Didn't look to hard, But are there any mods that would simply plug into a 12 volt outlet and step down?
I really spend much of my time in a vehicle, and batteries are a hassle. Life would be much easier on the road if I could find a variable mod that would plug in and use the car charging system instead of a small battery that needs recharging. Also would be more compact to hold other than a wire going to a (oh the irony) cigarette lighter.
I'm sure commercial drivers would love something like that too.

Anyone saw anything like that?

Idk if I'd have paid $80 for it, but I snagged it on ebay for $15 brand new. Lol. Jumped right on that one.

You lucked out! I just checked and the lowest price I see is $59. I'm tempted to build my own now. I have a spare BEC that can take 12VDC in and output 4.8VDC @ 7A
continuous. My Cool Fire 1 is regulated at 8W so that would be plenty of current for it :)

Yep. The drv maxes out at 6.0 volts. I almost wish it did a little more. Lol
