Uwell Havok V1 Pod Mod Kit Review by Z-Lee

Hello and welcome to another addition of This Old House. My name is Bob Vi-
Oop, wrong review.

Today we're going to be taking a quick peek at the Havok V1 Pod Mod Kit by Uwell. I'm going to keep this review fairly simplistic because I honestly think that's the best trait of this kit. I received this item as a giveaway but will remain unbias in this review simply because I am receiving no benefit from the result of this write-up. I also abhor misinformation and will reflect any negatives accordingly in this review and in any future reviews down the road.

I borrowed these pictures from SourceMore, as they were the ones that held the giveaway. You can find the link to this item here: Uwell Havok V1 Kit 65W 1800mAh Pod Mod Kit. Without being logged in, the price is $45.89. After logging in, the price is currently sitting at $25.22 without any codes or coupons. Remember to log in every time you revisit SourceMore.

I want to thank @Ema over at SourceMore for making the reception of this unit painless.

I present to you, flip-book review mode:
Uwell_Havok_V1_Pod_Mod_Kit_Colors.jpg

5 different colorways to choose from - I received the blue and it's accurately depicted with what you see here.

Uwell_Havok_V1_Kit_Package.jpg

Also comes with a few other items that you are likely to ignore. Good FYI stuff if you are having trouble understanding how to operate the mod, but with this cutiepie, I don't think you're going to need the instruction manual.

Uwell_Havok_V1_Kit_Specification.jpg

Basic specs for this kit.

Uwell_Havok_V1_Kit_Overview.jpg

An exploded view to better see how simple the Havok is.

20210708_141604.jpg

The pod holds 4 mL of juice. The cap slides open and the grommet membrane helps keep juice from bubbling back out when refilling.

Uwell_Havok_V1_Kit_Replaceable_Coil.jpg

20210708_141444.jpg

Very basic drop-in coil. The 0.25 ohm mesh coil came pre-installed. It's currently sitting at 0.23 ohms and that's pretty normal to have a little bit of variance. Also be sure to take the plastic sticker off that's protecting the connectivity of the coil before use.

20210708_141248.jpg

I'm not sure why their picture of the USB-C port looks like a portal to another dimension, but I took another picture to get a better idea of what it looks like. As @bigbob2322 had mentioned in his review of this same pod kit, there is no USB-C charger that comes in the package. In today's age, I don't see that being a huge issue as most people will more than likely have a USB-C charger if they've purchased an electronic in the past 5 years. It would however be nice to see that this is clarified in the description of what comes in the box, much like the exclusion of batteries in a kit that requires external batteries.
upload_2021-7-12_17-57-35.png

A charging cord wouldn't make or break the sale of a product for me unless it was one that I didn't have. Please let us know what we are or aren't getting in the package.

Uwell_Havok_V1_Kit_No_leaking.jpg

This is true for the week that I've had it. I've had the airflow control wide open since I started vaping it, and have laid the pod on its side and even with the vent facing down overnight to see if there would be any leaks. None. Also, pod kits have been known to leak on the underside of the pod where the coil is seated, leading to juice ending up around the connecting pins between the mod and the pod. I don't see a hint of moisture there, so that's really good news.

20210708_141537.jpg
20210708_141551.jpg

Above, you can see the airflow control. The slider positioned down is fully open (very loose RDL but not quite a vacuum hose), and positioned up would be fully closed (Restricted MTL but not tight like trying to suck a golfball through a garden hose).

20210708_141324.jpg

Inserted back into the mod, it looks like the airflow could be restricted a bit, but it's definitely a loose RDL/DL vape fully open.

Uwell_Havok_V1_Kit_Pro-FOCS.jpg

I've not done a lot of research on what exactly Pro-Focs is, but it's my understanding that this is essentially quality assurance to make sure the vape is producing the intended flavor. In this case, it's working very well because I can't say I have another tank or RBA that's configured for RDL or DL sitting at 30w and pumping this kind of flavor out.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (spoiler: there isn't an ugly)

Pros:

