I was one of the lucky winners of the Vaporesso XROS Kit Giveaway thread here on ECF some weeks ago. Thank you, Vaporesso, for that prize!
Now, I want to share my experience with this device. This shall not be a complete review but I just wanna share my thoughts about it and tell you about my experience with the XROS.
What I like
First of all, this is my first pod system ever, so I can't compare it to other pod vapes. The XROS feels very comfortable in my hand. No surprise, it is much more lightweight than my used to dual 18650 mods. With it’s dimensions of 112 x 23 x 13 mm it fits in every pocket which makes it the perfect vape for being out.
The design is classy and minimalistic. I like the brushed stainless steel finish. I heard some reviewers complaining about sharp edges at the bottom. I can't confirm this.
The finish seems to be rather durable. I already dropped the XROS on the terrace floor, just because it is so light in weight and I forgot that it rested on my lap, when I stood up. But I couldn't find one scratch on it after this accident.
Another good thing is the clear pod with a good view on the liquid level. Interestingly, according to my quick research, this is not a standard feature of pod vapes. But for me, this is really important, I must be able to check the liquid level easily, even in low-light conditions.
Battery life should be sufficient to last a working day, as long as you're not a chain vaper. With the 0,8 Ohm Pod I usually vape 3 Pods, which corresponds to 6 ml e-liquid. During the 4th Pod the Battery indicator starts to change from blue to red, which is when I put it on the charger. If you drain the battery completely, it should be possible to vape 8 ml of juice before recharging. And with the 1,2 Ohm coil, you get even longer battery life.
Charging is very quick. I did not make exact measurements, but it takes me less than an hour to fully recharge.
Btw… I like the USB-C port, which curiously still is not standard.
Okay, so what about flavour? Since this is my only Pod System, I cant't say if it's better than this or that device. But I find the flavour really good und satisfying. Yes, my Hellvape MD RTA tastes a little better, but the difference is not that great. So, keeping in mind the XROS is a tiny pod system, I would say the flavour is great.
One huge advantage over many other small pod kits is the presence of an adjustable airflow control. I really like this. You can adjust it from rather tight MTL to really open MTL, just as you like it. Depending on your definition of DL, the XROS can also do restrictive DL when set wide open.
Room for improvement
Are there some things, that I don't like about the XROS? Nothing major, but I still want to mention what is not perfect in my eyes.
The first thing is that I have to pull a little bit harder than I am used to when taking a draw. When I don't pull hard enough, the autodraw does not work properly and the coil starts gurgling. But you can easily avoid this by adjusting your draw technique.
Second, at least in my hands, there is some amount of condensation buildup inside the mouthpiece/chimney of the pod which ends up in my mouth. It's not bad, but perhaps this could be done better in a version 2 or so.
Another (very minor) point is the positioning of the airflow control slider. As some reviewers already mentioned, you can easily cover the airflow inlet with your finger. But after a while of usage you're getting used to position your index finger so that it does not interfere with the airflow. And for me this only comes into account when using the button. With draw activation I tend to hold the XROS more at the bottom, which eliminates the problem completely.
The next one is really nitpicking: I would like to have the LED indicator above the activation button, not below. Because when shutting the device on or off, my thumb covers the LED so I cannot see it. But honestly, this is not really necessary.
One last thing, and I don't know if any device on the market does this differently. I would like to really be able to activate/deactivate autodraw and button firing. When you prefer autodraw, you don't need the button and it would be safer when transported in the pocket if the button was deactivated. Of course, you can do the 5-click on and off thing, but it would be more convenient if this wasn't necessary.
And for those who prefer button-activated firing, a real deactivation of autodraw would give one the possibility to continue the draw for second or so after releasing the button to prevent condensation buildup in the mouthpiece. That's what I do on my other vapes.
My conclusion
I really like the Vaporesso XROS, and it is now my main vape for being out. I find the vapour satisfying and flavourful, battery life is great for such a tiny device and, of course, it is small. What lets it stand out from the crowd is the airflow slider on the back. I haven’t come across many pod kits of that size that offer something similar.
I can really recommend the XROS to everyone who wants a small pod system for MTL usage. It is a great little vape.
