General Avoidance

Is there a general list of flavor makers that the forum as a whole kind of avoids? I am sure some makers are turning out crap all day and I'd like to avoid them before buying and wasting my money. Also I didnt see a sub forums for flavor/brand recommendations, like a "hey whose got the best Turkish tobacco" kinda thread. A lot of flavors on sites dont have reviews and most reviews I cant depend on to be authentic.

What do you all think is a more reliable brand for flavors? I know Capella is on a lot of peoples top picks but what else?


EDIT: also is there a general rule of thumb for % of flavors based on category, like candy/tobacco/fruit.


Ive bought some Flavor West -Tobacco and everyone says its nasty at 10% and 2% is much better.

I like to put Heinz catsup on my pizza. What brand of catsup do you put on your pizza? As a rule of thumb, I cover the slice with little dots, no more then 8. Delmonte is okay, but I need to use 12 dots to get the same effect.

I get that flavor is subjective but what I mean are some brands known to be more watered down than others?

That will vary based upon the flavour, the company and possibly the source.
I have only sampled 40 or so flavours from TPA, Flavour west, Inawera, Totally wicked , Flavourart and Hangsen.
I start at about 10% and adjust from there.
Please allow your mixes to steep for a while before you toss them. Some flavours may not develop right away or may need to "soften" a bit before they are enjoyable. Take COPIOUS notes.

I don't know about a brand as a whole, but TFA Green Tea is on my list of crap to avoid. It smells and tastes like something on the floor of a men's room in a bar at last call.

For the most part I avoid Loranns. Mostly avoid flavor west as well. Yellow cake and candy cane being exceptions.

I like lots of stuff from inawera flavouart Capella Hangsen and some tfa. Percentages are all over the place. But as a rule I start with 2% of Fa and inawera. The others I start around 5%. Generally accent flavors are .5-3%. There is lots of reading about the flavors as there are exceptions for everything. To further complicate things flavors just aren't one size fits all. You will make some dreadful stuff.

I buy my flavors at bullcityvapor and stick with the hangsen and inawera line mostly. I have not been disappointed yet.
