The technical poop on a pretty crappy charger => Review of Charger TrustFire TR-001

The current version does have a 3.0/3.6v switch setting.

"...it will keep the voltage of the battery at 3.6 volt and the batter will first drop to about 3.4 volt when removed from the charger."

"I do not like chargers that continues to charger, but it can be used as long as the battery is removed within a few hours after the led changes to green." (It does not cutoff current at the completion of the charge cycle. This is the kind of charger that results in "never leave your charged batteries in the charger" mythology. Except in this case it's not a myth - it's true.)

All that, and the positively exhausting charge times for 18650 batteries.

FYI - That 1st quote is for the 3.0 volt setting (LiFePO4) not the 3.6 volt setting.

It basically says:
Charge voltage is about 4.23 volt for 3.6V setting
Charge voltage is about 3.65 volt for 3.0V setting

Where the hell is the OP with that switch setting???????

That's my backup. Along with the crank-n-charge emergency radio. All wrapped in foil to protect from EMP, and aliens. Or maybe that only works for hats. IDK.

I made a faraday cadge for my company I-Phone when they made us install a tracking app. Sometimes they ask why dose my phone go blank for extended periods of time;-)

Kinda silly I send them a picture of what work my crew gets completed everyday. Some brain child of some corporate dept or another, spent all of that money on tracking software to make sure we are doing our job then some dumb construction worker defeats it with a card board box and some tinfoil;-)

Dang! I just bought 2 brand X's from Joe's place, he assured me they were better then yours................

Brand Z from Bill's place are way better than the crappy X's from Joe.

But seriously, I know what attypops means, people trash the Trustfire TR-001 all the time. I have one, bought it in Dec 2012, certainly not the fastest thing around, but it has never given me any problems, and the batteries always tested at 4.18 to 4.19. I did buy the Jetbeam 2013 i4 Pro, mainly because it is quicker and can charge up to four batteries at a time. I also recieved a Sanyo battery charger with a V8 kit that charges only 18350's. I now use the i4, and keep the other two for backups, but when I did use them, they worked as intended.

Other than a pair of unbranded 18350's that came with the V8, all my batteries are Efest. Not an AW in the house. And no Provari in sight either, no gold and silver plated diamond encrusted titanium mech either, just a Sig #8. Hard to believe my stuff hasn't self destructed and taken out the entire block, especially considering I have a few Fasttech juice delivery systems. I just refuse to move on from the stone age I guess.

Uuuhhhhh DURRRRRR. Okay so there was a switch that lets you change it from 3.0v and 3.6v. I wish they would change up the model numbers with upgrades. I went back and read all the literature I had on my charger and it was for the older models without the switch.

So having found the switch and having switched it to 3.6v. My EFest battery charged up to 4.14v and my AW charged up to 4.18. I kept a close eye on the charger while it was charging and noticed that it buzzed while the light was red and was a little warm (never got HOT). I left one battery on the charger while the light was green for about 2 hours and the charger was cool to the touch.

I probably wont use this charger once the XTAR comes in but maybe it isnt a POS after all? I may keep it for a back up instead of throwing it off my balcony. Thanks everyone for the input and getting me to this point of tranquility.

Yeah... Maybe it was the e-Cigarettes Gods way of getting you to Buy a Backup for your Charger. Because Now you have Two Good Chargers.

Glad that Everything Worked out in the End.
