I build only 1.4 ohm, single strand, spaced, stainless coils for temp control. I use cotton pads for wicking. I roll one end to a sharp point then roll the rest of the cotton as though I was shaping a hand rolled cigarette, taking care not to twist the strands. When liquid flows into the cotton it will uncompress if you didn't twist the fibers together.

I prefer 30 over 28 because I can get the heat I want with about half the watts. There is a bit less vapor. I want that too so I can vape where I want when I want without disturbing others.

I just built a single spaced coil with 30g ss316l and it was tricky getting the rayon into it. I kept the coils fairly “tight” for a spaced one then used my finger nail to hook the one end of the coil as I gently pulled the rayon through. I also rolled it pretty tight like a hand rolled cig but I wasn’t able to get as much wicking in as I normally do but I haven’t had any trouble or flooding so it worked well.

For a smooth low watt higher ohm coil try three lengths of 30g Ni 80 plaited with tension, takes a bit longer than braided to build, 0.1 ohm per wrap on 2.5mm i.d IMAG0016.jpg
