I bought it in Cali registered it in GA cause it was cheaper ;)
We'll be keeping ours registered in Pahrump, NV. Little rural town on the CA NV border, cheeeaaaaap registration there.
I could get it registered as my farm vehicle in GA cause I have 200+ acres in my name lol

My daughter went to the CA DMV to register her car. They want her to pay California sales tax on her car, but she will get credited for the NY sales tax she's already paid. That's because she has owned the car less than a year before first registering it in CA. If she waited ten days, she would have been clear.

That's the state trying to protect their tax revenue. They don't want residents crossing the border to another state and paying less taxes and then bringing the car back and using it in California . For example, if you drive to Oregon and buy a car there, you would pay zero sales tax. This way, there is no benefit in buying a car out of state.

Not to mention that CA also charges you a property tax based on the value of your car when you register your car and renew it each year. So the cost to register your car can be several hundred dollars each year.

The last time I purchased and registered a car in California, it was a brand new Toyota 4Runner. The sticker price was about 30k and the first year car registration was over $250. Each year when I reregistered the car, the fee dropped by about $20 to account for the drop in value of the car.

I think once the car is over 5 years old, then the property tax goes away and you just pay the registration fee which is around $36(?) a year.