-Compact
  • The size is about that of the a Freemax Maxus mod. Slightly smaller than a VooPoo Drag Mini or Argus GT. It's also quite thin.
-Lightweight
  • The next closest mod/kit that has an internal battery is the Smok Thallo, and it's still lighter than that.
-No leakage (so far)
  • As mentioned above, I sat the pod mod on its side and on the vent opening before going to bed a few nights to see if I could get this to leak. No leaking. Having only had this pod for a week, I can not say whether it will leak down by the connector pins like many other pod mods do over time, but for now - it's squeaky clean down there.
-Texture feels nice
  • The machining is nice and smooth and the finish looks nice.
  • The fire button has a slight "click" when you depress it which is nice in my opinion. Other fire buttons that feel kind of mushy when you press them in, you can never really tell when it's "in". (Let's hope that's not what she said)
-Extremely simple to use
  • There's no menu. You quick press the fire button 5 times to turn it on and set the wattage. Voila. The UI displays battery life, wattage, volts, ohms, puff timer, and a puff counter.
-Long battery life
  • The integrated 1800 mAh battery was something I was worried about at first. The Smok Thallo I have has a 3000 mAh internal battery and I could easily burn that up before the end of the day. At 30 watts, and what I would guess to be an average of 4 second puffs, I reached 186 puffs before the battery cut out. I used up about 5mL of juice in total.
-Coil longevity
  • Several reviews support the extended life expectancy of these coils. Also it's mesh! I honestly feel like mesh has spoiled me.
-Efficient
  • Size vs. Weight vs. Run time vs. Coil longevity reputation vs. juice consumption vs. flavor - I'm going to rate this an 8/10. The flavor isn't going to blow your socks off (if it does, you need to let go of the power line), but it's good. If you want something quick and easy to tote around with you, this is a great go-to.

Cons:
-Internal battery
  • Not a huge con really - replaceable batteries are nice to be able to switch on the fly, but it would increase the size of the mod portion so there would be a trade-off. For the low wattage, this battery works perfectly well.
-Refilling isn't the easiest to access
  • A 120mL gorilla bottle juuuuust reaches far enough inside the refill membrane w/out causing a mess, but you have to kind of cram it in there.
-USB-C charging port on the bottom
  • I would hit this pretty hard if the pod mod itself was a leaky unit, but since it hasn't leaked having been left on several of its sides overnight, I wouldn't say this is a huge con - just unorthodox.
-No USB-C charging cable
  • As mentioned in the review, not a make or break for your general techie crowd, but for someone maybe a bit older that's just getting into vaping - not having a charging cable could be a bit frustrating.
  • I realize mentioning that a product doesn't come with something can be seen as a negative to potentially discourage a purchase, but I think not mentioning what doesn't come with a product will leave a purchaser much more dissatisfied for future purchases. Again, please let us know what does and doesn't come in a package (esp. if it's a common thing).
-Aluminum alloy body
  • The material is extremely lightweight which is nice, but the machining isn't very rounded on the bottom. It isn't "sharp" per se, but I would suggest not sliding this pod mod across any wooden (or any type of) surface that you would be concerned about scratching. I have a few small scrapes in my wooden desk from sliding this pod out of the way which doesn't really phase me as my desk is old, but just an FYI.
-Gurgling
  • On rare occasions, I get a slight gurgling sound (it never spits) when drawing. It's sporadic and seems to clear up quite quickly however.
-Visual appeal
  • I wouldn't say it's pretty by any means, but it gets the job done well.

Final Thoughts
As I mentioned in the intro, the Havok V1 Pod Mod Kit is extremely simple to use. However, that isn't to say that it lacks in performance at all for what it is. I have yet to fully expend the first coil, but from reviews and what other people have said, the UN-2 Mesh coils can hold their own in terms of longevity. Their flavor production when taking into consideration the wattage and juice usage for an RDL/DL is very much impressive. Don't expect to be packing huge clouds with this though.

I'm not going to say that it can directly compete with a Freemax Fireluke 3 or GeekVape Z Sub-ohm tank simply because they're apples to oranges. Those tanks don't have a rechargeable battery attached to them and they're not conservative on juice usage whatsoever. They also take up twice the amount of power (on the conservative side) to operate at their recommended wattages. Taking several things into account, you get great bang for your buck with the Havok.

