I'm going to go against the majority here and point out that you can't really go wrong with egos.
(Yes, I know all you guys have a 'thing' about 'big manly tools' but give me a chance to explain. LOL!)
I know you said money wasn't your first consideration (good thinking on that) but ego batteries are pretty cheap. They're smaller and more discrete (might come in handy at times). (Also, the smaller it is, the less likely you are to bang it up.) I've dropped mine a bazillion times and never had a problem. And they hang nicely on a lanyard.
They are versatile. They have both the ego and 510 threading so almost anything fits. They're readily available (most stores carry them).
And if your wife is also interested in quitting, you can always pass them on to her if/when you move up to a more 'manly' device. I've found most women (maybe because we're generally smaller) prefer smaller devices. And you can get some really pretty ones. They come in different sizes (from the 'mini' 350 mAh - which are adorable and can be hidden in your hand - up to 1300 mAh) differing only in length.
As for the 'cough when inhaling' - the above posters are correct in suggesting to draw the vapor into your mouth and then inhale (along with additional air). But what I usually do is inhale air along with the vapor. In other words, my lips don't close tightly around the mouthpiece when I inhale so I'm bringing in regular air at the same time. (I smoked cigarettes this way too.) It seems more like 'real' smoking (IMHO).
Best of luck to you. And thank you for your service to our country!
