HI there. I recently purchased the Kanger Subtank Mini and the Kanger Subtank Plus. I like both but I'm somewhat new to vaping and I'm trying to figure out which coils are compatible with these 2 units. I see some I buy are vertical and others are horizontal. I've had a lot of out of the box problems with both that I've bought. So much so I'm thinking about buying yet a 4th tank that is not Kanger so I don't have to deal with their crappy coils that are half DOA out of the box. One says 5G and the other says 5D on the side of the 2 I bought. I'm trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be buying for these units. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @theargonaut33 and welcome to the forum. It is quite possible you have gotten the rare bad set of coils. The 5D is probably the batch number. Both tanks will take the same coils. They make a new .5 and 1.5 ohm Vertical coil, and you can probably still find the old .5 and 1.2 horizontal coils. I have a few of the Subtanks mini's and not had an issue since I started making my own coils and using the rba that came with the tank. If you're not doing this I would recommend it. It's really easy to make a quality coil on the rba in no time at all, check you tube for a video. It's also much cheaper to make your own coils.

Good luck in your journey.

I've been putting off looking into using the RBA but I think it's time to do so. Thank you! If you have any recommended video that you have seen in the past, please pass along. Thanks!

I watched a coil building video for the Kuro Koiler a coiling jig that is very helpful. I got mine on Fasttech for $7.

I also use this steam engine :http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp?r=0.5&awg=24&id=2 You input the desired "target resistance", "inner diameter" (size you spin the wire around-2.5 mm is probably my average, but I am experimenting with larger and smaller), and wire size "awg", and "type of wire" (Kanthal A1 is most common for non temp control coils). I currently have 24, 26, and 28, awg Kanthal wire (usually $3 a small spool).

I've used multiple sources for wire and cotton - amazon, almost all vape stores carry some too. Koh Gen Do is Japanese cotton that is popular.

The RBA for the Subtank is the way to go, and easy to build on.
