Okay, I found a good deal on a Riva and asked the appropriate questions and am satisfied that it would be an outstanding 1st pv. However, I guarantee that if I like this I will want an upscale mod. So, after looking at them for the last day and seeing what everyone has to say I can already tell that I like the Omega from altsmoke.

So, is it dumb to buy a nice pv for your first? I guess my point is, why spend the $ on the Riva if the chances are that I will like this and want a nicer unit. That Riva money would pay for a chunk of an Omega. What do you guys think?

Thanks again.

It's up to you. I honestly can't say that the Riva wouldn't totally satisfy you. I am totally satisfied with a similar e-cig and have no plans to upgrade any time in the near foreseeable future.

You would do well with the riva IMO.

IF you said you were thinking about the 510, I would probably want to talk you into a Riva (or eGo or Tornado).

FWIW: If I was going to upgrade (which I'm not) I would probably go with some sort of juice box mod or something. They have e-cigs out there that you don't have to keep refilling and you can use regular old rechargeable batteries. You just install a small bottle of juice and pop a battery in there and you are good to go all day.

I think the riva is a fine first PV. Remember that electrical devices can and will fail sometimes, so it will be a good back up later when you get a mod. Plus, sometimes it is nice to have something more compact. I carry an eGo as a backup on my key ring. Doesn't weigh to much, and I always have a 3-6hr PV anytime I need one.

Honestly, if you are thinking of changing it out soon anyway, the best coice IMO is the eGo USB passthrough. Two PVs in one. Works GREAT as a 3.7v PT, then disconect the USB cable and you have a 650mAh eGo. If they had them when I got my kit I never would have ordered the kit. Get a mega atty and you are in business for big clouds of fog!

I think that IF everything you say in your OP is fact, then yes, you're right. You should go ahead and carefully research the higher-priced mods and get one. If there is a chance that you may not stick with vaping, etc., then no, don't go that route. I can say, though, that the Riva would still be a good backup unit to have if your main unit fails or if you need something more inconspicuous, etc., so it might not be a total loss. You always need a backup. I use a Buzz 95% of the time, but I do have an eGo and a Riva with a lanyard for short trips out and about or maybe for while doing yard work.

Without backup a pack of smokes seeps from the evil cracks into your pocket quicker than a twenty goes out your wallet in a place called"THIS IS IT ".Really though back up is so important, my personal experience is that most vapors(me) will find something to satify if the mod/510/ego/riva/etc is not working.Good luck.

I was amazed how my Riva was so satisfying...I used it for a few weeks and immediately jumped into the mod frenzy...mostly because I like to collect...and there are some sharp PV's out there...still use my Riva regularly..and all my mods...so if ya wanna mod...go for it... bet you will use em all...it's always up to the user... and have some fun with it... :)

If you got the money burning a hole in your pocket go for it. My advice would be to get the Riva kit since you like that one to get started. That gets you a complete kit with minimally a spare battery and atty. Order some juice samplers to go with it (total 20-30ml) and either rinse/reuse the prefilled carts or get some empty ones. Get a drip tip too to try that out. With a few more bucks get some more spare attys. Two is cutting it close on spares. Then spend a couple weeks getting the hang of vaping. Try some different flavors and nic strengths. You may find you want to go a different direction on mods once you spend a little time with it first hand, not through youtube. You'll end up making a better choice when you do finally start looking at mods.

If you later decide to buy the Omega, you know that's just the battery holder/shell right? Everything else is à la carte. You'd want a battery or three and a charger for that too. And it doesn't look like it comes with any attys or carts. But that's ok, you can use the attys and carts from the Riva on it so it's not like you're wasting money with the first kit.

Just slow down and find out your likes and dislikes first hands before dropping a lot of cash on specialty stuff.

good advice, thanks

Riva is a fine choice, but I will reiterate that the eGo USB batt is AWESOME, and you won't have to wait until new stock arives. Lot's of suppliers have them for under $30. Some w/ free shipping and free juice(for first order) like Goodprophets.
