the Arbiter 2 tank besides the Arbiter Solo I had purchased prior to that. Both tanks performed very well so I was rather excited to find out that I was being sent the Oxva Vativ Super Mod Kit for this review. This is quite the innovative kit in my opinion. The mod will go up to 100 watts and has four modes of operation and is very small for a mod of this capacity. Included in the kit is the Unione PnM Tank as well as the Vativ pod. With the ingenious slide rail system it is quick and easy to change between the pod, tank, or your own 510 threaded tank. What else could you ask for? I’m sure someone will come up with something but I really feel like Oxva has put together a very nice full feature kit. Let’s see what’s in the box and look at some factory images then I’ll give my thoughts on it. And away we go.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

I thought the packaging for the Vativ was rather nice. The picture on the front of the package was not the same as what inside the box. I received the gunmetal version for this review. The red version was pictured on the front. On the back of the box is a blurb about the Vativ, the package contents listing and the company information for Oxva.

upload_2021-12-27_12-37-29.png

upload_2021-12-27_12-37-47.png

Once the package is opened and the user manual is on top and a card with green writing. On one side of the card was a letter. If you collect four cards to make up the Oxva name then you can redeem them for a limited edition Vativ kit. Included in the kit is the Vativ mod, Vativ pod, Unione pod tank with one Unione .15 coil installed, a second Unione .3 coil in a foil pack, a bubble glass for the Unione tank, and an Oxva coil that is used to take apart the tank.

The Vativ mod itself is much smaller than I thought it would be after seeing pictures of it online. In my opinion it is a very sleek looking mod and love the gunmetal version I received. On the front of the mod from front to bottom is the fire button which has a nice gold trim around the edge and is textured for a nice feel while slightly protruding. Below that is the crisp and clear display which my picture doesn’t do justice to and below that are the plus and minus buttons and the USB-C charging port.

The display shows the following information.

- Battery indicator

- Set wattage

- Mode of operation

- Coil resistance

- Output voltage under load

- Length of time of current puff

- Puff counter

- Lock or unlock symbol depending on whether you have the adjustment buttons locked

upload_2021-12-27_12-38-50.png

On one side of the version I received is the Oxva name along with the symbol near the top while the opposite side is just the Oxva symbol while the back is just a metal cover on this one. The metal cover is removed to insert the 18650 battery. The battery polarity is clearly marked inside the mod.

upload_2021-12-27_12-39-53.png

upload_2021-12-27_12-40-14.png

The top of the mod has a 510 connection but it’s no normal 510 connection plate. This in my opinion is very ingenious. In the picture below you can see that there is not only the spring loaded center pin connection but there are also two other contacts near the edge of the top plate. You can either use the Unione tank or any tank with a 510 connection or you can use the built in slide rail system by pulling off the U shaped outer ring and slide the Vativ pod on instead. So it can be used as a standard mod or as a pod mod.

upload_2021-12-27_12-40-53.png

The menu system for the Vativ is fairly easy to navigate.

- Press the fire button five times to turn the mod on or off

- Press the fire button and the – button to clear the puff counter

- Press the fire button three times to switch modes between Power, Smart, Volt, and VPC

- Press the fire button and the + button to change the display color

- Press the + and – buttons to lock the adjustment buttons but the mod will still fire

I don’t usually use VPC modes on mods but thought that the new VPC mode on the Vativ was interesting. The VPC mode gives you five settings that adjust the output in .5 second increments. Instead of actually setting the wattage, this one sets a percentage instead of the set wattage so if you increase or decrease the wattage then you don’t have to go back and change all five settings. The output will still vary depending on the percentages set.

The Vativ kit comes with both the Vativ pod and the Unione pod tank. I chose to run the .3 ohm coil which is rated for 35-40 watts in the Vativ pod while running the .15 ohm coil which is rated 70-80 watts in the Unione tank. I liked both coils and thought they produced very good flavor but could not bring myself to run the .15 coil that high. I found that I liked it at 54 watts with the airflow mostly open.