Other pod mods that I have that I can compare the Havok V1 to @30w:
-OXVA Velocity (the best pod mod I have) @40w
  • Not as good, but also not paying 2-3x the price. Lighter.
-Smok Thallo @40w
  • Slightly better flavor, less clouds - also consumes less juice and runs longer. Lighter.
-GeekVape Aegis Boost Pro @42.5w
  • Same as the Thallo, probably equal in flavor, less clouds. Longer run time. Lighter.
-Smok RPM160 @55w
  • Much smaller, hardly comparable. Slightly less flavor and much less clouds, but doesn't leak like the 160. Lighter.
-Smok RPM2S @40w
  • Slightly less flavor and clouds, longer run time. Also doesn't leak like the RPM2. Lighter.
-Lost Vape Ursa Quest @55w
  • Similar flavor quality, not near the clouds. Ursa Quest probably weighs 3x as much - it's also bigger and more clunky.

I think for a ninja vape, this would work quite well.

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Kit 80W with Zenith II - Review

Hi ECF members, In this review i take a look at the Coolfire Z80 Kit 80W with Zenith II from Innokin. The Coolfire Z80 Kit 80W with Zenith II was supplied for the purpose of this review by Monica from Innokin.

CoolFire Z80 Zenith II - Vape Kit | INNOKIN®

Introduction

Innokin are one of the old guard when it comes to vaping manufacturers yet they have not only stayed relevant but are also leading the way in innovation. The Coolfire Z80 incorporates the same innovative new technology that was introduced with the Sensis Pod Mod which both improves flavour but also coil longevity by using a coil refresh feature and new F0 technology which uses AC Current! After using both the Sensis and the Coolfire Z80 i am very impressed and can see F0 Mode and the Refresh feature being Innokin's standard technology in the future!

With this kit the Coolfire Z80 is paired up with the latest version of their flagship Zenith tank which keeps the much loved MTL capabilities and quick top-fill system while also including an airflow slot to cater for the RDL vaping style while having a Zlide cosmetic makeover, let's crack on and have a closer look!

In The Box

Contents:

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Mod
Zenith II tank
0.8ohm MTL coil (installed)
Z 0.3ohm RDL coil
Spare RDL drip tip
O-rings
Type C USB cable
User manual

___________________________________________________________________

Aesthetics

The kit comes in recycled cardboard packaging with the mod and tank on show in their separate compartments and all accessories in the lower layer! I received the Cloudy Grey version which has a Gunmetal frame and cushioned Suede spine and Gunmetal Zenith II tank, the options are Leather Black, Ash Grey, Leather White and Cloudy Grey.

In this section i will concentrate on the mod which has a curved spine with either soft Leather or cushioned Suede finishes which flattens out towards the front of the device. Between the spine and main frame sections we have a bracket either side, on one bracket we have "INNOKIN" carved and on the other "COOLFIRE Z80".

Moving to the face which is darkly tinted we have a nicely machined round protruding fire button with Copper edging which is only a small detail but one i like a lot! Below we have the screen followed by two small round protruding navigational buttons lined up vertically followed by the Type C USB connection port!

moving up top we have a slightly raised 510 plate with Gold plated, spring loaded 510. At the base of the device we find a battery plate with fold out lever and venting holes! The Coolfire Z80 is light but not in a cheap way as it's build quality is excellent, it's also compact making it a lovely device to use when out and about as well as at home.

The Zenith II Overview

The Zenith II is part of Phil Busardo's Platform Series and latest version of the flagship MTL tank, the latest rendition also allows for a very good RDL vape so you can make use of all the available Z coils including the Plexus 3D coil heads!

Aesthetically the Zenith II looks more like the Zlide than original Zenith but has the Zenith's much loved top fill system which just means turning the top to the open padlock position to reveal the open fill port which on mine being the TPD version has a self sealing membrane, the Zenith II has either a 5.5ml capacity or 2ml with the TPD version.

The tank is 25mm in diameter at it's base and 26mm in diameter at it's widest points, we have large e-liquid viewing windows and the top can be removed to allow a new glass to be fitted if necessary. The tank comes pre-installed with a 510 MTL drip tip but also included is a RDL 510 drip tip, to be honest neither suit me but the beauty of it having a standard 510 fitting means any 510 drip tip will fit!

The airflow control ring has a series of 3 small holes followed by an airflow slot, this can give anything from a tight MTL right up to a very satisfactory RDL draw!

