I made a post on another forum I frequent, and broke down what my vaping costs me. I'd like to put it up here and see you guys do similar cost breakdowns. I started with the assumption that I get to keep my knowledge, but lose every scrap of vape gear I own, and then am forced to resupply to last the next 365 days.

Here's the post:

Okiedoke, here's the deal:

I just posted in the stop smoking thread that vaping costs me 1/20th of what smoking did. I realized afterwards that I have no idea how much my vaping actually costs, and just pulled that number right out of my ..., so I'm going to use this post to document how much vaping for the next 365 days would cost me if I lost every scrap of vaping gear I own. All of my estimates are on the high side, so actual costs will be lower.

My consumption:

I use at most 8ml of 6mg 75pg 25vg juice per day. That breaks down to 48mg of nic, 6ml of pg, and 2ml of vg per day. I use about 10% flavouring per volume as well.

$50-365 ml of 48mg nic juice (buying 500ml, I know there's better deals out there too)
$30-2190 ml of pg (buying 4000 ml)
$15-730 ml of vg (buying 1000 ml)
$50-300ml flavouring (buying 12oz=354ml)

I also think I need 2 lavatubes, but one will break, so call it 3. I'll also need 10 batteries at most, and a good 4 bay charger. I also probably average 2 cartos per week, at most 3. Call it 125 for the year, so 25 5-packs. I can make a lifetime supply of tanks for about $50, so I'll just add the $50. Call it another $50 for DIY mixing supplies/bottles etc.

$150-3 lavatubes
$80-10 18650 batts
$175-25 boxes of cartos
$50-Tank making supplies
$50-Juice mixing supplies (bottles, syringes, etc).

So that's $650 to get everything that I need for the next year. Compare that to the 2x$10 packs I used to smoke ($7300), and it looks pretty good. $650/365=$1.78.

My (heavy) vaping costs me $1.78 per day. Most of my estimates are probably 25% high or so, and with the products I bought there's probably another 25% left over for next year, so I'd bet that the actual cost is under $1.50/day.

There. Glad I got that out of my system.

Edit: Just realized I forgot the charger, so add $35 to my total for a good 4-bay batt charger.

I showed you mine, now you show me yours.

Personally .. I try not to think about money at the moment. I don't want vaping to be a hobby, I don't want to buy every mod or carry around a "dildo"/"light saber" everywhere - I just know I'm more addicted to the habit/ritual than the nicotine and I have an anxious personality.

No offensive to anyone that likes mods by the way - I'm just amused by how many times I've read those visual references and personally I want something EGO sized or smaller for work and going out for the day. I will probably end up with a larger mod/tank for home use though.

I *know* vaping is costing me more in the short term - although it's been a year since my first kit, I've only *officially* stopped smoking completely for a little over month.

For me .. I will get discouraged if I do the math, but in my head I think that; $6 (nasty cheap cigarettes) x 30 days = $180. So if I aim to spend around that, I won't think about how much I'm actually spending and will focus on the not smoking, more than the money for the time being.

What drives me insane is making $50-100 orders and spending 10-20% on shipping. I can't wait for the day when I've found the hardware and juices I like and can buy in bulk every 3-6 months.

Well, I seem to be paying too much, that's for sure! Though I'm like Chagrin, I'm not really watching what I spend, I'm only a couple months in and am going through the usual "growing pains", but finally starting to make bulk-er orders.

Everything seems to cost more once you pass the Rockies though, and I will always buy local before I buy out of province. All estimates and I'm rounding. Still have things I want, but pretty settled in with what I need. One bonus seems to be free expedited shipping on orders over 50 from just about every vendor here, so I wait until I have enough on the list and generally get my order within 2 days of hitting "checkout". Yay local.

I've estimated the DIY bulks will last me at least 6 months, closer to 8 but 6 is my baseline here.

250ml @ 48 50/50 : 45$
500ml USP VG: 15$
Lavatube + 2 batteries: 70$
Vivi nova (3 heads) : 15$
assorted flavourings*8 13mL : 40$
random DIY supplies (bottles, syringes, etc) : 25$
spare vivi tank (not bought yet): 15$
spare vivi heads (not bought yet)*5: 15$
Total
240ish$

All in all, on current set up, for 6 months, 1.44/day. Side by side to analogues that run for 11/pack, I am not terribly concerned with over spending. I could close my eyes and randomly click items and probably not spend as much as I was on tobacco.

Vivi heads I'll probably be rebuilding once I have more so I can risk breaking one or two heads.

I'd love another LT and more batteries, will be buying more recommended batteries (rather than what came with the tube)when I can, have to source them so cost unknown.

