Hi everyone I am trying to make the switch to vape. I bought one of those vape store starter kits. And I would like any ideas on. Better starter kit. Any advise on how much nicotine should I get in my ejuice. And any advise in making the switch. And a reliable website to purchase the starter kit.

Thanks in advance

Welcome :)

Starter kits are usually cartomizer models (look like a plastic cigarette) or refillable with a tank/clearomizer.

2 packs a day is probably quite a bit of Nicotine, depending on brand. I never got above 1 pack, and started on 24mg. These days 24mg would be considered maybe a little high, as the hardware is so much better (better = more powerful = more nicotine).

Having said that, I'd still go in on a higher strength liquid - too little and you will really notice.

I pretty much was smoking 2 packs a day and I Started vaping a few days ago. It's working very well for me. I started with the juice a 4mg nic level. I know thats a lot lower that a lot of others that have started vaping. I puff on it a lot, but its better than smoking. The best advice I can give you is to not have your old cigs near you. Its more temping. The first few days i would pick up my pack and smoke one and not even realize I did it until I was done, then I Would be mad at myself. Now The urge to is gone (from habit) but I still want one here and there, but I just use the vape instead. The cravings go away pretty quickly. Good luck!

I was a pack + (under 2 packs) smoker.

What I did was I had maybe a pack of cigarettes when I first started vaping. I smoked like 4-5 cigarettes the first day. 3 the second. Etc, until the pack was gone. It made the transition easier for me. I started on like 18mg/mL liquid.

It kinda sucks the first few days but if you vape everytime you want a cigarette you will transition. Then after a few months the cravings become less and less. Best wishes!

https://www.mtbakervapor.com/electronic-cigarette-starter-kits/ You can also get some juices to try at a reasonable price. I would start around 18mg. The real secret (at least it was for me) is to find a juice that really fits you. Tobacco flavors just made me want a cig so I got stuck on fruit flavors. I would suggest a sample pack of flavors until you find what you like

Hello and welcome to the forum @Vape Ross Vape. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:
Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

I was 2+ packs a day when I started vaping almost 2 years ago. I smoked a lite cigarette and I started with 18mg. You need to make sure that you have backups for both the battery and the clearomizer. You want to make sure that you have extra coils as well. You need to make sure that you do not run out of anything otherwise you are going to go off and buy some cigarettes. I took a month to switch from all cigs to no cigs. Had a plan to cut out cigarettes during a given part of the day and replace it with vaping. Sort of like first week I stopped smoking on work breaks and did only vaping. I spent a lot of money at the beginning trying out different juices. I got rid of the starter kit after the first month and went with something better. I would suggest that you stay away from the sub-ohm stuff until you are ready for it. Most smokers are mouth to lungers and I would go with something that simulates that. Once you actually quit smoking, you can try whatever you like. Big thing is to actually quit first. I made vaping a hobby as well as a quit smoking aid. Most people on these forums have done the same. Costs a lot but it got me to stop thinking about smoking. Good luck.

If I were you I would experiment buy two bottles of the same juice one at 24mg and the other at 18mg. Start with either and find the level that seems to work better for you. I have read most of the replies on this thread, a lot of good ideas but what will get you through is a little will power combined with vaping. I wouldn't worry if your vape gear never left your hand for the first week or so, I have found I vape more than I ever smoked anyway (at times). Combined with vaping read as much as you can there is much to learn. I smoked for 45yrs and have been vaping for almost two years, I use a Reo Grand, it's a mech mod, I make my own coils and unflavoured ejuice, 6mg, because I vape Mouth to Lung (MTL) not Direct lung Inhale (DLI) other wise I would vape 3mg.

I'm using the joyetech evic vt 60w running a aspire triton tank ( believe they label this as clearomizers ). works fine but really depends on your budget plus I am fairly new so I haven't really bought anything else. as far as nic content goes i'd suggest starting fairly low and going up as I found it 6mg was too strong for me so I had to cut it down to 3mg and I used to be half a pack to a pack a day. I still can smoke a pack a day but vaping is a whole new experience compared to smoking. I still smoke and I find vaping gives a stronger throat hit then smoking a cig when I do smoke a cig it feels fairly weak. you will probably want to go with 50/50 pg/vg or 60/40 pg/vg. tried 99% vg without knowing great vapor production flavor wise not very yummy. juice wise try different juices I suggest more popular ones but even the more popular ones people will dislike as I bought one by five pawns called gambit which has great reviews but I didn't find it that great definetly worth the price but not for me.

