I would trash it also - Trustfire and Ultrafire brands have been mentioned as brands to avoid. Just comparing the prices leads a person to believe they are not a good battery - some tests indicate they are never up to spec regarding mah ratings and if it bubbles like that after 1 charge would scare me

what brand charger are you using? never leave any battery like this in a charger unattended or overnight

The blistered shrink tubing that covers the battery may have been caused by overheating. I'd wouldn't use it anymore.

Do you happen to know what kind of battery this is (ICR or IMR, protected or not)? All I can see is a brand name. What device were you using it with.

Quality IMR batteries are not protected and an excellent choice for PVs.

Definitely do not use that!!! Can you imagine how damaging that can be if it were to explode? Acid hurts and not in a good way!

If you just got this, I would let the vendor know so they have a chance to correct the issue. But I would definitely go with a battery brand that has a better reputation like the ones hvac999 suggested. Those are the ones I use too. Oh, and I use a nitecore charger like this one: https://www.fasttech.com/products/1...ore-i2-lithium-li-ion-ni-mh-ni-cd-smart-batte

Sorry about your battery :(

Trustfire only makes a protected battery to my knowledge. I used to use them in a BB until I had one go into thermal runaway. I don't use them anymore for this reason. Many here on ECF have a saying -- Never trust a battery with the name "fire" in it.

Trustfire2.jpg Protected Trustfire battery that went into thermal runaway.

Never use the un-branded batteries that some vendors include with their mod kits. Spend a few more bucks on better quality batteries such as Panasonic, AW, Sanyo, or Efest. Don't skimp on the charger either. Pila, Nitecore, and Xtar are the better quality brand names.

Trustfire does make unprotected batteries. I had to be careful NOT to buy Trustfire unprotected ICR 14650 for my E-Power 14650. I used the Trustfire Blue protected 14650 and found it to be fine battery for that particular mod. I also used E-fest IMR 14650.

With the Sigelei Zmax I'm using now I use E-fest IMRs which are not protected. AW is another good IMR brand and it can produce more current than the E-Fests.