The pictures below were taken with the 4ml glass that comes pre-installed on the Unione tank but after quickly running through 3-4 tanks of liquid I went ahead and took apart the tank using the Oxva coin the fits the slot in the top of the tank to unscrew it so you can clean or change the glass. The Unione has six magnets on the base of the pod to hold it securely to the base. The fill port on it is recessed into the base but there is a small tab that hangs down to make it easier to remove the plug for filling. Inside the base there are the spring loaded contacts. While using this tank, I had just a slight amount of condensation but no leaking. There are two slotted holes in the base for airflow adjustment. This is done by simply turning the top portion of the tank however there is not a stop on the adjustment. The drip tip is just a standard 510 so you can put your favorite on it but I found the stock tip to be quite comfortable to use so didn’t bother changing it.

upload_2021-12-27_12-41-36.png

upload_2021-12-27_12-41-51.png

SaX24JS.jpg

Now let’s take a look at the Vativ pod. The Vativ pod is tinted but not so dark as to not be able to see the liquid level inside. Once the slide rail piece is removed from the mod, the pod is easily slid onto the Vativ mod. It isn’t a solid locking with a manual release or anything but once it is slid onto the mod, it stays in place very securely. Besides the electrical contacts there are two rollers on the bottom of the pod base to help it when sliding in place.

The 510 tip on the pod is what I call a sleeved tip where it slides over the protruding plastic ring on top of the pod. I guess you could put your own on it but it might look odd depending on the tip. There is however a second tip included in the kit.

The pod has two airflow controls with one on each side that can be rotated individually. Each adjustment has two tabs to make it easier to adjust them. This way you can use just one or both airflow adjustments. I really like this adjustment.

Just like on the Unione tank, the Vativ pod has an additional tab to help with removing the fill plug for filling. The fill port is easy to fill with most plastic bottles but don’t think I would try with a glass dropper.

Just like with the other tank, I felt like the tank and coil combination produced very good flavor and was a nice cool vape at 35 watts.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I really think the Oxva Vativ is a great kit. It really surprises me that it isn’t more expensive than it is with all of the accessories included in the kit. Like I mentioned earlier, it is a fairly small mod and will only allow up to about a 24mm tank without overhang but the Unione tank is 24mm at the base so no worries there. With the mod and pod installed it is small enough to pocket carry in my opinion.

The display on the Vativ mod is very crisp and clear so it is easily viewable. Also it’s a nice perk that you can change the display color. There are just four modes and the menu system is simple to navigate. It’s also nice that the adjustment buttons can be locked and you are still able to fire the mod. Some mods do this and some don’t. Also the slide rail system that makes it quick and easy to change from tank to pod is very ingenious in my opinion. I think Oxva is a real innovator.

I did like both the Vativ pod and the Unione tank. Both produced very good flavor and good amounts of vapor with the included coils. I thought it was interesting that even at 54 watts with the .15 coil that the vapor was still cool. Normally anything over 50 watts seems rather warm to me with most tanks. I found it interesting also that the pod refill port faces the back side of the mod with the pod installed instead of the front. I didn’t love that the Unione tank is a bottom fill. I wish there would have been a way to incorporate a top fill into it.

I would like to thank Oxva and Sam for sending the OXVA Vativ Super Mod Kit for this review. Also a big thank you to the readers that consistently read my reviews. You know who you are. Below is a link to the Oxva website. Have a look around and check out all the really cool devices and tanks that are available from them.

Any opinion would be greatly appreciated

I have a question about vaping. I’m an ex smoker and have been vaping for about 2+ years now. Started with the juul using the 50mg then switched to the 30mg for the past year.

I had a surgery about 9 days ago and decided I wanted to try and lower my nicotine intake to promote a better healing process. I bought a smok novo 3 and a 3mg e juice.

My question is, now over a week into using my lower nic juice, my face is super dry and I’m starting to get a rash on either side of my nose. The pg/vg ratio is the same as the juul and I also am using a tobacco flavored 3mg juice( although it is noticeably sweeter in taste).

Any thoughts on why the new juice could be causing this? Could it just be sensitivity to the new flavor? Anything will help. Thank you.

Your favourite mod/device from 2021

Rules:
There's no rules! It can be a mod, a kit, a pod, an AIO, a billet box style AIO, a pod mod, a starter vape pen, a SideBySide (SBS), a squonk, a mech, or if you are talented - something homemade.

What's your favourite mod or device this year?

