If I win the lottery, I'm gonna build a house and install my own lift in the garage. I could buy all these parts myself and do the repair work myself for half the price.

It would be fun if you had a lift and all of the equipment! :)

My daughter went to the CA DMV to register her car. They want her to pay California sales tax on her car, but she will get credited for the NY sales tax she's already paid. That's because she has owned the car less than a year before first registering it in CA. If she waited ten days, she would have been clear.

That's nuts!

That's the state trying to protect their tax revenue. They don't want residents crossing the border to another state and paying less taxes and then bringing the car back and using it in California . For example, if you drive to Oregon and buy a car there, you would pay zero sales tax. This way, there is no benefit in buying a car out of state.

Yep, we have that here. We can go shopping in Oregon but if we buy a car or a large appliance we have to pay Washington State taxes on it.

Yeah, that stupid emissions test is what's hurting us. It's gonna cost us more than Jim's truck is valued at to do the repairs to get it to pass. SUCKAGE!!!!
Yeah it is!! We don't have to pay emissions in Grays Harbor, thank goodness. Our registration laws got changed a few years back so we don't have to pay a whole lot for registatration, but it is SUPPOSED to only be $30 a year and it's over double that now. It used to be a lot worse, though. Oregon is really cheap. It's about $30 for 2 years!

They call it use tax. If you buy it from out of state but "use" it within the state, you have to pay use tax, which is the same rate as sales tax. Almost every state has use tax on the books, but it is nearly impossible to enforce it, so almost no one pays it. The taxpayer has to be the one to disclose to the state their out of state purchases. With cars, since you have to register it, it is easier for the state to catch it.

Did you do the return yourself? Have you filed it yet? You shouldn't be hit with the penalty as it only applies if you did not have insurance for longer than 3 consecutive months. Anything under is considered temporary and you are exempt for that period.

If you've already filed, you can always amend your return.

They considered it an "underpayment," which makes zero sense. I reported our income correctly and reported changes along the way, so I don't get it. We actually did look better on paper than we were last year, though. It all went south after April, lol. My husband changed jobs several times and I was on unemployment for 4 months and then had no income. We were NOT in a position to pay even the $461 we were paying a month, much less another $1800+ for those 5 months. I am thinking about amending it to have them drop December, though, which will give us back another $300. I actually had to call the healthcare exchange yesterday and have them remove us from the program. We keep getting bills for the months I haven't paid. They were as shocked as I was. That "insurance" should have been dropped the second I didn't make December's payment but for some reason it didn't end. How dumb is that? I had to go through Premera AND the Washington Healthcare Exchange to get it dropped! Once I get the confirmation for that I will probably file and amendment.

It was from some Mexican Fusion place. I haven't had a real fish taco in years.

What's Mexican Fusion? I got the one I just had from a new little Mexican place here. Very authentic and delicious. My daughter works at a Greek restaurant and I always get the fish gyros when I go there, too. That's actually my favorite meal on the planet at the moment. Fish, mozzarella, lettuce and tzatziki sauce. Yerm.

Yep, and catch it they do! I am okay with that, but I am 100% against having to pay state sales tax online. I freaking hate that.

Put it up on the rack in John's new shop! :D
We have two...one that lives in the garage for the front yard....one stays out back on the deck taped under the overhang. Do you think either would co-operate? Finally got the little one out front to kick in!

Edit...*tarped, not taped

We have two also. One is a push mower and one is a riding mower. Neither one of them act right. My husband is the only one who can get the riding mower to work and that one needs new blades BAD. It leaves a nice mohawk down the middle of the path he's cutting, lol.

This makes no sense at all. If you did not have insurance for more than 3 months of the year, you are subject to a penalty. The penalty is the greater of 2 percent of your income, or $325 per adult, and $162.50 per child under 18 in your household and it is capped at the national average premium for a bronze level health plan available through the federal exchange (which is $207 per month per individual). If you were only without insurance for the months of June and December, you should not be subject to the penalty at all. And assuming that it was just you and your husband, the maximum penalty would be just $650, unless your household income was greater than $43,100 for the year, in which case the 2% of your income would be higher. If they are charging you 1,800 as a penalty, that would mean your household income was $110,600 for the year.
