How I came to vape

Started cigarettes right out of High School back in 2000 & stepped up to a pack/day (on/off) in 2004. Around late '06 the idea of quitting was forming but by late '09 is when my body started sending me signals that quitting needed to be ratcheted up the priority scale. I spent 2010 waking up to hacking out my throat, the smoker's cough was definately there most of the time, and with the introduction of FSC cigs I found I had to scrub my index/middle fingers at least twice daily.

Over the past 3 months more and more of my friends were having moderate-to-complete success on the njoy, which I passed up numerous times standing in line at 7-11. I was interested, but one day the news section on my HTC phone had an e-cig report, which I read while standing outside in 12-degree weather while smoking and hacking up yellow stuff. I realized there were alot of options, so I did my research over the course of the day. Nearly 'pulled the trigger' on both Blu and Greensmoke, but by the end of the day some YT reviews led me to V4L which I decided would be the best fit for me and bought the full auto kit.

The kit arrived in my mailbox whilst I was driving home from another bust of a job interview--I had made a 60-mile roundtrip only to find out yet again someone was lying about wanting to train college grads, when really they wanted to stick you out to 'sell, sell, sell' for commission-only. As you can imagine I tore through a good 5 Marlboro 27's on the drive home.

Nonetheless, having discovered the kit in the mail I set about charging the two batts and plugged in my PT with 555. Yep, not bad at all.

Well it's been close to two weeks now and I only touched an Analog Friday night, having been 1.5 weeks I was curious. It was pathetic, squishy & light in the hand. I took one drag and tasted mild menthol for a millisecond, followed by what tasted like a mix of wax, household cleaner, grime scraped off the rear axle of a NYC taxicab, and a bit of tobacco. Needless to say I immediately pulled out the VK and drew a few puffs of delicious 'Red Energy' :vapor:

Now one friend of mine just ordered his own VK kit, and another that was disappointed by an old 3-piece e-cig really likes the 808, even the smell of the Sour Green Apple clouds before they dissapate.

So there's where I'm at. Oh, and occaisionally I go to scrub my fingers clean, only to remember they aren't yellow anymore. :p

Great story...and welcome! I myself have been smoking analogs since highschool and just this year have tried an e-cig and I love it! Ive been virtualy analog free for almost 2 months, only having an analog when my battery ran out (Like 2-3 per day) :/ I have recently bought a second charger and have been completely analog free for 1 week! I also notice now how awful analogs taste, tastes almost like burning trash >.< I wish you more sucess and good health! =)

Welcome! I've only been around here about a month. I started with an 808 and still like it except for the short battery life. The sad thing is the longer I vape the more important long battery life and large juice capacity has become. I use an ego tank now, but that has it's own 'issues' so lately I've been alternating between that and using clearomizers on the ego battery..but I'm still searching for the 'perfect' vaping setup.

If you like the KR808d-1 but you want a larger battery life, you may want to look at the Pigcig. :)

PigCig D1 Starter Kit

This is kr808d-1 users version to the eGo. AFAIK, it is only offered from this one vendor.

As far as the batt life goes, these supposedly 'updated' VK's last long enough for me for now alternating two and having the PCC. I went ahead and ordered a manual battery too so I'll have 3 + the PT. Hopefully soon after I get it I'll have a chance to see how the assortment holds up over an extended period away from any power source (better weather essentially, can't believe they're calling for at least 3 inches of snow tonight after 70 degree weather)

Actually, the biggest problem I'm having is determining cartomizer life. I'm definately reaching the flavor loss/burnt taste before I'm truly out of juice in the carto, but I'd imagine there's probably about ~30 puffs left when I wind up tossing the cart out.

I'll get to filling at some point I'm sure, but for now I'm happy treating the cart as prefilled & consumable/disposable. I'm still saving $ and should break even early next month.

For me, I can tell when the cartomizer is getting low because the flavor drops off just a bit, after that you'll start getting the dry flavor... by that point they are starting to burn already, you could probably still use it for a bit anyway if you aren't worried about inhaling the burned filler but should you choose to refill them one day the burned ones will be trash already and taste gross if you rewet them.

I don't know if they make xl cartos for the kr808d-1, but it would be worth inquiring. I used to use about 3-4 new ones per day (the pre-filled 510 ones) and I used to smoke about 15 or so cigarettes per day in my old life, so if that gives you any gauge to measure your usage by I don't know.

Oh, if I were to vape 1 cart exclusively until I reached my personal 'toss point', I'd be using up 1 cart (I'm guessing) every 1 1/4 day. I should actually open up a new one in the morning and use nothing else to see how long it goes, I could really be able to calculate alot of info from that. But then, carts vary (seems like the 36mg carts last the longest), and I wonder if constant swapping helps the carts run cooler overall. I tend to swap when I feel the cart essentially heat-soak and not cool down as quick.

Yup, they sure do - just one example (and I'm sure there are others):

The jumbo cartos I linked above are a good bit cooler and having the atty further from your lips helps too. I've started using a derlin drip tip just for this reason and it works great.