The base of the tank houses the airflow control and the 510 threading itself is attached to the base of the coil and feeds through the central hole of the base. Like with the original Zenith the coils just get press fitted into place making swapping coils very quick.

You receive the pre-installed 0.8ohm MTL coil head and also the outstanding 0.3ohm coil head but many others are compatible, see below for details!

Innokin Coolfire Z80 Mod Specs:

Size: 83.5×38.3×27.6mm
Output: 6-80W / 1-7.5V
User modes: Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, Frequency – F0 (20-100Hz), Coil refresh
Battery: 1×18650 (not included)
Display: Colour screen
Resistance range: 0.1-3.5ohm
USB Type C Charging – 1.7A charge rate
510 connection
Colours: Leather Black, Ash Grey, Leather White and Cloudy Grey

___________________________________________________________________

Fitting The Battery

The Coolfire Z80 accommodates a single 18650 battery via the bottom of the device by unscrewing the battery plate.

This style of installing your battery is old school but much loved and still used on many high end devices, you can't damage your wraps and it guarantees you will get no battery movement. I particularly like this style when a fold out lever is included making it much quicker and less fiddly to secure in place, on this battery plate as well as a fold out lever we also have venting holes which is good to see!

If you need to charge the battery in the device the Coolfire Z80 has a Type C USB connection and 1.7A charge rate, via the charging and data cable the device is also fully firmware upgaradeable!

___________________________________________________________________

The Display

The display gives plenty of info and is bright, sharp and uses colour sparingly which i find pleasing to the eye!

Top left we have the mode which will be W (normal variable wattage), V (Normal Variable Voltage) or F0 (Find your frequency mode), top right we have the battery status bar.

Underneath the information given we have the wattage or Voltage depending which mode you are in. The lower section of the display shows to the left vape time followed by your puff count and to the right we have resistance followed by bottom right the voltage which instead will display wattage in voltage mode or the frequency when using F0!

___________________________________________________________________

Operating The Coolfire Z80

The Coolfire Z80 is 3 clicks of the fire button to turn on and pressing fire and down together locks the navigational buttons but the device will still fire, when locked a padlock will appear under the mode and fire and right again unlocks. Pressing fire and up together brings up a screen showing the voltage on the battery, resistance of the coil and puff count, it also has an option to reset the puffs!

To enter the main menu is pressing both navigational buttons together which takes you to a list with the following options, F0, Power, Refresh, Settings and Exit, unlike on the Sensis F0 mode is unlocked out the box so no code is needed!

When selecting F0 it allows you to select an AC frequency which is something you can just play around with to find the best for different coil and juice combinations, for now i have just set it to 60hertz, there is also a Find F group on Facebook where people can discuss which frequency they find best for which coil which will be a good resource for some but i am just the type who likes to find out over time for myself!

Selecting Power allows you to choose between Wattage or Voltage modes while selecting Refresh fires your coil at 40% of your set power with AC current to draw liquid in so gives it a fresh prime which i must say does seem to spring life into a coil when getting old (flavour definitely improves after a refresh), this gives you the option of either a 4 or 8 second refresh!

Selecting Settings brings up the following options, Op Screen, Timeout, Cutoff, Device ID, Reset, Exit. These settings don't need to be explained as they are standard and seen on most devices but the Op, Screen allows you to change from the default Pro working screen to a more minimalistic display which doesn't give information like puffs etc although it still keeps a count and you can check puffs as explained earlier by pressing fire and left together. Finally to change the wattage you have to hold down either the up or down button for a couple of seconds which will cause the wattage to flash, it can now be adjusted in 0.5w increments from 6w up to 80W, it round robins. Below the new modes and features are explained!

___________________________________________________________________

Refresh

Refresh is a new feature that allows you to manually refresh the coil between hits to provide better wicking, bringing in flavour and to extend the coils life. Refresh does this by firing at 40% of your set wattage, drawing in more liquid.

___________________________________________________________________

Find Your Frequency (FØ)

FØ uses alternating current (AC) to produce a waveform that runs continuously while you vape. This is possible by sending an electrical output in a much more precise and efficient way through the coil.

