In no particular order 'cause, well, it's hard enough to pick only 10 albums, ordering them would be almost impossible:

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus*
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Radiohead - In Rainbows
The Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin
Pixies - Doolittle
Pernice Brothers - Discover a Lovelier You
Minor Threat - Out of Step
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Thank God for Mental Illness
Nirvana - In Utero
Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville

In order (as of now.... subject to change at a whim)

Yes - Fragile
Rush - 2112
Steely Dan - Aja
Toadies - Rubberneck
Journey - Infinity
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
CSNY - Deja Vu
Aerosmith - Get Your Wings
Jeff Healey - Hell to Pay

But in a real-life scenrio where "best of" isn't disallowed, Al Green's Greatest Hits would definitely be on the list :)

ETA - LOL it was on the list - I took the wrong one out - fixed it now.

This is VERY hard!!

The "no best of" and "no 2 albums from same artist" made it even harder - I had a tough time picking between Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Animals.

I see Trower's Bridge of Sighs made several lists - great album, haven't heard in ages, now I gotta hunt it down LOL - Uriah Heep's Magician's Birthday too!

If I redid the list now, I'm pretty sure it would have a Beatles album - The White Album, or Abbey Road.... since I couldn't have both, picking one would be hard.

I'll stick with School's Out for my Alice Cooper record but...

Yesterday I scooped a German pressing of a double LP set of Alice Cooper's first two albums called School Days (1973) $3 in mint condition. Playing Pretties For You right now. Trippy Hippy stuff.

I didn't like it when I was a teen but it's grown on me like a fungus.

45 Years Ago: Alice Cooper Release 'Pretties for You' <- article from last June

"Pretties For You’ will definitely take you by surprise. It is unlike any other record in the Alice Cooper catalog. Take equal parts Yardbirds, Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd, Salvador Dali and a trashy Hollywood vibe, and you’re almost there."

Okay, here's my list, in no particular order, after Julian Cope.
  • Julian Cope - Peggy Suicide*
  • Human Drama - 14,387 Days Later
  • The Parlotones - A World Next Door to Yours
  • Queen - Queen II
  • The Tragically Hip - Live Between Us
  • The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
  • Depeche Mode - Violator
  • ELO - A New World Record
  • Ginger - Far Out
  • Blue October - Foiled for the Last Time

If you put a gun to my head and told me I could have one and only one album forever, the answer would always be Peggy Suicide. It's an epic exercise in creativity defying conventional genrification.