For me, it's the Innokin Coolfire z80. I started this year a squonkaholic, and a SBS addict. While that is still the case, I now have four z80s in my daily setups. So this year for me, is all about the z80.

Wrangler recipe? (Vapewild)

Has anyone figured out the DIY recipe for this? I’ve searched the forum and other sites to no avail.

It sounds like VW used FW and TFA in their mixes and I think a mix of TFA red type + FW red cowboy seems close, but it’s not it.

I have purchased nearly every tobacco DIY flavoring (probably close to 60 or 70) trying to identify the source flavor.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What do cell ratings actually tell us? Part 3: Watt-hour (Wh)

In the previous post for this series I discussed the Capacity rating and how it can’t be used to judge the running time of a cell if it’s being discharged at above 1A or so. This is due to the voltage sag in the cell caused by its internal resistance. It forces the voltage lower during the discharge so you hit your low voltage cutoff point sooner.

Capacity doesn’t take the voltage of the cell into account. It doesn’t tell us how efficiently the cell runs or how well it performs when run at above 1A or so.

The Watt-hour (Wh) spec tells us more. It not only says how long the cell can run (hours) at a certain discharge rate (milliamperes), like capacity, but includes the voltage of the cell too. It’s a measure of how much energy is in the cell, not just how much “gas” is in the “gas tank” like what the capacity rating does. The Wh rating tells us how much gas the cell has and how efficiently the cell uses that “gas”

So what is a Wh?

A watt is (voltage * current).
A watt-hour (Wh) is then (voltage * current)-hours, or volt-milliampere-hours.

See something familiar? The Wh spec has the capacity of the cell, the milliampere-hour, spec as part of it. We can say Wh = volt * capacity and this is why the Wh the cell can deliver is so important. It includes how well the cell performs, i.e., how well it can hold up its voltage, for the amount of current and time that the rating indicates.

The Wh rating given to us by the manufacturer or pack assembler is as useless as the Capacity rating though. This is because it’s the “nominal” Wh rating. It doesn’t use the actual voltage of the cell when being discharged. It uses the “nominal voltage” spec of the cell, typically 3.6V or 3.7V for a standard Li-Ion cell.

Like the Capacity spec this is okay if we are discharging the cell at 1A or less. The “nominal voltage” is approximately the average voltage for a cell running at that low a power level. But a cell being run harder than that will not have an average voltage of 3.6V/3.7V, it will be lower due to the voltage sag.

For example…
A Molicel P42A has a nominal voltage rating of 3.6V and a capacity rating of 4000mAh. Its nominal Wh rating is then nominal voltage * capacity = 3.6V * 4000mAh = 14,400 milliwatt-hours, or 14.4Wh.

But when discharged at 20A the cell only delivers about 10.7Wh and at 30A it delivers only about 8.7Wh. This is because of the voltage sag. The average voltage is lower and that lowers the Wh number.

The capacity a cell delivers at current levels higher than about 1A is also lower due to the voltage sag. This also lowers the Wh rating since both the average voltage and actual delivered capacity are part of it.

The Wh rating that can be so useful for us is the one that is measured at the power level we will run our cells at. If we run our cells at, lets say, 10A then we need to measure the average voltage and actual delivered capacity of the cell when being discharged at 10A.

Unfortunately this is very difficult to do unless you have certain test equipment. I’ve measured the delivered Wh for many of the cells we use though and these numbers are what I use for my Energy Scores (E-Scores). Check these tables for the E-Scores of some cells I have tested:

18650: 18650 Battery Ratings Table | E-Cigarette Forum

20700/21700: 20700/21700 Battery Ratings | E-Cigarette Forum

This delivered Wh rating allows us to directly compare any number of cells without any concern for capacity, size, voltage, chemistry. None of those numbers matter because this Wh rating basically already takes all that into account.

A cell that delivers 10Wh at 10A will outperform any other size or chemistry cell that delivers less than 10Wh at 10A…when run at 10A.

We still want to stay under the cell’s continuous current rating though, and we still need to consider the charging voltage and how well the cell(s) fit, but how well each performs can be determined by just comparing the Wh of energy the cell delivered at the current/power level we’re interested in.

