has anyone use the 3aa boxes in the puck? using 2 batts in one box and 2 in the other. the splitting the rest of the components between the boxes. i like the idea of the puck and have lots of rechargeable batts, i just dont care for the size. and would it still be a puck? im not trying to step on anyones toes or anything just wondering.

IMHO it's still a puck. You just moved a battery to the other box. I can't really speak for ThePuck, but I would guess he used the 4x box to simplify the connections. Still 4 batteries in 2 boxes. 3-1 4-0 2-2 still a puck IMO.

InterestingFellow just did a 3xAA NiMH box that is a 3.6 volt version. It is a puck? IDK. I was thinking about a 3.6/4.8 switchable one so if you had a LR atty you could use it.

I put a 4xAAA box inside a 4xAA box. It's a single layered puck:

I've added a button since the pic, no LED.

I wouldn't call it a "Puck" just because you use the NiMH batteries. I mean, its a different box, that carries different ammounts of batts, and different size all together.

I seen another mod the other day that was 3x AA box and a single AA box glued to it holding the components. Was that a "Puck"?
I am really greatful to Puck for the AWESOME step by step! However, there are only so many boxes out there that you can use.. ppl are bound to have the same ideas.

not sure if I worded that well.. lol not trying to ruffle feathers, just my opinion.

If you check the Puck threads there are VV "pucks", bottom feeder "pucks", AAA "pucks", AA "pucks", touch switch "pucks" the spirit of the Puck is a simple to build mod using off the shelf parts available at wally world, rat shack... etc, and cheap parts. Also uses NiMH batterys, cheap and available at the grocery store (no shipping cost, waiting for mailman). Average parts list should run less than $10

I have 3-1 split puck, along with a 3-4-5 battery model, it's vv the easy way, just use a slug battery in place of one or two batteries and you can go from ~3.6v to ~4.8v to ~6.0v, works well if anyone would be worried about battery sag on NiMH.

I do. Very compact and everyone sees it just... WANTS ONE! LOL. I love my OG Puck! Wouldn't have anything else. I also have 2 AA Pucks as well. All work well.
