I am looking to get into DIY, and i see nothing but warnings against 100mg nicotine.

Is this due to the danger of the product or the danger of the product when mishandled.
Because if i understand correctly it seems like 100mg would be the easiest to get the desired nic level.

Can anyone explain this to me?

I think that its just like be careful. Yes it is strong so it's like you need to drink less to kill yourself. However from an article I just read recently it seems you would barf before getting to the point where you could. I worry more about children and pets. But then the same would apply.

Treat it like you would paint thinner or bleach or drano and you will be fine. I have use 48mg nic and 100mg I do prefer the 100 even though its not really much cheaper. Vendors charge for the nic more than the PG/VG it's delivered in. I worked out one recipe and the cost difference in a 30ml bottle was like $0.05, yep a nickle.

I have a question regarding a 100mg bottle I got in Aug. I recently opened it and was wondering if its supposed to have a scent. Its a bit yellow. THe strongest Ive ordered before was 48mg.

SOrry I hope Im not hijacking the thread, but its exactly what I was going to post and saw this and figured why have 2 threads on the same subject.

Im hoping that it is still good to use before I mix anything up. Thanks

Please use gloves when you're handling 100 mg nic. This stuff can be absorbed through the skin, and the human body doesn't have a way to get rid of it quickly. i.e, if you drink too much alcohol, you can vomit, but you've got to ride out a nic overdose.

I've never had a problem mixing with it, but I always go a little overboard with safety when the cap is off. All the anti-vaping advocates need is a few cases of overdose to be up in arms and get regulations coming. Like Bigdaddio said, treat it like poison. It doesn't smell like candy, so I don't see a kid drinking it, but even spilling it on their skin would be bad.

When it comes to the 100mg/ml base, you should always be wearing gloves when handling it, no exceptions. It's a chemical and it is also a poison, especially in such high concentration. It's not dangerous if you take precaution. That being said, honestly, anything above 36mg/ml should be handled in the same exact way; with gloves.

PG/VG absorbs into the skin pretty quickly and with that, the nicotine. A drop or so isn't going to hurt you, but you should be cautious at all times because when it comes to a spill or perhaps the lid leaks (I've had it happen plenty of times), you're going to get more than a drop on you and unless you act quick and wash it off, it's going to soak in.

Treat it as you would any unknown chemical; prepare for the worst and keep kids and pets away from it, period. I wouldn't even mix my juice in the same room as either, just to prevent possible issues and I don't feel that's being overly cautious, it's just being smart.

As for concentration in general, 100mg/ml is going to result in less use and more PG/VG usage. Since PG/VG is the cheaper of the 3 primary ingredients, I always order 100mg/ml.

NIC may have a slight nicotine oder and tinting of the liquid is normal after time. If it has an overly strong smell then there may be a problem but a slight sent is OK. To help preserve freshness if you plan on storing it for a long period put it in the freezer.

there's always a danger when using this product but that usually is when the product is mishandled or mixed incorrectly. Just use the proper precautions and you'll be fine.

Thanks Danny, was making sure. I always hear that nic should be clear (when new) and rather odorless, so I wanted to make sure it was not a bad batch as Ive heard mention on other threads.

I just got a fresh bottle the other day that has an amber tinge and slight sent to it and it's perfectly OK.

Did you get this from myfreedomsmokes?

I think a lot of it has to do with the legal stuff every website and dealer has to publish and display. Mostly stuff to indemnify them against possibly lawsuits. So you go and buy 240ml of 100mg nicotine and decide that if inhaling is good an enema must be better! Your survivors could come back to the supplier, and possibly even this website saying no one warned lil Jimmy that he shouldn't do that. We all see this on a regular basis and get a little shakey about it.

Yes Nicotine is a poison, yes it is addictive. This doesn't stop the government allowing 12 year olds to work with it on farms even though they get absorption through the skin. The stuff has a less than two hour half-life in your body. They now believe that the toxicity levels that the medical community uses are too low, since they are based on tests from before the Civil War. Then again the stuff I read could be flawed as well. Alcohol is probably more poisonous and definitely causes more deaths.

I am not telling you to be lax and uncaring, just treat it like you would almost any other toxic substance you have in your home.

I'm looking into starting to DYI myself and am putting my supply list together. I want to get 100mg for a lot of the same reasons posted already. Price, space and easy of mixing. I've been concerned about the hazards too. My wife and I are helping her cousin get back on her feet after a divorce while she goes to nursing school. She has a 6yr old and I don't want to have it in the house for fear he might get his little hands on it. If it spilled on his clothes I'm sure it'd be fatal.

I've got a buddy that vapes too and we've agreed to store and mix at his house. I'm not worries about ratios as I plan on testing the base after adding the nic to verify the mg. But my last concern that I've seen is the vapors when mixing. How much ventilation is need when mixing higher concentrations?

Aslo are there any threads that have a good supply list for people getting started?

I have a freezer lock on my tiny little chest freezer. It's in the basement and the kids don't go down there much, but I figured better safe than sorry. I have a smaller 'working' bottle I keep in a locking cash box on a high shelf in my closet.

As far as the fumes... I mix in my bathroom with the door closed and I've never experienced any problems. I make sure that I keep the bottle of nic open for the shortest amount of time possible. I make sure I know the measurement I need and have the correct syringe to measure it before I open the bottle. I get the amount needed out and recap the bottle immediately, mostly to prevent spills but makes sense to do it if you are worried about fumes as well. I don't think that pg and vg are particularly volatile at room temperature, so it's not like fumes are going to fill the room. But in the name of safety I'll say do as I say and not as I do, and recommend that you work in a more ventilated area if possible. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have more ventilation, but I don't think you need to invest in a fume hood or gas mask or anything.

Probably all nic has a little scent. I stay away from- chemically smells, sweatsock smell, and perfumey. Maybe mix 10ml at your vaping level and see how it is then. It'll probably clear up and smell less.

If you can, fill a carto up and vape it straight- should be pleasant tasting with almost zero aroma.

Personally, there are very few suppliers here that I would trust enough to just put the bottle in storage w/o opening to test first.

Vapors are not really a concern. The average home has enough natural ventilation so it should really not be a problem. There are very little to no fumes with these chemicals.
