I am running about 0.55-0.6 ohms on almost everything I build these days. I stay satisfied with my batts down to about 3.5V when measured by themselves (not under load). Between 3.6-3.5 ish volts, I will start to notice the performance decrease, and by 3.4 I'm feeling the need for a new batt.

Since VTC5 just isn't available, and I have little to no interest in a new device (thus nixing 26650 or dual batt configs) I'm looking for the best capacity between 4.2-3.5, with discharge rates of 5 and 10 amps being relevant.

I have the field narrowed down to 18650PF from Panasonic, or the 25R from Samsung.

I know that the labeled capacity for the Panasonic is higher, at 2900 mAh, but that label doesn't directly translate to my application.

Thus, I am wondering if anyone has direct experience with both of these, and if so, is there a notable difference in capacity. My current stable of batteries is starting to show their age, and I want to make the right replacement decision.

just saw a post a little while ago where xtar is claiming to make a battery that performs the same or better than the vtc's

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/apv-discussion/667163-18650-batteries.html

I requested spec sheets three times,
first time was a reprint of their advertizement with a ' garenteee this battery work good ' 'we only make best battery'.
Second one was missing actual testing curve charts & temperature range while testing at specific loads, and a note saying ' our battery much better than sony and any other ' and ' made extra special for you use '
My third request was detailed to avoid run around / confusion, sent 3 pages of complete non sense and a curve chart identical to a well know 20a battery.

Maybe someone else will have better luck, for me, no thanks.

Since you are consistantly running 0.55 - 0.6 ohms, I highly recommend a battery with more than just 10 amps continuous. You're right at the cutoff line for a 10 amp battery, with no safety headroom factored in. You're pushing a 10 amp battery way too hard. The Panasonic 18650PF 2900mah is only a 10 amp battery and not well suited for sub-ohms. The Samsung 1865025R is a 20 amp continous battery, and better suited for sub-ohm usage.

When sub-ohming, amps (max. continuous discharge rate) are more important than capacity (mAh). Mah ratings are estimated for low drain applications such as a flashlight. With high drain applications such as an advanced personal vaporizer/subohm coils or power tools you can throw those estimates right out the window.

    I suggest the following:

    AW 18650 2200mah 20Amps

    LG 18650HE2 2500mah 20A

    Orbtronic 18650 2500mAh 21A
    Orbtronic 18650 SX30 2100mAh 30A

    Samsung hybrid (LiNiCoMnP) INR18650-25R 2500mAh 20A

    Sony hybrid 18650VTC4 2100mAh 30A
    Sony hybrid 18650VTC5 2600mAh 30A Final word on Sony's production plans for the US18650 VTC4 and the US18650 VTC5 (April 9, 2015)
