PG has been studied since the 40's.

Besides, it has been used in formulations to treat lung diseases, when it is the best solvent for the specific medicine that's being used. I believe that's were Hon Lik got the idea of using it in the first place. As a pharmacint, it's only logical that hw would resort to something that was already being used in the medical field.

Nicotrol inhaler, that is sold over the counter? Yep. There's also PG in there. :)

Study shows inhaled medicine improves survival for lung transplant patients
Study shows inhaled medicine improves survival for lung transplant patients | EurekAlert! Science News
Quote:
"One of the major challenges the researchers faced early on was finding a substance that could be mixed with the cyclosporine to enable patients to safely inhale the drug without irritating their throat or lungs. They decided to combine the cyclosporine with propylene glycol, which allowed the drug to be administered as an aerosol. Novartis Pharmaceuticals provided the cyclosporine powder, which was then compounded by the researchers."

They use PG as a carrier in Albuterol inhalers... So, no, I would say it isn't corrosive to lung tissue.

Albuterol for asthma and PG!? | E-Cigarette Forum

"Albuterol Sulfate Syrup for oral administration contains 2 mg of albuterol as 2.4 mg of albuterol sulfate in each teaspoonful (5 mL). Albuterol Sulfate Syrup also contains the inactive ingredients citric acid, FD&C Yellow #6, flavor enhancer, hypromellose, propylene glycol, purified water, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate, strawberry flavor. Sodium hydroxide may be added to adjust pH."

Please stop with the inhaler comparison.

Unless people are sucking back 5ml per day, every day of their asthma inhaler, you cannot compare the two.

Everything has a TLV and LD50/LC50.

Actually there is no PG in ANY inhaler. It is a misinformed thing that gained traction.

Pg is no longer used in nebulizers. The carrier is mostly saline water.

That lung trnsplant study by the manufacturer didn't study effect of PG on lung tissue. The manufacturer is concerned only with rejection aspect.
The carrier for albuterol is HFA-134a, whatever the heck that is. But that doesn't change the fact that PG was safely used as the carrier in nebulizers for MANY years.

Hydrofluouroalkane. :) It tastes like grain alcohol, usually, though mercifully, GSK has managed to get rid of that nasty taste from their Ventolin.
