0.4 ohm single coil twisted chain

Hey Everyone,

It has been a while since I posted on the forums. Been vaping away like a champ and wanted to show off a sub ohm coil I built.
For this build I decided to try something new I always sub ohm and I have been building my own coils since my day 1 of vaping. This time around I wanted to try something a little more complex. I wish I did this as a dual coil setup to get the ohms down to about 0.2 but since it was my first attempt I stuck with a single.

This coil is what is called a twisted chain. In order to build it you need a drill. The general idea is to make 2 twisted wires then reverse twist those 2 wires together to make a chain effect. This increases surface area and increases vapor production but it does have a bit of a ramp up. As always use good batteries especially with chain coils as the first few pulses till you get it aligned will short. Basically what happens is the coil chains short on themselves until alignment is just right.

Now for the wicked pic of this beast. I build this with 26 ga. kanthal as I am out of nichrome wire. With 26 ga. nichrome the coil will be around 0.2 single. 5 wraps around a 3/32 drill bit. Sorry pics are not the best used my phone. Flavor is very good off this single coil. The pic of the fire is a bit bland the battery was not a full battery puts out much more fresh.

did your wire turn into a triangle as twisted messes did a vid of, i made a dual yesterday of the triangle wire at about 0.1ohm, 2mm id, 3or 4 wraps but i like less wire, i may have to try it but flatten in the wire to shave back the outer diametar, this is the vid i think you copied?>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWHrWCAn28I

That was my intention and the video I used to learn how to do it love Twisted vids wish he made them more often. I ran into a issue with the coiling probably due to using a super old drill or maybe not enough tension where the wire wanted to wave before it started to triangle. So I stopped and left it at a Twisted Chain V1 he has a video of that as well. I really did not want to have to start all over again. When my nichrome wire comes in I will try my hand at a V2 again. I find the nichrome is actually softer so it tends to cooperate better in these applications.

The outer diamater as you said is a big issue with the coil had a tough time getting it away from the top cap in my Dark Horse. I was thinking of maybe trying either a 5/64 drill bit instead to bring it in that extra hair or just using 28 ga instead. Not quite sure I really like this coil it seems to leave lots of room for experimentation.
