Crowdfunding study- longterm efficacy & safety

Came across this while perusing kickstarter

I did ask if anyone in the groups smokes, and their reason/inspiration for pursuing the study.

Lamberto Manzoli says:
Dear Jeff,thank you very, very much for supporting us! Your contribution is essential.As regards the motivation, well, I smoke 1-2 cigars per day but not e-cigarettes or traditional cigarettes. Some of the investigators smoke traditional cigarettes, only one tried e-cigarettes, but most do not smoke.We had the idea to start the study because we realized that, although several years were passed from their launch, there were very few studies on their safety and efficacy, and none was made or even planned on their long-term effects.Usually, for products of comparable importance, many studies are made or planned very soon after their commercialization (or, for durgs, before...).It was disturbing and we thought that we should have done something!Please feel free to contact for any other query!Again, thank you very much, best,Lamberto
