I'm totally new to DIY, but I am patiently waiting for my first DIY lab equipment and chemicals to arrive at any minute. I've read through all 42 pages of this thread, and I have some proposals to make for your review before I make them, I hope. Not being too familiar with flavoring percentages, I'm trying to stick close to 10%, though I've noticed lots of the recipes in this thread calling for a total of 15-20%. All of the flavorings that I got are TFA except for FA Custard.

Creamy Banana & Strawberry Cream
3% Banana Cream
3% Strawberries & Cream
2% FA Custard
1% Whipped Cream

Banana Custard
5% FA Custard
3% Banana Cream
1% Cinnamon Sugar Cookie

Orange Dream
5% Orange Cream
2% Whipped Cream
1% FA Custard

Creamy Banana Doodle
5% Cinnamon Sugar Cookie
3% Banana Cream
1% FA Custard

Are these ratios looking fair enough for a trial or are there glaring errors? I'm making a lot of guesses here, but I'm hoping that what I've absorbed in this thread is, at the very least, making my guesses somewhat educated ones! Thoughts, concerns, advice, etc...?

Also, I want to make a "big bottle" of Whipped Cream to use as a mixer; any advice on what percentage I should use? I often find myself mixing in MBV Whipped Cream with various fruit juices, so I figured that I could save some dough by making my own TFA Whipped Cream in bulk.

My initial thought is straight up 15%, but as a mixer, I'm wondering if 20% wouldn't be better. Thoughts?

Don't know about the Whipped Cream but I would make a small batch, say three ml, to see before making a big batch. Your recipes look reasonable but everyones tastes are different. After a year I still have not found the magic bullet. I had to go back and make single flavor tests to get a feel for the flavors again. Good luck! Hang in there. Much better than the high prices of commercial blends. One thing I do is I have premixed unflavored ejuice at my preferred strength and I vape it along side whatever I'm testing. That way I'm still getting my nic fix and it helps "clear the pallet" if you will.

That makes a lot of sense. I do similarly when it comes to dripping. I'll put a few drops of unflavored nic juice to help clear things out in between different flavors. For some reason my package still hasn't arrived, even though the mail has already come today; sometimes they'll deliver packages separately if they're larger packages, so I'm still hoping for today. The USPS tracking says that it's out for delivery, so it should be all good.

TFA Blueberry Extra 3%
TFA Coconut 1%
TFA Sweet Cream 1%
TFA EM 1%
TFA Sweetener 2%

This is a light ADV for me. You can taste the blueberry and the coconut, the sweet cream seems to enhance both. I use a 10% EM solution following the directions from TFA. I make my juices 50/50 pg/vg.

No expert here, but like Paddymx I had to start over and do individual flavors to zero in on percentages. Your levels look comparable to mine. Generally, I find my taste is toward lower percentages. Looks like that's where you're headed, too.

I've had ZERO success with whipped cream. All I ever get is fake butter taste. That's just me, though. However, I've seen others have trouble with the whipped cream. Just a heads up. Don't be discouraged by my experience. Yours may be better.

I bought a bottle of whipped cream juice before I started DIY, I would add it to some fruit flavors I had that tasted to "acidy" to me and it helped smooth them out. The odd thing is after doing that I read someone say to add lemon juice or sour flavor to something that tastes to acidic and that will smooth them out, something about "like helping like".

Isn't em and sweetener pretty much the same thing ?

Just to be contrary, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-liquid-recipes/343181-tpa-tfa-recipes-only-9.html#post10657603

could you check your bottle to see if it just says Coconut? Do we have another case of a difference between what is offered and what we get?

Used for the same effect but different. From WL "Pure Ethyl Maltol crystals by The Flavor Aprentice. Ethol Maltol crystals concentrated flavoring is FDA approved for use in food, beverages and products for human consumption. Ethyl Maltol crystals have an aroma like spun sugar or cotton candy, and can be used to mellow or give a sweetening effect to a recipe without adding any actual sweetness like sugar or sucralose." Sweetener has sucralose.

Oh OK I gotcha. I was thinking why add sweetener when you could add a little more em?

Trying my mistake now. Even with 15% Black Cherry, very faint. Must prove that to much flavor actually lessens the flavor.Has a hint of Cheesecake(Graham Crust) but will need to let it sit for a couple of days to see what happens.

Update:After 24hrs. flavor still not coming through, but, I've decided 2% saline is to much. I think I'm going to drop it to 0.75% and go from there.

Coconut is the only one I have, it can be overpowering so I have not tried the extra, and not sure how coconut candy would be different, so I have not tried it yet. All my flavors are TFA with the exception of a few from Capella's. I am trying to stick with mainly TFA so I know for future reference what I am using. I keep index cards on each recipe, and each adjustment, but since so many people recommended those two I have not bought anything else.

The only reason I brought it up was because their(TFA & WL) sites don't offer a "Coconut" just Coconut Extra. In that link I gave you you can see that others have bottles labeled Coconut as well. I have other flavors where the labels don't match the site or the invoice. Thought others might wonder why they couldn't find "Coconut". Thanks for checking. If you still have your invoice, see if thats what you ordered. I'm finding more and more that vendors change the names without notice.

Sometimes Linda at TFA updates the site with newer stronger flavors, hence the "Extra" ones, and it says this on their descriptions usually too. Sometimes the old regular strength is left on the site, and sometimes it's not, and there has been times where I've personally seen both of a few flavors there at once too. Sometimes WL has both, sometimes TFA does, other times they'll either only have one or the other.

Same applies with other places selling TFA, so I think it all just depends on what TFA has in in stock at the time vendors order, what she has in stock personally, and what she's had time to update or not on the main site.

It's not just coconut with the two versions, I've seen and have Blueberry Extra, Coconut Extra, Brown Sugar Extra, and I believe I've seen a few others on the site in the past too but I can't think of which right now.

Hi guys! i have some question re ejuice diy:

1. is there any secret component/liquid aside from the usual pg. vg, concentrate, and some additives (menthol, sweetener, etc)? my mix is 50/50 but its not that thick.

2. what is the maximum percentage for the concentrates? im into 20-24% but still lack in taste. the smell is good and looks tasty but when i try, it looks like theres something missing or what. im thinking to add anonther percentage just to please my taste buds. im looking for the "hit the g-spot" thing.

3. what is the difference between ethyl mathol and sweetener?

4. does anyone tried "the smooth" of TPA?

just forgot some question but will post it here when i remember. btw, im using all tpa/tfa

thanks!

Sitting down, facing forward.
Ethyl maltol is more of a mellowing agent than a sweetener. It does add a slight hint of sweetness, but certainly isn't sweet to me at 2.5% which is what I use it at. It can help blend flavors and seems to make the "play well together". Sweetener is just that, a sweetener. Another additive, non flavor related is "Smooth" which can actually change the entire flavor profile. Others have used white vinegar and even 4% saline solution, both of which can "meld" flavors and "brighten" them. I also have to ask if you are steeping the liquids, either a traditional time steep or heat-assisted steep?
