The reason NETs are so gunky and what I do to alleviate the problem

After the 12 hour hot extraction I usually let mine cold soak/steep for 4 weeks. I have a lot of well aged extracts on-hand so I'm in no hurry. If I were in a hurry, I'd go ahead and freeze filter some right now just to get things started.
I'm doing a experiment with one of the tobaccos. I'm going to see what happens if I cook it longer. I'm going to cook it 72 hours at 155° then let it steep for 2 weeks.
Boscovlle let us know how it turns out. Str8vision I am going to give my first batch 2 weeks and let the second go for 4 weeks.At least when this is done I will have enough on hand to let all my other batches sit for a month.
I actually just took it out of the cooker, I let it cook for 5 days straight. I put it in the freezer to reduce the gunk. Before placing it in the freezer I opened it and this stuff STRONG. The aroma is very intense, honestly it's more intense than the one I let extract for 6 weeks. I did a Ethanol extract for 1 week then cooked for 5 days.

I usually let it steep 2 weeks. I like the cherry blends and after 2 weeks of steeping the flavor doesn't improve much after that. I will keep you posted on my recent batch.

I just took my 8 extracts out of the freezer and filter all of them with a coffee filter.I let them warm back to room temp and put them in front of a fan for 5 hours.I lost a little more the 1/2 of what I started with.Is that about right for it to evaporate that much? I still smell just a little bit of alcohol but scared to leave it front of the fan longer do to I might not have much left.I only did 4 oz jars as I had 8 different tobaccos to try.They still were a little cloudy at the top and a line around the jar after most of it evaporated.I already ran through a 1 micron filter and I may have 4 to 6 mills left total after 4 oz to start with.Does this sound about right.Thanks for any help.Have a great afternoon and weekend
I usually do about 5oz of tobacco in 750ml of Ethanol. I evaporate it down to 30ml of concentrate. I'm left with a thick dark concentrate with no Ethanol smell but in the past I've had a little Ethanol smell and it vaped fine. I filter to 1 micron before I evaporate my concentrate. It's easier to filter before you evaporate because after evaporation the concentrate is thick and you lose alot during filtration.

I normally reduce extract by around 70%. Starting with 4 ounces of extract, after a 70% reduction you should end up with around 1 ounce (30ml) of condensed extract.
Mine turned out to be a dark tan.I cooked in crock pot 12 hours and let set 2 weeks and froze for 3 days at -10.I did loose a lot by filtering after it evaporated.I am going to get larger mason jars tomorrow.What do you think if I combine the 4 oz I have made in another batch to a larger jar with new tobacco and PGA and put in crock pot another 16 to 24 hours?Thanks for all of the help Boscovlle and Str8vision
I've never "double cooked" extract before so can't really say what the results would be. My best guess is that it would be OK to do so. Or you could just store the 4oz you already have and process a new larger batch separately. When the new batch was finished you could mix/combine it with the 4oz.
This is whats left after 8oz of tobacco and 800ml Ethanol. 60ml of concentrate.

NETs are inherently gunky and hard on coils and wicks .
Much has been said on the subject of cleaning up your NETs.
Little has been said about the hardware .
I found a long while back that dripping was the most suitable method .
After initially disliking Rayon for wicking, I returned to it and now use it nearly all the time .
I just picked up a new RDA which is a mesh RDA from Vandy Vape.
This is ,to me, at least, so far ,a marked improvement in the longevity of good flavour prior to re-wicking.
The juice well is very shallow on this but I could vape a very gunky NET all evening without the need to re-wick.
I also find I can switch between flavours on the same wick.
Today I'm singing its praises.
Tomorrow ..... who knows .

My current favorite atty is the GAIA RDTA by Cthulhu MOD, it has a 2ml capacity. RDTAs are basically just RDAs with an extra deep juice well. The Gaia came with a bottom feeding pin included in the kit so it can be easily converted and used on a squonk mod as well. When used on a squonk mod it becomes a dripper with 9mls of juice on board. A flavor chaser, I like the fully saturated flavor only dripper's can provide but never enjoyed "dripping". With RDTAs dripping isn't required.
I have a DNA squonk mod (Lost Vape Therion) but actually like my little $28 Pico 25 better. When used on a Pico the Gaia is a 2ml RDTA, I fill it 5 times a day on average. When used on the Therion the Gaia has 9mls of juice available so I can go just about all day without needing to refill it. Once I've depleted the Gaia's 2ml "tank" I just squonk to refill it which takes about 2 seconds, very convenient.
I inhale DTL and build 0.45 ohm dual coils that are fired @ 35 - 40 watts. I've tried different types of wire and various coil configurations but prefer 26ga Kanthal A-1 fused micro-coils wicked with organic Japanese cotton. I've read where others have said spaced coils are best for vaping NETs but that hasn't been my experience at all, not by a long shot. So far, for me, fused micro coils have provided the best performance and flavor with NETs.
I've tried many different types of material for wicking, so far organic Japanese cotton is my favorite for NETs but rayon cellucotton runs a close second. If I vaped synthetic juice, especially fruit flavors (like my better half does), my order of preference would change.
I've never used a mesh atty, but it sounds interesting. I've had my eye on the Vandy Vape Pyro 24 RDTA. I like the innovative, unique build deck and airflow design. No bottom feeding pin in the kit but it has a 4ml juice well. The way the top cap fits on/over the build deck creates a small domed chamber which should be ideal for flavor. Perhaps they'll offer a mesh version soon, if so I'll try it.
I currently go through about 30mls of NET before re-wicking, that's about three days of vaping for me. It depends on the NET though, some are far more gunky than others. NETs made from aromatic tobaccos and/or that have Black Cav in the mix seem to be the hardest on wicks and coils. When I do need to re-wick my coils are still pretty clean, it's the wick that has fouled. The wick seems to collect and become saturated with whatever it is in the NET that doesn't fully vaporize. Same as when vaping synthetics.

The aromatics are definitely more gunky imo. I think I'll try a dripper for my nets, I currently use a RDA.
