Hi all,

I have started to DIY and so far have had mixed results. Some of my mixes have been ok (but far from great) and some have reminded me of the horrible dekang liquids that I started on - which make me grimace now.

I have googled and read hundreds of recipes but I can't seem to find something decent which doesn't consist of about 6+ flavours. Can anyone recommend me a simple (3 flavours max) fruity recipe that is good for an ADV? I just want something I can use and make simply whilst I am experimenting and tweaking with more complex ones.

Apologies if this has come up before, but any help would be appreciated.

Just so you know what I have so far (all CAP);

Strawberries & cream,
Blueberry,
Double watermelon,
Greek yoghurt

Thanks all

Ben

If those 4 flavorings are the only ones you have so far...and you're trying to make a recipe with them, I'm afraid you're probably out of luck. You have 3 primary flavorings and 1 secondary, or blender. You need other secondary or blending flavorings, like some of these: Sweet Cream, Bavarian Cream, Marshmallow, Whipped Cream, Banana Cream, Vanilla Custard, Vanilla Swirl, etc., and some sweetening flavorings, too. Most recipes call for 1 or both of some common ones...like TFA Sweetener and/or TFA Cotton Candy. They're called by names that will vary from 1 manufacturer to another. For example, I think the CAP version of TFA Sweetener is called SuperSweet, and it's much sweeter than the TFA.

A simple 3 flavoring recipe that a bunch of my friends like is a version of a NannerBerry eliquid I make for them:

TFA Strawberry Ripe - 9%
TFA Banana Cream - 6%
TFA Cotton Candy - 2%

You could use your CAP Strawberries & Cream instead though, IMO. And the other 2 TFA flavorings above don't have to be TFA, if you'd rather get CAP. Might need to adjust the % for each one though, as how strong they are does tend to be alittle different from 1 maker to another.

Or...try first what dannyv45 recommended above. Lots of new DIY do some mixes with their One Shot Flavors and/or One Shot Blends first...to get the hang of DIY.

I was just checking my flavor inventory this weekend and saw I have all of those. I have to give this a try.

I in fact was looking for my TFA strawberry ripe to give my OSD strawberry milk recipe an additional strawberry kick which it did nicely. I was also considering experimenting with coconut, strawberry, pineapple and banana to give it a tropical island type twist.

Some flavorings are rather good on their own. But, totally different flavors can be had by mixing flavors together. As was said, I see flavors as primary or seconday, but that isn't 100%. Sometimes a recipe needs two or more primary flavors working together.

I use little 5ml bottles and make 2.5ml samples in them. Then they steep before I try them. Learning about steeping times for flavors really helps. There are many postings in this sub-forum that address it. As to what to make, imagination is all that is needed. Much like just experimenting in the kitchen. Most people don't do it, but I found that sliced tomato is great on my grilled cheese and ham sandwiches. Give a different flavor.

I would make a batch of base (PG, VG, Nic) and then use that with your flavors or combinations, but, read, too. Of note, is the concern about FDA regulation of flavorings. I would pick up some more flavors, primary and secondary, so experimenting is easier and cheaper.

I am a Banana Nut Bread fan and I just ordered an extra helping. I figure I will be supplied for about two years so the FDA turbulence can settle a bit.

Get some bottles and start making test samples. I use 1ml & 3ml syringes. I then just wash them out well.

Good luck!

Ah, I remember being right where you are. I'm a fan of fruit flavors, in particular Peach, and spent countless hours finding my ADV when I first started mixing. 2 years later I am still using the same ADV recipe. The very simple ingredients are listed below.

For purposes of ease these numbers reflect a 10ml batch.
7ml 24mg 50/50 Base
2ml Lorann Peach
1ml Lorann Vanilla
.5ml Capella Sweet Strawberry
2 drops of TFA - Ethyl Maltol per 10ml

Shake and run under hot water for 60 seconds. I usually let it steep over night as a rule, but you can vape right away if needs be.

I like your comparison. I too like tomato on grilled cheese. I find the acid in the tomato helps to balance the rich fats of the cheese and butter. It adds depth and complexity to the sandwich that would otherwise be pretty much one note.
DIY mixes can likewise be expanded by adding one or two complimentary and/or contrasting notes (flavors).
Will order the flavours and see how it goes.
HaHa! Another poor helpless soul gets sucked into the bottomless vortex known as DIY!
Seriously, good luck and best wishes!! :D

Danny - I hear you about adding alittle extra Strawberry Ripe to the OSDIY Strawberry Milk. I did the same thing!

By the way, I also slightly tweak the recipe for the NannerBerry above that my friends like, when I'm making my own batch. I add about .5-1% of regular TFA Strawberry to it. I like what the 2 Strawberry flavorings do together.

About your tropical island twist with the flavorings you listed...I've experimented and done several variations using some of those, too. For 1 that I called Hawaiian Delights...I use all TFA: DX Coconut, DX Sweet Cream, DX Banana Cream, Pineapple, and some Sweetener. It reminds me of a Pina Colada. The other is a slightly tweaked version of one of Bill's recipes called "Flamingo". It's made with all TFA: Strawberry Ripe (I add some reg. Strawberry to this one, too), Peach, DX Coconut, and Sweetener. Both are some of my favorites, and I find I run out of them before I think I will!

Another one that I will give a try. Especially as it's a quick one.

Thanks!

It's very tough to beat FlavorArt's Forest Mix if you want an exceptional fruity vape using a single flavor , add in a little VBIC and Fresh Cream and it's as good as the best premiums i have had.

Capella's Harvest Berry is also a great one.

Thanks for the recommendation. What percentages would you use out of interest?

Regarding the upcoming FDA Vapeocalypse, some flavors will be safe, and others won't, as far as I can tell.

It appears to me that any flavors from Capella or TFA will be safe from regulation, since they're marketed and advertised specifically as food flavors. Nothing in their websites or product descriptions mention anything vape related.

However, some flavors, such as One Stop DIY Shop branded flavors, run the line of "Intended or reasonably expected" to be used in eliquids, which could cause some problems. Adding a "For food use only" disclaimer may or may not be enough to protect them from the deeming regulation.

Additionally, some vendors (such as Liquid Barn) may run into problems since they market specifically for eliquids.

BOOM!

I finally came up with a flavor that tastes like Life Savers Tropical.

What your doing is exactly what I'm trying. I'm looking for that tropical twist. Should make a nice summer vape.

I see a lot of renaming and marketing changes in there future. They may want to get started early before it's to late.
