I shouldn't have been so lazy and just done the math to start with. I don't know how accurate they were, but one web site listed the 14500 as 51.5mm long. That's the one I used. I suspect these things vary in length a little from manufacturer to manufacturer, but nothing the spring compression won't make up for.

I wouldn't bank on that; I was trying to find a 18650 for a bottom-feeder once. I bought one online that bottomed out the spring & still would have needed maybe another millimeter. The next one needed a magnetic spacer.

Well I'll trust Buzzkill to figure out the exact measurements, lol, that's what he gets paid the big bucks for. I just wanted to get a feel for the length using the 14500 extender. I figure somewhere between 1/2 to 2/3 inches longer, probably closer to 1/2 inch. That gives me a pretty good idea how it will look and feel. Just out of curiosity, were both 18650's protected? That is a big difference. Kind of scary to think the same batteries can have such different lengths.

Very cool Jimho ! , ya the sizes vary wildly ! I try to accommodate what I can BUT there is NO guarantee that all batteries will fit .
The Extender is 14mm long so .6 " or so I always make the spring LONG so that we can fit large variations in length the tube ID on the Infinity is 14.5mm dia.

That is a bit scary PI and yes, isn't the number of the batt supposed to mean the physical size of the batt?

I have 2 14500s...how do I tell whether or not they are high drains? If they are, I won't want to use them with the ∞. BDL 100623 100530, IMR14500-600mah.

The answer to your first question is yes, i believe that 14500 means that the battery is 14mm diameter, 50mm length

and the answer to question #2 is also a yes I M R
I = Lithium M = Manganese R = Rechargeable These would be the LiMn high-drain batteries...

And heres a little tip explaining what those numbers mean: the first two numbers refer to the diameter ie, 14 the second set refers to the length of the battery just taking the zero at the end off ie, 500 really means 50... Remember that all measurements are in mm. So again if we want 14500 batteries that it means that they are 14mm Dia X 50mm L per...

It does- its the size of the internal battery... not the casing with PCB + button top....

Here's a nice comparison of finished battery sizes (and detailed comparison of 18650's) for you:

CPF is my #3 place to go jimho, after ECF and CF4. You into the LED lights too? I'm into the 2xaaa's for shirt pocket use.

I'm with you it can be an inch and it would be okay.

Think I had read it but just to be sure, do you get both the end caps when you get the 14500 option?

Gregg I'm betting the extension will be threaded on both ends so that it screws to the Infinity and then the end cap onto that. I could be wrong, but probably just the 1 end cap. Mike will be back next week and he can answer for sure :)

Not into lights, but into batteries after having a runaway while driving (fortunately with LiFePo4's) due to a shorted atty centerpost...

BTW: thought I had already posted... i'm in for one too.