Not all cells that are best at one power level will be best at all power levels! An ultra-high capacity “energy” cell will be easily outperformed by a high-performance “power” cell at high power levels. But at low power levels the higher capacity of the “energy” cell means it will run for longer.

You would see this in the Wh numbers for the different power levels. The energy cell would have a higher Wh rating at low power levels and the power cell would have a higher Wh rating at high power levels.

Many battery packs have a Wh rating but that is the “nominal” rating. It is almost useless to determine how long the pack will run or how well it will perform if you are running at moderate to higher power levels. You can certainly use it to compare pack size though and, very roughly, how well it might perform if not being run hard.

So while the Wh spec given by the manufacturer and pack assemblers can be used to size a pack, or work out what cells might be in the pack, the Wh rating shouldn’t be used to determine performance unless it’s measured at the power level you will run at.

Then you can directly compare those cells and along with weight, size, and cost, determine which cells best fit your application. Use the tables I link to above to compare some of the cells I have tested.

UNWRAPPING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The devices are housed in a sealed plastic tube with a rubber end cap top & bottom, ingredients, specification and flavor inside the device in printed on a plastic wrap covering the tube, The plastic wrapping can be removed and the container tube that the came in can be reused for storing other vape gear such as coils or whatever fits inside. the 3 flavors I received are Apple Pie, Peach Ice and Watermelon.

Empty tube in the center, use it for storage of something ( coils, cotton, etc. ) Get creative!

Before using the device a small protective sicker saying PEEL covering the airflow inlet must be removed, there are no buttons as the device is auto-draw only that is a semi-loose draw, more tight than loose.

The other end of the device Is the mouthpiece that has a bullet shape to it, and also has protection of accidental vape that has to be removed, a small clear rubber plug is inserted into the mouthpiece opening and needs to be removed by just pulling out.

The auto-draw works very well and is a semi-loose one, The Friobar 500 fires pretty quick with no delay, flavor comes through immediately and gets better with each vape until the 3th or 4th vape as it starts to mute.

Letting the device sit idle for a minute or so after it comes right back.

I didn't think the mouthpiece would be a good performer although the bullet shape looks good, but it is comfortable with the right sized bore diameter. The bottom must be unobstructed because of the airflow inlet.

The Bottom also has a Red LED that lights up when you vape but goes out very quickly after you stop the vape, when the device is either out of juice or the battery is depleted the Red light begins to flash letting you know it's time to discard it.

FLAVORS SENT TO ME

APPLE PIE

The Apple Pie flavor that comes through is of a candy apple rather than a real Apple and although not mentioned in the description or printed on the packaging this really a Apple Ice flavor.

On the first draw you get a light candied Apple and menthol taste, the 2nd quick vape some pie crust comes through and the menthol ice begins to ramp up more, on your 3rd vape it hit's the peek of flavor and flavor begins to mute. I recommend only 3 vapes then let the device sit idle for a minute or so and the flavor will rebound for another session of vapes.

PEACH ICE

The Peach Ice flavor does actually taste like a Peach with very little Ice flavor although not as sweet and powerful as I thought it would be. The light flavor of this one is actually better than the Apple Pie in my opinion.

The same intensity drop happens as it does with the Apple Pie after the 3rd vape and rebounds back with flavor after paused for 1 minute or 2.

WATERMELON

Out of the 3 flavors the Watermelon has the most flavor to it, even unwrapping the package you could smell the Watermelon coming through. This also has a Ice flavoring blended in as all 3 of these do.

Watermelon is not a flavor that I gravitate to normally but this one is the best out of the trio of flavors that I tested. The Watermelon flavor is very good and it's probably because it has smaller amounts of Ice than the others.

With the Watermelon it's threshold is 5 vapes before starting to loose flavor and just like the Apple Pie and Peach Ice after some Idle time the flavor pops right back.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I really liked the Watermelon because it had a taste of real Watermelon and not a candied one, however the Ice although being refreshing to some didn't go well for my taste buds but I don't care for a menthol or Ice vape.

All 3 have Ice included in the flavoring but only the Peach states that on it's label. Being a salt vape 3 vapes should do you for a quick Nic hit so waiting a minute or so for the flavor to return is not to bad I guess.

I would like to thank Tina and Freemax for providing the 3 Friobar 500 disposable vape devices for the purpose of this review.

THANK YOU
