was thinking

can we take bets on who will finish first? bee renovations, or tami starting from the ground up?

[joking] how is the houses coming, you two? bee updates got thin on the ground post tami-hurricane
Well, to be fair we're not working around all our "stuff" so easier to do I think.
We're down to finishing ie window sills, door frames, and back splashes. Got the last permanent door installed after painting yesterday. Still have all the outside doors to paint and 2 left to install. Our house has way too many doors. 17 inside doors and the outside door from the laundry room to the garage then the 2 small doors going outside from the garage and of course the front door. I suppose the actual garage door needs it too but, not my problem, hubby can deal with that.
The contractor will be working on the back deck next week installing slate because we have to cover the holes they dug in the deck to fix the foundation and re-cemented. Looks horrible with the big cement patches in the exposed pebble that was there.
When we finally get done we can begin to worry about little stuff like we have no furniture.

Evenin' all! Glad the house is on the way to completion Tami, just in time for June and the start of the new hurricane season...

i've been having fun - had to buy a new car at Easter when my old one died and had to be towed off, so being a creature of habit (or perseverance), i just got a newer version of the same thing; 11 years newer. Never have i driven such a contraption with mirrors that light up, rear view cameras, and worst of all HRH's phone that plugs directly into the thing and gives me directions on a dashboard screen in a female voice with an American accent, which i purposely ignore since it's uncannily like wife #1!
i have a long-standing dislike of phones, which may be odd for a guy that uses a computer all day at work, but in any event, my phone - one with a slide out keyboard no less and cost $24 (which i think was $8 too much), has also had to be replaced, if for no other reason than to fix the annoying GPS issue.

All of which makes collecting mods look like a cheap little pastime in comparison. Best wishes to you all especially weightwatcher of the year there in Oz!

The terrace is slowly turning into a jungle! Had a brief but really heavy rain that drowned the whole neighborhood. Turns out the city council people were on the payroll of some contractors. The drainage system of the streets is not functioning, and the inclination of the streets is totally screwed up. Many ground floor flats drowned in water and wastewater. we dont have a separate drainage system for water, because they say it rarely rains in Egypt. So we use the wastewater system instead. But it appears they didn’t build it with sufficient capacity for both rainfall and household use.

End result. All basements and garages were totally flooded and the cars down there were drowned. The unlucky people with ground floor duplexes consisting of the ground floor and a basement drowned as well...and it was not just rain water!

All the city officials are in court now. But we have no clue how they’re going to compensate the people (if at all), and nobody has any clue how they are going to fix the situation.

My home remodel/repair/fixin's haven't been happening for a little while now. It is secondary to when there's leather work to be done (or leatherworking ideas that need exploring). Mostly secondary because the house will still be here whenever I get to it; but if there's a wee job with the leather (or an idea to flesh out), that's usually time sensitive.

so, no housy work; but been doing some leather stuff.

I made that vape bag for Elaine .. .

I started messing around with "inking" (using the leather dye like ink, with dip-pens/nibs, and a bit like watercolors)

This became a cellphone case slash wallet . ..

and then I did a tri-fold wallet.
. . . lots of pockets n' slots.
Trying to stay very refined and pack a lot of features without losing slimness . ..
(this is with the English Kip leather . . . very, very nice stuff)

I'm actually going to get back into remodel stuff, pro'ly tomorrow.
(also/but have impending some restoration work on an old Mahogany front door for a contractor friend).

But, if I find some time, I'd like to try and ink up an idea I've got brewing.
This would also fit well with a tri-fold wallet.
I have initial "sketches" and color ideas based on a small Rose of Sharon we have in the back yard, that I was gazing at while having my coffee .. .

40785080975_ba093b764f_z.jpg

just roughing out the idea, and experimenting with various pens and techniques.
not refined yet.

But then I thought of I how I want to do the 3 main stems a little differently, and scribbled it on paper, just so's I'd remember . . .and then I thought "mirror" . . . and then I thought "wallet" . . .and then I thought "tri-fold" (cause I was working on tri-fold)

40785084725_acbb84c865_b.jpg

. . . and so, yeah, I'm liking where I'm imagining this going.
I think I might just practice and refine a bit more, and then ink this for reals on an appropriate size piece of leather, and make the wallet with it when a wallet is called for (thusly, laying out the interior per custom specs).

26807946947_1d4254f30f_b.jpg

so, yeah, no house progress.
been keeping up with the exercise stuff tho :thumb:
had some pretty sweet elbow pain from joints trying to keep up with muscle; but I went easy for a bit, did some reverse Tyler Twists, and I'm full speed ahead now.

Sometimes people fail to think about all the human and "other" waste in flood waters. For us it was every single overflowed septic for 75 miles upstream and then compound that with all the chemicals kept in everyone's garage and under the kitchen sink.
The stench was overpowering especially after it sat for more than 6 days and steeped. It smelled like chit til January in the whole county.
