I recall hearing (long before vapor was an option) that nicotine causes damage to the inner lining of arteries, which the body attempts to repair by way of cholesterol, which then leads to plaque build up and blocking of the arteries.
I seem to recall that being said. Smoking cigarettes in and of itself it a risk factor.
Risk factors that can be changed include the following:

Atherosclerosis (Hardening of the Arteries) Causes, Symptoms, Treatment - Hardening of the Arteries Causes - eMedicineHealth
Patches and gum do not seem to be included. They have been deemed safe for life time
use.

Mike

Patches and gum use is almost always discussed relative to continued cigarette smoking. Compared to smoking, lifetime patch and gum use is much, much less of a risk factor. I would like for vapor products to be cast in a similar light. The truth is, no matter how damaging nicotine may be, without vaping I will be back to smoking in no time, and I won't be as apologetic as I was before.

@navigator2011 Just to make the record clear cigarette smoking is
noted by many sources as a cause of hardening of the arteries. I
do not claim it that it is or isn't a cause either way. High cholesterol
is always listed as the number one cause. I suspect like many other
things smoking is added to the list because why not? It's bad for you,
right?

@navigator2011... I suspect like many other things smoking is added to the list because why not? It's bad for you, right?

I do think there's been quite a bit of research performed with respect to smoking's effect on cardiovascular health, before adding smoking to the list. What I've always wanted to know was how does smoking cause harm. That answer has become more clear with more recent research.

As I recall, and in super simplistic terms, bad cholesterol is used to cope with irritation within the arteries and to repair damage. As the body attempts to clean up the bad cholesterol in the blood, the bad cholesterol is drawn into the artery walls where it gets stuck, leading to hardening of the artery walls and blockages. Anything that causes irritation and/or damage within the arteries could cause this situation. Even if vaping is found to cause these effects, it is still far better than smoking and is a useful tool to help smokers quit tobacco. At least for this reason, I will continue vaping.

Yet they fail to show the data with the differences between vaping and smoking which is crucial to know for vapers... If it affects it less then it's still harm reduction...

What device was used? Were they using it in dry hit conditions? What level of nic, did they try different pg/vg ratio's? etc etc etc...

I switched from smoking to vaping 18 months ago. I feel better and save $3,000 a year. It would be easier now to stop vaping, cold turkey than it would have been to stop smoking cold turkey. May be I'll stop vaping, may be not. I'm better off today than I was 18 months ago.

People who never smoked and want to vape, whoever they may be, might be more interested in this medical minutiae. May be the right decision for them is to find a different hobby.
