What are your top dual parallel unregulated/mech mods as of mid 2015?

Hi folks,

I am at the all too familiar stage of wanting a new toy. As the dna 200 craze is just beginning, and I have yet to see a mod that interests me at all, I have decided to update my unregulated collection first.

My eye is currently on the Titan box by Silver Steam Vapor. Nothing against this type of mod but I have always been a regulated or mech guy. I feel like the build quality or cleanliness is lacking on the Hammond box jobs.

So, what are your top dual parallel mods currently for sale? They could be full mechanical or just unregulated.

To keep things realistic, lets limit it to those under $300 USD.

My current favorite straight mechs are the Abaddon, Cherry Bomber, and the Dimiri. I am waiting on a copper MCV Raptor clone that is in the mail. I can't recommend that one yet, but it appears to be very similar to the CB except more elegant engravings, a flush switch, and with more delrin insulation on the top.

I have an Ivogo Dimitri and love it. I also have a Dos Equis (from FC), which looks great and performs well but I don't care for the switch. I had a Castigador which I got from AC......it ended up being junk that I tossed in the trash. No interest in the Cherry Bomber just because I think the "etchings" on it are lame. I want to pick up another box and am torn between the Raptor and the Tuglyfe. Waiting for reviews on both to make a decision.

I just got my copper Raptor clone from 88evape.com. First impressions are that this thing is fantastic! The button is perfect with a short throw and feels so nice, its better than my authentic Paps v4 firing switch. It hits HARD. It works just like a Cherry Bomber, except you can mount larger sized or even square atomizers on this one, due to the delrin top. The batteries screws are perfect and so much better than using a screwdriver. I need to use it a few more days before reviewing, but so far this mod is perfect.

I am liking the Abaddon and Raptor best so far.

Can someone please explain to me why all these mods have such a small contact plate? Like the switch simply pushes on a small copper plate to complete the circuit. Why cant we have a nice big beefy copper block of some kind mounted on the back of the switch which connects the + and - ? I keep imagining those small plates being bent or cracking and the thing going into auto fire mode and then me fumbling with the battery compartments trying to get it to stop while it gets hotter and hotter.

I am not sure what you are referring to. These are mechanical switches. There is no + and -.

The basic design is a metal bar that is in contact with the batteries and another that contacts the 510 connection. To pass current between these bars, there is a thin flat spring, which is pressed in by the button and completes the circuit. I wish I could find a good picture...

I have seen this type of spring fail countless times in other applications. Constantly bending metal causes fatigue and leads to weakening, cracking, and eventually failure. My question is why not mount a chunk of metal to the switch itself and use magnets to hold the circuit open when not in use like many of the tube mods do.

I realize this is most likely never going to be an issue, but watching these flat springs fail in other applications bothers me for some reason. I wish I could use the machine shop for personal projects. Then I could just make my own.

The Raptor doesn't work like this. Neither does the Cherry Bomber.

The reason the Dimirti or Abaddon use a separate connection to the 510 is that they are mechanically switching the positive from the batteries by moving that plate. The plate is not a spring though. The spring, or magnets, are in the switch itself.

ETA: It could be done like a tube mod also, where the negative is not connected to the box at all until the switch is pressed, but this would require something like a switch on the bottom of the box... which would be an inconvenient place for most people. Or possibly a lever like the Slug mod... this would make the box much bigger than it needs to be though, especially for a dual battery mod.

I like the look of the Abaddon, too bad it has that logo.....

How deeply etched is the logo? Could it be polished off on a wheel without messing up the mod?

Eric
The logo is not deep at all on my angelcigs clone, its a laser etching. But it doesn't come off when I polish it with cape cod. A polishing wheel might do it though...

Chipotle.
I only have one top, I've got Ivogo clones of the Cherry Bomber which I no longer use and also an Ivogo clone of the Osmium which I do still occasionally use. About three weeks ago I ordered my first "Lethal" box from FC. $33.03-$33.48 (Ships from USA)Lethal Style Mechanical Box Mod by ShenRay- Black

The only parallel box mod that I now carry routinely is that Lethal box, triple parallel 18650 in a package only marginally larger than most dual 18650(abaddon excluded). The Lethal has been an absolute surprise, at 0.12 ohms with three Samsung 25R's I can vape a full 15ml of juice before the batteries need charged. The button has been flawless, and since the portion of the button your finger presses carries zero current it will never get a hot button, no springs or magnets to worry about holding the switch contacts apart as it uses a solid copper reed switch which I truly love the design of. My only gripe is that it feels kind of cheesy/weak/light without batteries in it, however that changes once assembled with batteries and it feels very solid with them installed.

From my perspective the Lethal seems to get passed over by a lot of people either due to the name or possibly thinking it's a gimmicky mod with little to offer...for $35, it's one of the best multiple battery full mechanical(zero wires) parallel boxes. For one reason or another it just seems to fly under the radar of many people.