Pretty sure I'll be getting more flavouring, even if I don't need it I want to experiment. I'll happily vape flavourless though.

I'm also putting money aside for an epipemod.

*ed: wups, forgot to add that I found a local supplier for amber glass bottles/jars, and smaller cobalt bottles, so will be hitting them up on the weekend and spending maybe 20$ on stuff.

I vape 6mg flavorless, 70-30 PG/VG, using 3.0ohm Cisco atomizers which last me on average 2 months each, so:

Nic: $32.50 for 120ml (includes shipping cost) lasts 6 months: $5.41/month
Cisco atomizers: $34.62 for 3 atomizers (includes shipping) lasts me 6 months: $5.77/month
VG/PG: $37.96 for 250ml of each (includes shipping) lasts me 6 months: $6.32/month

So my daily total works out to: $0.58/day

Smoking used to cost me $8.50 per day

Going flavorless was the best decision I made since quitting cigarette and beginning to vape.

It takes some getting used to, but for me it took a few days and I was hooked. No longer do I scratch my head trying to figure out what I'm going to vape today, no worries about steeping, or running out of my favorite juice, no spending ridiculous amounts of money on juice that I'll get sick of within a month, attys and cartos last a lot longer...

I see it as one less thing to be addicted to and it'll make quitting eventually that much less difficult :)

I don't want to get off topic, but how is vaping flavourless working out for you? Sounds nasty, but probably healthier.

I don't know how some of you are vaping upwards of 8ml a day but I guess it's just like smoking in that respect as I could never understand when somebody would say they smoked like 4 packs a day. I can vape all day at high wattage on my ProVari and still only use 2ml. A typical workday is probably 1ml or less as I don't vape much during those days.

I'm too early into it to say what it is costing me a day as I'm still figuring out what juices I like, but I know my cost is dropping each week and I'm ordering less and less. It's pretty much just buying cartos and juice from here on out unless a Z-atty-pro finally becomes available for sale again.

I'd say per week I'll wind up at a pretty low cost per day just because I don't vape a ton of juice each day and the cartos are dirt cheap. If anything gets me it'll be that I've been vaping pretty high cost stuff as I try to figure out what I like.

I don't even want to go there but I will.

I've done extremely well on juice with friends giving me some DIY. While "free" the effects / taste goes from the sublime to the disgusting. On the other hand I've recently received my first Juggy's order and the quality is better than the hype at a totally fair price.

Any money saved has been re-invested in a Lava tube (# 1) then a Twist (# 2) and now a Provari V2 (# 3). Show my next purchase will be a Z Atty P, a Scubabatdan Spartan, then a Zen Standard and a Hellfire Mega.

So you can see why a per day Vaping cost would be pointless.

I DON"T CARE :) My only goal is to stay off the stinkies!!!!

I understand your intellectual interest, and vaping is "probably" cheaper than smoking, but the simple joy of being able to be with my friends and family at all times, rather than stepping out for a smoke, outweighs any $$ considerations.

You eventually reach a point when you don't even think of vaping as a way of keeping off cigarettes anymore, in fact you can't even remember yourself as being a smoker. It's a great feeling, but that's also when you realize vaping has become a whole new addiction, and as with any addiction you try to keep it under control and minimize the cost.

Of course I'm only speaking for myself :)

Agree :) I know that I am addicted to nicotine, so be it. If I was younger, I might have thoughts of trying to beat it, but at my age I just view it like a lot of other things I wish were different. I just have to adapt and get along and enjoy life to it's fullest :)

lately I have been purchasing batteries and such for the way they look, and checking out the newer clear atomizers.. (fail) and stocking up on replaceables for the c, new cones color because I bought new batteries..wanted to try the 510 t on my mini..lol..went nuts...PLUS my husband started up again after quitting..so liquid use is also up there and I have used that disruption to my ordering schedule as an excuse to add a "toy" here and there...so I just figured out that I have been averaging $2.03 per day each. This reflects high spending for us. Now that I am happy with my new new atty models and my pretty batteries the spending will drop back down...we usually ave less than $1 a day each, including the cost of all replacement equipment.

In your shoes I'd do the exact same thing! :) In my case I have a 1 month old son, so the only room I'm only allowed to vape in is my office and it's beginning to be reminiscent of that situation you described, leaving friends and family to go outside for a smoke.

I'm still in the early days of my vaping, so the added expense of buying devices and trying juice flavours has really inflated my spending. While smoking, I was blowing about $65 a month buying cartons on the reserve for $32 a pop.

Once my spending evens out, it will be hard to drop that much on juice and upkeep alone.
