Single coil
26 ga Nichrome
5 wraps
.49 ohms
37W
Pico 75
Mer Mini rta

Not sure what's going on here and am new to building. I've wrapped many coils since last night(screwed plenty up) and can't get this to heat up anymore. Both Nichrome and SS. All I can imagine is a short somewhere. While the problem began last night I did manage to melt a coil while dry burning a bit ago I think due to metal fatigue and my obsession over the perfect coil - too much bending. I have a great, tasty vape right now, but it's cool. Madness I tell you! Show me the error of my ways.

i. Of note I have not removed the post screws or scrubbed the post holes since the burn. Problem predated it.
ii. 45/50W will give a tiny bit of heat.

TIA

If you Pico is reading the Ohms of the Coil, and if the Ohms are Reasonable, you Don't have a Short.

For that Build, 37 Watts should be Pumping Out
Single coil
26 ga Nichrome
5 wraps
.49 ohms
37W
Pico 75
Mer Mini RTA

Are you in TC Mode by any chance?

Now I have a question
Would spaced coils work better than contact coils, when made with nichrome?

I'm not sure. I've always did contact coils with Nichrome. The flavor has been good so I didn't even think about spacing them.

Now I got to try it spaced

Jig. The one with the tapered declination.

Have done both spaced and adjoining coils, fyi.

Nichrome is a little different from kanthal. A little tougher to work with.

On a jig I don't really worry about getting the wraps tight. They look quite sloppy really. After clipping I take the jig end and press it down on the wire and hold it. Then I take the wire off the the jig and put it on the opposite way and press it again.

Don't worry about the spacing when you put it on your deck. Get it in, center it, move it up or down over the vent hole to your desired location.

At this point start pulsing it at 2 seconds at 16 watts. Do this 5 times and then bump it up 2 watts and repeat. When you get a bit of a glow then use your tweezers the pinch the coil tight. Don't go higher than 30 watts and just be patient. Pulse, pause, pulse, pause. Pinch.

Don't use TC and did double check. Thx.

That's kinda Strange then. Because 37 Watts on that Build should be Pumping out Vapor.

I run Very Similar builds on my RTA's, 26ga NiChrome 80 @ .6 Ohms. They hit Great for me at 16 ~ 18 Watts. Not even Sure my High VG e-Liquids would wick very well at 37w with the RTA's I use.

BTW - When you Dry Burn, you might consider turning the Watts down to 10 Watts or so. Achieves the Same thing but makes it Harder to Melt the Coil than at Higher wattages.

Do you have the air fully open? That coil looks fairly small for the Merlin mini without a restrictor in.
I'm running a 4mm 24g/34 ss clapton at 47w and with it wide open it's not too warm. So I close the afc halfway.
I don't really like claptons but in the MM, it's alright.

All good tips, gang. I was having an easy time with coils the past few weeks and they were spaced and loose builds if you will until this bump in the road. Rewatched basic coiling vids trying to trouble shoot it. The photo reflects my final attempt and where I'm at now. Plenty of flavor and vapor...

I've been running this coil build for weeks so I'm not sure what has changed. Frankly, it's all I'm after at the moment.

Juice vents closed, air open about 1/3.