You can adjust the hertz output to match your coil and e-liquid. When properly matched to your atomizer, FØ will extend coil life, provide smoother heat transfer, and even enhance specific flavours in e-liquid. AC will heat your e-liquid at a gradual rate, ensuring that it does not burn and produce a bad taste, so many of us have experienced.

(Disclaimer: After testing the device i really couldn't see how i could explain the new technology any better than Innokin themselves so the above information was a copy and paste from their website)

___________________________________________________________________

My Experience Using The Coolfire Z80 Kit And Thoughts!

Just like with the Sensis I have been loving this device and the new technology, I am more convinced than ever that it's no gimmick, the new technology works giving incredible coil life and improved flavour!

With the Sensis I then went on to say "but like with everything nothings perfect" but my cons for that device was to do with the 510 adaptor and in-built battery so have organically been addressed with the Coolfire Z80!

The F0 mode and Refresh features were explained in the review and in F0 Mode coil life improves dramatically and the flavour also in my experience definitely improves, when using the occasional Refresh once the coil head or build is getting older it really does give it a new lease of life giving a saturated vape full of fresh flavour!

Despite all the new technology i like how user friendly the device is so new vapers don't need to be put off or blinded by science. It's build quality is excellent, it's light and small, fitting in the hand with ease and is so comfortable to hold and fire!

The included 25mm Zenith II fits perfectly so most tanks you would want to use on a single 18650 device with look great. Battery life also seems efficient giving full value for your mAh's and if you need to charge in the device or upgrade we have a Type C connection and 1.7A charge rate! The only con i have for the mod is the puff counter resets every time the battery is removed!

I tried both coils with the Zenith II but as i have used both the original Zenith and Zlide tanks in the past so also many of the compatible coils I also wanted to see how the new technology worked with RTA's and impressed would be an understatement, coil life and the length of time between re-wicks increased significantly with F0 Mode and Refresh works just as well on an RTA as it does with commercial coils.

The Zenith II is an outstanding tank with my only con being i found with the membrane seal i couldn't use larger nozzles. With a suitable nozzle though filling is so quick and easy as is swapping coils out, there are plenty of MTL coil options for the Zenith II but what really impressed me was what a great RDL vape it gave with the included 0.3ohm coil being quite outstanding!

I do hope though that Innokin will release just the mod as however good a commercial coil tank is some vapers only use rebuildable options so will be put off needing to buy the kit when they won't use the tank!

For me the Coolfire Z80 Kit is the best kit released so far this year and will take some beating, maybe a dual 21700 version, just thinking out loud!!!!

Switching from Salt to freebase

When I first quit smoking a little over 2 years ago I started with 50mg closed system pods... then switched to open systems and dropped to 25mg nic with no problems... a while after I was fed up with spit backs and that awful taste in my mouth and moved on to MTL tanks with the same 50/50 25mg liquids.

I mostly use coils with anywhere from 0.7 to 0.9 resistance @ 15-18 wats.

I tried many times to switch to 3-6mg freebase but it never worked for me. Either I feel like I'm blowing air with no throat hit at all or I feel like my throat is getting coated with liquid (no nasty taste or spit back... just an uncomfortable feeling). I don't know why, but I'm guessing higher VG in freebase juices is what's causing this feeling. I know I can get used to lower nicotine intake after a while... but I can't stand the coated throat feeling.

DIY is a no go where I live. Nic salts are usually 50/50, very few are 60/40 and I could never find lower than 25 salts. Freebase are usually 70/30 and range between 3-6mg.

I tried adding a little salt 25 liquid to my freebase 3mg juice to get myself used to it but I still get that throat coat feeling not to mention the missing throat hit.

What should I do? I don't want to give up on freebase juices because I want to reduce my nicotine intake. Is there something in my setup that doesn't work properly with freebase? Should just man up and endure until I get used to freebase in my usual set up? Switch to DL (which I honestly don't prefer)?

Please help!

What causes a lipo battery to become unbalanced?

One of the lipo batteries on a 4S mod of mine has one cell that has a lower voltage than the others and will only charge the battery to 70% of the capacity.
Here's a pic of EScribe, cell number 2 is lower.image.jpg
What is the cause of that cell being unbalanced?
I'd rather avoid any further hassleso_O
@Mooch any lipo info would be very much appreciated Mate:thumb:
