Hello, I'm just wondering if 100% pure ethanol (200 proof - absolute, anhydrous) would be a good solvent to clean out my atty's. I hear that people use grain alcohol approaching 190 proof, but I'm wondering if the full potency of the chemical might have adverse affects.

I found a pint bottle of it last night, was thinking of drinking it (free alcohol :p mixed, I'm not that insane) until I saw at the bottom it was denatured. I find it hard to believe that something can be pure, 200 proof and denatured at the same time though...

Basically, this is safe to use as a cleaner, right?

You could use it to clean the attys but it will have to be flushed out real well before using the atty. I used rubbing alcohol at first and it worked just fine. If you use a drinkable form of alcohol you wont have to go through any flushing and drying cycle, you can just blow it out real good and reprime and start using it.

What is the best place to get 190 proof on these nets?

I have searched, to no avail. I went to the liquor store and they only had 75%/150proof.

I do mix it in a drink when the hops and barley run dry here and there, but only 1/2 shot to like 8oz juice. This is "MOSTLY" for cleaning attyZ.

150 proof Everclear is fine for cleaning atty's. That's all I can get here in CA and it works great. It dries/evaporates quickly, and doesn't leave any residue, so i don't have to rinse anything after soaking or cleaning.

Denatured alcohol will cause blindness, then death if you drink it. (It has methanol in it) I'd stear clear of using it, but flush real well with water if you do.

I was wondering if acetone would work well, it sure removes fingernail polish good. I may have to try it with an atty that I was going to toss, due to burnt taste and low vapor.

It was always my understanding that alcohol cannot be completely pure- it bonds to water at a minimum rate of 5%, even to the point of pulling water out of the air until it reaches that level in order to stabilize itself. 95% alcohol means 190 proof at the highest.

The way around that was to distill the alcohol with a small amount of other impurities which didn't require nearly the same content that water does, but are highly toxic to human beings.

A chemistry teacher of mine once remarked that his college days included swiping pure alcohol from his lab for "party punch", always ensuring that it had the required paper tax seal across the cap. If it did not have the tax seal, it meant that it was not taxable because the alcohol was not fit for consumption in the first place.

100% alcohol is illegal here (Ireland) work that one out the best i can get is 40% 80 proof. id use isopropale and was it out well. denatured alcohol Meths is not just 10% methanol 90% ethyl as stated many place's on the net thats lab grade. If bought in a chemists it contains about 1% crude mix of chemicals naphtha benzine and a few more this is to prevent people distilling it into ethyl these are really nasty chemicals and suspected carcinogens basicly lab grade makes you sick chemist grade can kill. If you can get good putini (moonshine) it should be ok I still would not smoke it.

well basicly your right you simply cant get it as 100% will suck moisture from the air till it 95 or basicly draw water while distilling but you can make it by making the water in the 95 bond to somthing else

I use Everclear 95% (190 Proof) grain alcohol to clean my attys. I soak them for about an hour, drain them, dry off the exterior and blow them out. They dry in about 5 minutes.

I add one drop Everclear to every 1ml of DIY juice mixed to help it flow out of the cart.

I also dissolve menthol crystals in it. Everclear is very handy stuff.

I use denatured all day long to clean the guts of cell phones.

It is NASTY stuff....I had a glimmer of a thought about trying it once for about 2 seconds and then was gone. Not a chance in hell would I use it.

I can say even a pin head drop of that crap is woefully painful in the eye.
