OK fellow music lovers, here's one of the toughest questions you can be asked.

"If you could only have 10 albums in your collection to listen to for the rest of your life, what would they be?"

Rules:
--Double albums are OK, but you can have only one. Please denote a double album with an asterisk. For the younger crowd who may not remember "double LP albums", this is the same as a double CD set. If you don't know what a "double CD set" is, then you are too young to play  No seriously, give it a shot anyway :)
--NO "Best of..." albums
--NO duplicate artist (only one artist per list)
--Please only post one list per day. Duplicates on another post is fine, but try to change up at least half of your selections. All other rules still apply.

My list:
1. The Wall--Pink Floyd*
2. Operation: Mindcrime--Queensryche
3. Highway to Hell--AC/DC
4. Tales of Mystery and Imagination--The Alan Parsons Project
5. Paranoid--Black Sabbath
6. Pyromania--Def Leppard
7. Apostrophe--Frank Zappa
8. Godsmack--Godsmack
9. 2112--Rush
10. Who's Next--The Who

I just took a look at my iTunes library and thought..."How in Hades could I only pick 10?" I have 2182 albums to choose from just on that library, not to mention a lot I don't have yet. As I was going through, I was like, geesh I missed that one, and that one, etc... I still am so thankful for my iPod and having 114 gigs of music to choose from while I'm on the road. I have 138 gigs in my library now and it's still growing.

Wow, talk about a headscratcher, let me see if I can narrow it down (going through my library in FooBar2000)

1. Grateful Dead - American Beauty
2. Beck - Odelay
3. Miles Davis - .....es Brew
4. Pink Floyd - The Wall*
5. Metallica - Black Album
6. The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
7. Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York
8. Death In June - The Rule of Thirds
9. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - We're Only In It For The Money
10. Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine

I tried to be really eclectic, but looking back, I wish I had included some punk, blues, old country... But, I guess I will stick with that...

That would be nice, but for the purpose of this thread it's seeing how hard it is to narrow down your choices to just 10. Also, remember there are no "Best of" compilations allowed.

Today's list, in no particular order:

Pink Floyd--The Wall
The Alan Parsons Project--Tales of Mystery and Imagination
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention--Weasels Ripped My Flesh
Black Sabbath--Mob Rules
Ozzy Osbourne--Diary of a Madman
Blue Oyster Cult--On Your Feet On Your Knees
Deep Purple--Stormbringer
Dread Zeppelin--Un-Led-Ed
Judas Priest--Rocka Rolla
Iron Maiden--The Number of the Beast

The Clash - London Calling
The Stooges - The Stooges
Alice Cooper - Love it to death
Clutch - Live in Flint Michigan
The Band - Last Waltz
Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York
The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
The Doors - The Doors

Boy, this is hard~

Les McCann, Eddie Harris - Swiss Movement
Led Zepplin - Led Zeppin II
Paco de Lucia - Entre dos Aguas
Van Morrison-Moondance
The Band- The Last Waltz
Bach Violin Concertos - Paris Symphony Orchestra
Rolling Stones-Let It Bleed
Santana- Supernatural
Alice Coltrane - Ptah the El Daoud
Joni Mitchell - Blue
Bob Dylan-Blood on the Tracks

Here's a clip from Swiss Movement....I call this my driving song. It starts out simple, and crescendo's and gets pretty complex, so you have to get to the middle at least before you are in the groove. I can drive cross country w/this playing.

OF COURSE! I forgot Bob. One of the best albums ever.
Well as you can see, I mixed it up. If you're ONLY going to have 10 albums, I don't just want to listen to rock for rest of my life.

The Paco de Lucia is classical "flemenco" guitar, and you simply have to have some Bach or Beethoven or Vivaldi or something, even if you dont listen to classical orchestral music "a lot" but it has it's place. I would have liked to add one good opera CD as well, like Pavorati or one of the tenors......and also some really good gospel like aretha Amazing Grace or even Edwin Hawkin Singers (Oh Happy Days) for instance . And the folk and jazz is there in the list that I prefer.

I just could not imagine same style music *forever*. On rainy days certain music is better, on romantic days, on sunny days, on days you are not feeling well, etc.

I DO :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

However, I do like other types of music and my iTunes library is very eclectic. I have some Johnny Cash, Celtic Woman, London Symphony Orchestra (well, I have to confess it's the LSO covering Pink Floyd tunes:cool:) and a few others that some of my fellow metal heads would shake their head at in disgust. I'll listen to almost anything except Rap, Rap, or Rap and male country singers (they all sound alike to me and sing about the same old crap all the time).

I love following the music threads on here to see what else is out there I may have missed and enjoy seeing what other people listen to. I created this thread because folks tend to list the best of what they like and that kinda narrows down the field for me to see the stuff I'm not familiar with.

It's difficult picking only 10! I had to leave off The Wall, in favour of being able to hear Alice do Eighteen for eternity.... tough call but Alice wins.

Any Ramones album could be in my to 10 but didn't make it... so many favs. I had to pick 10 that actually changed my life in a way, so that's how I got to my 10... but had to leave off Dylan because I forgot about Blood on the Tracks. I'm listening to it now to make amends.

Interesting thread. Fun to see what other people think is important music. (to them)

Interesting thread. Fun to see what other people think is important music. (to them)

750+ rock LPs (only about 5 reissues)
350+ classical LPs mostly Beethoven & Haydn
50+ Jazz LPs mostly Miles Davis or early Benny Goodman & early Louis Armstrong/Bix/etc
50+ Blues LPs mostly Chess Blues & Johnny Winter but some early Mississippi Delta & Texas Blues
30+ Funk LPs mostly Funkadelic/Parliament/James Brown/Curtis Mayfield/Isaac Hayes & Ohio Players
some Hank Williams Jr & Waylon LPs
Most of the Warner Brothers Loss Leaders. I lost interest from their mid-70s on.
Bill Cosby singing Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
I play all 3 Elvis Christmas LPs every X-Mas & have about 10 more pre-1970 Elvis LPs

CD's are another whole BoW. I have ~1350 Live Dead CDRs from 1966-2/1979 for instance

@Racehorse - That Les & Eddie song is cool. I don't know where I recognize it from but :thumb:

31 FLAVORS LYRICS - SACRED REICH

I cranked Pantera & BLS the other day & rocked early Ohio Players all day today while I mixed ejuice

"variety is the spice of life"

this is fun but no way could I pick 10 and leave the rest.
