The first time I heard about vaping was from a distant friend. I was at the time I heavy smoker, and I knew I would be dead soon if I didn't quit. I had previously tried all conventional methods of quitting (and I mean ALL!) over the years and nothing seemed to last longer than a year.
He said "Have you seen those electronic cigarettes"
I immediately thought "What a gimmick", I really just thought of e-cigs as a cheap tv product out of China, and I wasn't really willing to invest any money in it. At the time I had serious circulation issues brought on by smoking. I would often get pins and needles in arms and legs, or lose feeling in my arm for no reason. Every morning I would wake up coughing my lungs out, and would vomit a few times a week from this. Perhaps the worst thing was waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air feeling like I was going to die. Sometimes I just didn't want to go to sleep because the fear was that bad. My wife in the meantime threatening divorce, completely disgusted by my smoking addiction.
This carried on for 4 months, until one day I took the plunge, and got my first e-cig.
STILL NO CLUE ABOUT ECF AND vaping!!!
I decided on a 510, which turned out to be a cheap knock off. As you might have guessed my first juice was Dekang.
When the goods arrived, I really had no idea what to expect. I really thought a cartridge (yes cartridge!) would be equivalent to a full pack of smokes. I had my first vape, and from that point on didn't touch another cigarette for about 2 months. It didn't take me long to realize that cartridges were an epic failure, and I started Googling for some new ideas.
My original fake joye 510 batteries died within 2 months. This was back in the days when the modding cartos with Lipton tea bags was the rage, before VV devices, and Ego was making a name around town. I joined ECF and studied the advice religiously and got to know just about everything about vaping.
When my 510 finally died, I smoked for the 2 days I was without a PV - Bad me!!! But I have to say even after 2 months of vaping my circulation had improved and I was no longer waking up feeling like dying.
I then upgraded to an Ego. Made some goofy youtube vids, and got right back into vaping. This carried on for months.
Then came the experimentation - from Atties, to cartos, back to dripping, so it goes. Nothing seemed to be the sweet spot. My pocket during this time was taking strain - things were expensive and at the time a lot of gimmick products / prototypes on the scene.
In retrospect my first Provape wasn't that epic a PV, but it did look very sleek. Even though it is old now, it is still in perfect condition, but I don't vape it at all.
Why would I when I have a Provari. 3 things have significantly improved my vaping experience, 1 of which is the Provari. I'm actually on my 2nd one right now, and it's going strong.
The next thing to impact hugely on my vaping was - JUICE! Vaping the right juice is essential. For a long time I vaped Todds organics, but now I've found a UK supplier closer to home.
Prior to this I went DIY. That is a whole chapter in itself, but in my experience the guys making the best juice know something I don't. I tried a lot of DIY experiments, spent a lot on flavors, and even went full organic. The best juice I could produce would score about 7/10. Eventually I just had enough of it, and so decided to buy premade.
The last thing that changed my vaping was dual coil cartomizers. I love these things.
Since trying them, I no longer use atomizers, they're just that awesome, except the leaks. Smokymisers are amazing too, but don't last long. I can get about a day from 1 at best flavor, after that they're burnt, and you can't clean em easily.
If I look back in retro, vaping has been life changing. There have been times when the technical logistics of vaping has proved to much, and I've gone back to smoking once while on holiday in France. When I came home I was once again seriously addicted to smoking, but after I got new stock, within 1 week I was off smokes again.
I've been extremely frustrated at times with atty / carto technology, and at times I felt like people were too generous with good reviews about certain products.
In the end I don't know if I'll stop vaping anytime soon. I know my days of smoking are over, and I've also seen more vapers in the wild where I live. People are catching on, but it's taking time.
I've noticed some smokers try vaping and give up too easily. Vaping takes effort at first, but no matter what it's great beating the habit.
Closing thoughts : I'm not entirely sure vaping long term is good health wise. I would say my main concern is in the flavoring, but yeah I know myself, without vaping I'll be back to smoking quick, like so many smokers who quit.
I also actually enjoy vaping. It's become a hobby and a past time. I also look forward to what the future holds for vaping.
Thanks for being a great community - speak to you later!