I've only bought from myvaporstore.com $75+ free shipping and I live in Hawaii so shipping fee's typically range from $20-40 came within maybe 3-4 days only this forum has a bunch of websites that I think is partnered with the forum idk you might want to try one of those ones myvaporstore.com is part of that list so i'd assume that list is reliable I also find a lot of online stores do not carry everything so look for a site that fits your budget/needs and roll with it. their were cheaper stores but the shipping was just a bonus for me as well as juice selection the cheaper site I was looking at had very little juice selection

So many variables to consider. I was a 3 pad smoker. Way back when I started vaping on a cig-sized starter kit (and later a larger cheap clearomizer kit), I needed 18-24mg. I started to cut back after 3 months or so, but needed the higher nic at the beginning.

In today's world of subohm smoke machines, that 24mg would probably knock me on my ..... After 3+ years, I vape 5mg.

I would also suggest a variety of flavors, and more importantly, a variety of strengths. Keep some 0mg liquid to cut back anything higher.

@jacob bonilla, my experience mimics yours in that I initially found the throat hit from vaping to be harsher and stronger than that from an analog and it sort of turned me off from vaping but I stuck to it and just took shallower draws. I found that when I tested new flavors at my local vape shop Vaperite that I didn't have that problem and was able to take long, cool draws. Their juice sampling setups run regulated mods with Kanger subtanks with 1.2ohm coils @ around 3.8V and 12W.

@Vape Ross Vape, I've read many times here to not give up and to try different/better setups before giving up on vaping, I'm starting to see the wisdom in that. My suggestion would be a decent regulated mod with good tanks that take the replaceable coils(so many of both and many are relatively inexpensive), starting with the higher resistance coil and a lower power input from the mod, check the forum sponsors and vendors for a good source. As far as nicotine content in an e-liquid my suggestion would be to start low, if not at zero, this is my experience and is based on how and why I smoked. I typically work long days 13-15hrs, 3 days a week. During work I never once crave an analog, it's the ride home that gets me, after a meal(away from work) or when just bored in general. I came to a realization that mine is not an addiction to nicotine but rather an oral fixation and a pastime. Lastly, don't give up, figure out why you were smoking in the first place and how you want to vape by experimenting, a local vape shop can be an indespisible asset if you have one.

My advice... find a good Vape store that keeps demo models in hand. My local B&M guys make a habit of passing a new mod around between them, and will let customers check it out a little as well. Stores like that are invaluable for learning what you like in vaping gear early on, and have helped me out tremendously.

Another thing, if you're a tinkerer, either spend lightly early on, or make sure you get as much as you can for your money when you spend. You'll likely move up in gear fairly quick because of the tendency to learn fast from puttering around with your gear so much and feeling like you've wasted money won't bring happy thoughts. If you're electrically or electronically inclined, go ahead and invest in a box mod... you'll be more satisfied in the long run and that will pay dividends of it's own in trying to quit cigs.

Finally, how to transition from cigs to vaping varies greatly from person to person. I was a pack a day smoker myself. I weaned myself slowly, as I felt comfortable dropping cigs and replacing it with pulls on my mod. I set clear goals when I reduced my cig consumption, and held fast to them. If I dropped my count by a quarter pack, I made VERY sure I stayed there, and hit the vape extra if I needed help. Bottom line, find a routine that works for you, and keeps you nice and chill while you switch.

I spent about $190 a month on cigs. I had no problem spending that to start vaping. I and many others, will recommend having back-ups/spares. I always had a spare everything in the car. I was never far from that.

I started a touch higher in nic. I can vape any nic level, it is just a matter of how often I take draws. If the nic content is to high, I vape rarely. If it is to weak, I take the whole thing to my mouth. At first, since my taste buds were damaged from smoking, I just vaped by urge. Get an urge, take 4 draws. I wanted to vape about once an hour.

During the first few days I did not care about anything vaping related other than getting the nic that I was used to. I researched and bought my gear. Loaded my tank and smoked a cig before bed. The next morning, I only vaped.

Once I knew that I could get my nic from a vaporizer, smoking was gone. Took me about 3 hours. I just vaped when I had the urge and thenit was about 4 draws. Never smoked again.

I can taste now. Its the evening and I am vaping Golden Apple Pie. I vape at 3mg nic andsometimes forget to vape since it is so low. But, at 8:30pm, Golden ApplePie is okay.

Life is good.

I was a 2 PAD smoker too, and I started off on 12mg nic in a garbage CE4 clearomizer. I found it to be uncomfortably peppery and harsh, and quickly dropped down to 6.

Amount of cigarettes you used to smoke isn't a very good indicator of what nicotine level you should start off on. It'll take some trial and error, and vaping juice with too much nicotine in it is just uncomfortable whether you've never smoked or you smoke 3 packs a day.
